Got it yesterday and started using it right away on test sightings. The enclosed instructions are clear and easy to read. The scope is ready to go and you can begin using it instantly.
First thing I was impressed with was the nice size and looks of the scope.
The coatings on the body and the rubber protective coatings are very nice.
The rubber ocular relief for glasses or without glasses is an excellent addition.
Also the pull forward sunshade is an excellent feature when the sun is very bright and shades the lens well if you are spotting something in the direction of the suns rays.
The tripod is sturdy and the powder coating on it is very durable.
The size of this scope makes it very easy to carry.
Will fit into my hunting back pack very easily and it only weighs 2.5 pounds.
The clarity of the optics were better than I hoped for in a scope for this price.
Very clear at full magnification. Plus, this scope can focus clearly on objects that are close to you. Some higher priced scopes cannot do that.
I take pictures thru it with the optional phone mount.
Again, I was very impressed.
I will use this scope for sighting in rifles, hunting, wildlife pictures, and even close up pics of my 10 grandkids in school programs and videos too. When all the other parents arrive 3 hours early to get a front tow seat. I can stand at the back of the room and get great pics!
All in all, you cannot beat this scope for its size, optic clarity, ruggedness, and operation for this price! An excellent buy!
I am very happy with my Roxant Blackbird Compact Spotting scope! You will be too!
I bought the Blackbird Scope to use when I am hunting. I am in Utah and hunt mule deer and elk, mostly in wide open country at high elevation. I've always carried binoculars, but I have been wanting to do more long distance glassing. So this review will cater more to hunters than to birders.
I absolutely love the smaller size of the Blackbird scope. Many years ago I bought a big, clunky spotting scope of a well known brand. I took it on a few hunting trips, but I only used it two or three times. It was long, heavy, blurry, and worthless at higher magnification powers. Because of that, I stopped taking it at all. It just wasn't worth the effort. In contrast, the Blackbird is wonderfully smaller, lighter, CLEARER, and has a great image through all magnification ranges. I also love how it easily fits into my pack without straining the pockets and doesn't weigh me down. Despite the light weight, it feels strong, sturdy, and well made.
I like how the the rubber casing provides better gripping ability. It also adds to the sturdy feel. I really like the large focus ring, and how it is not part of the eye piece. Both the magnification adjuster ring and the focus ring are smooth, and not too loose or too tight. It is easy to adjust to a fine focus. I also appreciate the well fitting lens covers that came with it.
The Blackbird definitely feels like a quality piece of equipment, especially for the price. My first impression was, "Wow! I didn't expect anything nearly this nice." The carrying case is a nice touch and improves the whole package.
I don't understand the reviews I read that complained about the tripod. For what it is, a table-top tripod, it works fantastic. I like that it is made of metal, not plastic. Some reviews said the tripod was made of flimsy aluminum. Well, not the tripod I got. The legs on mine are made of steel, and when it is folded out it is very stable, with a little heft that adds to the steadiness. I used the tripod at the shooting range while sighting in my rifles, and it worked fantastic. I don't see myself using it out on the mountain while hunting (I bought a separate tripod for that), but I didn't buy a tripod, I bought a spotting scope. So as far as I'm concerned, the tripod that came with the scope is just a very nice bonus.
There is no doubt that this scope would be great in any situation where you want to get 'up close', without actually getting close. When I used it at the shooting range, I could easily see .243 bullet holes in plain paper targets at 100 yards. The image was much, much better than my old spotting scope. I have no doubt that it would also work out to longer distances.
The Blackbird scope would delight any hunter/shooter as a gift. No doubt. And it won't break the bank.
It was super easy to figure out. I didn't even look at the instructions. Of course this wasn't my first exposure to optics, but the Blackbird is very simple to use. Its simplicity is one of the best things about it.
When I first got it in my hands (I bought online), and was able to really see what I had purchased, I was extremely pleased. The more I fiddled with it, the happier I got. For you hunters out there, you need to know that the Blackbird is not a Ziess or a Swarovski. But, for what you pay for it, it is an extremely good value. Will you be able to see mosquitoes on a bull elk's antlers at 1500 yards? No. But, you'll easily see how big the guy is and how many points he has on his head gear. In my experience and in all my research, the other scopes that cost three or four times as much are only half as good. I think the Blackbird is an excellent value.
