The smartphone app was a bit slow to connect even on my 64bit 8 core phone, so just be patient.. It worked perfectly after that.. There is also a sample pack of photo paper in the box.
This printer also comes with a collapsible widget for additional on-screen controls.. While I generally do not use such things, they are nice to have.. The XPS document creator/driver will have to be installed last...
This printer also has one other really nice feature... You no longer have to pull out the collection tray where the print comes out.. it will do that for you automatically... It also has an auto power on and off feature you can find under ECO in settings on the device.. You can even set it to automatically withdraw the printing tray when it powers off... so very nice...
Be aware folks.. The cost of such high quality printing is a lot of ink... All multi cartridge printers are like this.. If you are looking for less ink usage, then you need something like the MX line... You will.. however, be ultra-satisfied with the quality of this device... if you don't mind the ink usage.. I certainly don't.
There is so far, only one con.. Premium content download is ONLY.. available if you use genuine canon.. expensive as all blazes ink in this high use printer... I personally care very little for such things and can certainly use my own content acquired from elsewhere.. This is still.. a bit of a drawback and I don't really approve of Canon doing this. Hopefully in future they will see sense and allow us to use the content anyway. It is fortunate the printer came with a full supply of genuine canon ink. Like most printers however, it does not come with a printer cable, so if you want a USB connection instead of Wireless or a LAN type, then be sure to get one.
There you have it folks... This printer is totally worth the money and time to set it up..
Namaste...
So let's get on to the review sorry for the little ramble. Me and my wife we bought a brand new HP printer two weeks prior to me buying this printer and I was not happy with the photo prints the HP did and their app that they have. I consider myself very tech savvy and their app just frustrated me to beyond belief. So I returned it and I purchased this Canon Pixma ts9020. It showed up when I unboxed it they included 100 sheets 4 x 6 glossy photo paper and 50 sheets of full size photo glossy paper. Setting it up took a little bit but not too bad. Unwrapping it took more time then setting it up. But I set it up I'll wirelessly with my Samsung Galaxy Note 8. And the first thing I did was pulled my SD card out of my mirrorless camera and put it in to the printer and the monitor LCD screen of the printer just blew me away on how well the images looked prior to printing. It has a paper tray on the bottom for regular paper and on the top you slide up another tray for photo paper. In inside that Trey has adjustable rails for the size of paper you went to use. So I grabbed the 4 x 6 photo paper they included and I installed it as a direction said. Selected my picture and printed it. Printing wasn't fast but I was shocked when the electronic Trey slid out from underneath the LCD screen and the photo came out onto the tray. I was totally shocked on how amazing the picture look. I've seen many photos from photo shops printing them in from Walmart or CVS or Rite Aid. The quality of the print on this photo was so much better than theirs. I was tickled pink. So I tried the app out with my phone and selected a picture and and I went to the settings and selected all the options for the paper and all that and it was so simple. When I had the HP printer I couldn't even figure out how to scan a picture or anything. The Canon app plain as day to figure it out and once again the photo came out amazing.
I don't know how well made this printer is or how long it will last. If it last 2 years and a couple hundred photo prints I'll be happy. But right now I'm extremely happy with it. Are you order three packs of six inks for $23 here on Amazon. If you go to Walmart or buy all six pack of ink and a one pack deal you will be paying $50. I got 3 packs for $23. That's crazy awesome.
The one thing that did upset me was that my wife uses her Kindle Fire HD 10 inch tablet 7th Gen for reading and all of her internet needs. And the Amazon app store does not have the Canon printer app on it. What the heck Amazon? So after some research I found out how to download the Google Play Store on to her Kindle Fire and now she can use the Canon printer app from her tablet.
I guess they were selling this printer Elsewhere for $60 but I picked it up for $98 and so far I'm very pleased with it. And with all the extra photo paper that would have probably cost me another 25 to $30. So I did not update the firmware because I wanted to see how the printer printed and worked first. I will do so when the printer is acting funny. But until then I'm leaving it as it is. It's a nice sleek small printer that you can tuck away with a great monitor on it with cheap ink and amazing photo printing. What else could you ask for?
UPDATE!
THIS PRINTER PRINTS AWESOME PHOTOS! We just picked up a new Mitsubishi Eclipse cross and I took a picture at my house and I tagged at dealership with it and I was contact by corporate Mitsubishi on how amazing my picture turned up and they wanted me to send them a photo printed. So I did my first 8 by 10 print on the Canon printer and holy cow it looks stunning and sharp as the original photo. To my eye I can't see no pixelation or any flaws so I am very happy with this. I added a couple more pictures to the review
