Product Description
Room to room, house to house or home to work, LG’s portable air conditioner is the ideal climate-control solution for when you’re on the go. With a sleek contemporary design, this free-standing portable unit blends in with any room decor. Our auto-swing air vent technology makes sure you enjoy every bit of cool air by circulating the cool air more efficiently so no hot spot will be left untouched. The auto evaporation system allows for continuous use and with the programmable 24-hour on/off timer, you can control the temperature even when you’re not there.
In October 2017, the Department of Energy implemented a new test procedure to determine the BTU rating of portable air conditioners. The procedural change has adjusted the amount of BTUs allowed to be claimed downward by as much as 50%. There have been no internal changes to these units, and the functionality remains the same. Please refer to room size guidelines to find the portable air conditioner that best meets your needs.Dry Air Flow (CFM):220

Easy window inset, in my SRO-type, small place here in California. My room would reach 78-80 degrees regularly with all the tech running in here. My PC and video card kick out a lot of heat - jokingly it is rather convenient during cold, winter months. During Indian Summer, I have to shut it all down to avoid damage.
Since installing the LG 8,000 BTU portable - I can easily remove it and put it away during the cold months, and setup quickly during the hot months. It can be kind of loud during full-power operation, so I usually set it on Low Fan setting. Perfect for my size room, cools down quickly and set for 73 degrees when I'm going to sleep at night - as goes into a cycle where the compressor to air conditioner will turn off and just slow fan setting will kick in. Love it, sleep like a baby with the fan white-noise.
I don't know if it my imagination but the air seems filtered and cleaner than before - removes a lot of dust and odors too.
Convenient, compact, affordable, and easy to use. I am very pleased with this purchase. No 103 degree suffering for me, I'll be chilling at 68 degrees with a cold beer.
Drawbacks (which are minimal and almost not worth mentioning):
Internal water tank (though it may be my fault) filled up pretty quickly the first night I had it though it was alot more humid than normal. The tank was full after about 4-6 hours. Had to drag the whole unit upstairs into the backyard to drain it, THOUGH I didn't have the room door closed and it drew air from upstairs essential trying to cool the whole house. Since then, it's been going for maybe 2 months now and haven't had to empty it since. You can also just hook up a hose and have it drain as it collects. 5/8's inch is the outside diameter of the hose you need (so the instruction manual says). Haven't done that yet and haven't really needed to.
The only (SMALL) thing is that you have to make sure the remote can see the sensor on the unit. Your remote may say it's at 72 but the unit may be at 73, and vice versa. Though you will hear it beep when it actually reads the remote and it will correct the temp to whatever is on the remote.
Also (good/bad... You decide), the fan is always on. Not sure if it's a setting or not, but whether the compressor is on or not, the fan stays on. About as loud as a box fan, maybe a hair quieter. An AC fan in a home just comes on when AC cools. Once again, it may just be a setting.
** Anyway, all the good things:
- This thing blows. :) 2 speeds for the fan.
- It has casters, so it rolls.
- Adjustable fins on top that will automatically adjust from sideways to nearly strait upwards, depending on fan speed.
- Set this thing at 71 or 70 in a 200 sq ft room, and you WILL need a blanket.
- It comes with the collapsible hose (maybe 5-6 feet of it with all the adapters to fit your window.
- You don't need any tools to set it up.
- Remote comes with batteries.
- In case you have to pick it up, there ARE handle indentations on the sides (like a cardboard box would have).
- Unit draws (according to box/manual) i.8 amps. I haven't verified this with my ammeter, but i'm guessing it only draws that much when the compressor starts.
- The 120v plug has a built in GFCI, so need to buy your own.
You can put in a 5/8's OD hose and insert it into one of the two drains to drain automatically. There are 2 drain plugs and when I emptied it, most of the condensation came out of the bottom one. Maybe a tenth of what came out of the bottom came out of the top one.
Well worth the $$!!
Pros:
TEMPERATURE CONTROL: Delivers an even cool and the temperature control is tight. Cooling turns off almost immediately when desired temperature is reached and then just circulates air until further cooling is required. We have a 600 sq. ft. apartment and it does the job on the whole area, though the bedroom it is directly in gets slightly cooler (maybe 3-5 degrees) than the rest of the space
STABILITY: No tipping or rattling vibrations.
INSTALLATION: Easy; clip a few pieces together and you’re off to the races. Just make sure all the drain seals are twisted on tightly.
CONDENSATION: Little to none. The self-evaporating system had nearly zero condensate even after running all season. The seals around the drains are well designed and had no problem with leaks. Not sure how it works, but I imagine it runs the condensate through the hot fan coils or just evaporates overnight when the humidity is less. Either way super convenient to not have to drain it every day.
Drawbacks:
APP: It advertises the Bluetooth/wifi app but it does not work with this model. A significant drawback that I was excited about and even more disappointed with when it didn’t work.
SHORT power cord and even shorted discharge duct limits where you can place this unit without ugly extension cords. Obviously, this unit needs to vent the hot air somewhere, but a longer duct extension would be appreciated for more flexibility in placement.
REMOTE: not back-lit so it’s impossible to see in the dark without turning on the lights.
AIR CIRCULATION: While the fan adequately circulates air throughout the room, you can’t change the direction without physically moving the unit. On a positive note, the fan blows in a general upward direction (45-degree angle) so it doesn’t blast you in the face directly and evenly cools the room down.
NOISE: on low, it sounds like a dishwasher, on high it’s basically a jet engine. But again, it does the job, and I don’t see an equally effective unit being any quieter. I actually enjoy the white noise, but I know it would be off-putting to most people.
WINDOW MOUNT: Obviously the unit needs to be near a window and so it tends to be a bit of a bulky eyesore (though the traditional white color I purchased blends in fine). The adhesive foam for sealing the window is not re-usable and the window is not closable with the foam still on. Some foam left sticky foam residue and was a pain to clean. Even with the foam, there were visible air gaps that no doubt decreased energy efficiency in letting hot air in.
NOTE: Just make sure the outlet/breaker you put this on is sized for this and anything else you put on with it. We had an electric drill plugged into an outlet on the same 20A circuit and it blew the breaker. Even when it is the only thing on the breaker, the draw during the start-up of the condenser causes the lights to dim.
I’ve also seen on here that many people received this with damaged, destroyed, or otherwise mangled packaging. My package was pristine, upright, and delivered to my door in less than a week.