One of the best things about the Blackbird spotting scope is that the image stays good through the whole magnification range of 15x to 36x. Go read the reviews of more expensive scopes, with their higher magnification ranges, and you will notice the consistent trend that, unless you are spending big money, the image quality deteriorates so quickly at higher magnification that they become useless halfway up the power range. That was certainly true of my old spotting scope. So instead of pretending to have 60x, the Blackbird's realistic top magnification of 36x is actually useful. The image does dim a little bit at higher powers, but for only having a 50mm objective lens it does really good. Another big win for the Blackbird is that by limiting the max power to only 36x, it has a reduced size, less weight, a lower cost, and just feels less bulky. I have been seriously impressed with all aspects of this scope. There is a mountain top about a mile and a half from my front porch. On top of that mountain, someone put up a normal size American flag. You can barely even see the flag with the naked eye. If you didn't already know it was there, you would miss it completely. I put my Blackbird on the taller tripod I bought, and zeroed in on that flag. On 15x magnification, I could easily see that there was a flag up there. On 36x, I could see the individual red and white stripes waving in the breeze. A mile and a half! I knew right then that I made a great choice. I couldn't be happier and am looking forward to using my scope in the high country.
It feels good - lightweight but solid and good quality. I found the focus ring smooth and easy with no unexpected play. Zoom control was also fine. You do have to refocus just a little after zooming.
I'm very happy with it at the price; I am not aware of anything comparable. I haven’t done a side-by-side with a high-end scope and expect I would then see it is not quite as bright/sharp, but it does what I wanted – lets me see a bird up closer so I can try to ID a bird that’s too far away with my binoculars. And it's light enough I won't decide to leave it at home because I don't want to lug it around when hiking.
Oh - the answer I got from Roxant about waterproofness is what some others have reported. "Water resistant, but don't dunk it under water." They have no IPX rating. I expect that means it should be fine outdoors here in the Pacific Northwest in our frequent drizzle but I don't have actual experience over time for that.

Je vais arrêter de commander sur Amazon car je suis à chaque fois déçu.
I am a birder/nerd and I currently have three pairs of binoculars, two spotting scopes, and three monoculars. This Blackbird is rapidly rising to the top of my 'most used' list. It checks all the boxes: light weight, sharp, bright, and quick focusing (without being annoyingly twitchy).
One thing I especially like (and am really impressed with) is the almost complete lack of chromatic aberration on the Blackbird. When I first received it I sighted it on a brick chimney which was silhouetted against a bright sky. The edges of the bricks were sharp and clear and totally lacked the weird colour fringing you see in many cheap (and not so cheap, sadly) optics out there -- especially cheap camera lenses.
It is rugged in build and yet lightweight. The focussing action is nice and smooth without having the twitchy jump that you sometimes get. The build quality just seems to be of much higher quality than I've seen with other brands. I think the quality control might be higher.
Don't be put off by the low price: this is a real scope. One of the comments on Amazon said 'buy a real spotting scope' but this IS a real spotting scope, just at a great price. Why on earth spend $1000+ for a scope? If you can seriously justify that then you wouldn't be bothering to read this review anyway, I think.
Unusually for something so inexpensive, the end of the zoom range is really quite good. I was on a mountain plain today and I could see details from a farm that Google maps told me was 18KM away. That's impressive. It's not a spy satellite but still...
Overall I would buy this again without hesitation, even at a higher cost than it was. I will recommend this to all my fellow birder/nerds as a really great scope for an incredible price.

But, thinking about a device that is more compact than binoculars, with a greater magnification, I started researching monoculars and telescopes.
The one that stood out for quality and portability, with the flexibility of zoom magnification, was the Blackbird
Indeed, reviewers on YouTube sang its praises. As did Amazon (my shop of choice)
So, I ordered it!
Upon arrival it was securely and professionally boxed.
I excitedly opened the box. Wow, looked great!
The scope, tripod, carry bag, cleaning cloth and instructions were neatly stashed.
I took out the scope. It was immediately apparent I had bought a very professionally made item of optical equipment.
A manageable size too!
The lens caps were held in place to prevent loss. A great idea.
The zoom and focus rings very easy to operate. The eyepiece was easy to move in and out too!
The tripod was of metal construction and very well made. Sturdy and strong!
I set it up and trained it on a distant building. Superb. The clarity of image was first class!
I tried it on the moon as well. The detail at maximum magnification was awesome!
My intended use is astronomical and bird watching.
The instructions were logical and literate.
All said and done, the Blackbird is truly excellent!
And great value for money!
Well doneI