Be warned, it's loud, even setting the fan to low barely makes a difference. I can live with it since it acts as a white noise generator but some maybe have problems sleeping with it on.
As with most things with small wheels, it doesn't move that easily on carpet. Due to the hose length, or should I say shortness, we had no placement options. Hose length is 5' (60") when pulled straight out, but in practice is shorter. LG says you cannot extend or use a longer hose. Where it's placed means the remote doesn't work from the far side of the bed as the sensor is located on the front of the unit where the LG logo is, so it's too low to detect the sensor. The remote is not back-lit so you can't see it in the dark. Top louvers are a good choice. A unit with front louvers means the air flow would be at the level of the mattress.
No question it's somewhat loud on high fan speed and louder with the louver swing on. Keep in mind it's a portable a/c unit, so you can't expect quiet. On low with no swing did not keep us awake. We use the timer to automatically turn it on mid-afternoon. At bedtime we change the fan to low, turn the swing off, and set the timer to turn off after however many hours we want. All the sleep option does is turn the fan to low and set it to turn off in 8 hours so it's pretty much useless. Too bad there's no memory to keep your timer on/off settings rather than have to set it every day.
If this unit keeps functioning the way it should later on in the summer when it'll be way hotter than now, we'll probably get a second one for the other bedroom. My hope is we don't have the same issue the one star reviewer had, that being that it works this summer but when we pull it out next year it's dead....

Here is a tip to help keep the room cooler: Tape spiral duct wrap around the vent hose. Since the duct wrap is an eye sore, I made a shelve cover for the vent hose from cotton fabric and slipped it over the wrapped vent hose.
Amazon.ca sells the Reflectix duct wrap and the Reflective Insulation Tape. ((As for the vent hose sleeve you will have to make one.))
