Product Description

The Botvac D3 Connected is the perfect cleaning companion for apartments and smaller homes. It features LaserSmart mapping and navigation which continuously scans and maps each room. By doing so, Botvac D3 is able to clean quickly and efficiently while providing the most thorough coverage. Plus, the robot’s D-shape design and large core brush tracks down dirt in corners and along walls better than those round robots. And once the robot is done, see where the robot has cleaned on the Neato app.

Love the robovac, but...

Love the robovac, but...
No complaints with the robovac itself, but Neato is cheapo with the battery. You only get a 50% capacity battery with your brand new purchase. It's like buying a printer and only getting a starter cartridge. Except you're paying a premium price for a robovac. When the battery died and I bought the replacement and received it, I was ready to return it because it was different than the original. The original was a flat battery and 2100mah. The replacement was triangular and 4200mah. After finagling it into the robovac and forcing the tab on the inside of the cover to pierce the new battery, it fit. All those years of having the robovac go back to the base and recharge before it could finish cleaning was a waste of time and money because this 4200mah battery should have come with it and gave me a much better experience. No more Neato products for me.

So I went in to this skeptical as any typical person would be who is new to the robot vac scene. I felt that while it might be nice to have something that picks up lightly around the house so I don’t have to get the vacuum out every other day would be wonderful, and all while thinking that I was 100% prepared for all the typical rumors you hear when you see reviews of robot vacuums.
-The thing gets stuck.
-I can’t connect with it on my Wi-Fi.
-What good is this thing if I have to help it every single time I start it!
- I should have bought a Roomba they are known to at least work a little.
I went in to this purchase knowing I was probably going to be turned off by how awful and cheap it was since the price was in the cheap Chinese vacuum range of $219 I thought yep this was a bad impulse buy right off the bat.
TO MY SURPRISE; I feel that this was easily the best thing I have invested in since sliced bread… It hasn’t got stuck once (aside from one time where it ate a sock but that was on me), it has easily managed to clean all 800 square feet of my apartment with no issues and that’s with low pile carpet tile and high shag rugs everywhere. I feel that the app is easily the most basic and useful experience I have could have hoped for in this vacuum. I connected it without issues (must have been fixed in an update since everyone seems to be having a lot of these issues) it starts immediately with a tap of my phone, and cleans systematically which I love and really was the only reason I purchased this one since all others in this price range are random bop the wall for a few hours cleaning style which I hate.
One note that I should definitely add; it came with literally only a charging base and cable, no accessories and not even a physical manual, had to download the online one. Also before you start this bad boy make sure you update it however many times the app says too because I feel the reason my experience has been so great was because the app fixed a lot of known issues that I might have faced with this.
In the end though, her name is Neater and she keeps my apartment cleaner. That’s all I could ask for, and since I had to only pay around 200 for it I admit it was a complete steal because an equivalent Roomba or similar vacuum with intelligent cleaning, mapping to show you what all it got, scheduling for whenever, and gentle navigation or strong navigation (I set mine to gentle), would be easily 3 to 4 times the price I paid so I don’t see you buying a better option than this one and so far it has been a much needed and welcomed addition to the homestead.
FINALLY some issues I found but for the price can’t even come close to hurting this deal. The filter is thin and doesn’t feel like much, it is a weird cotton layer that I’m sure is great for catching dust (which this vacuum picks up like a champion), that could be better but for the price again, I’ll take it with a free one let alone not one at all lol. The lack of a cleaning tool is odd but again I’d say for the price they cut every corner they could without sacrificing on the experience of getting a quality product. Lack of a side brush, now I have never owned a robo vac so this is my first ever and I hear a lot of people like those brushes and after it cleaned a few times I can see why, while this thing will easily keep you from running the big vac for months it won’t perfectly clean the base of your walls, literally out like an inch or so from the wall if there is anything large except for dust then I doubt this vac will pick it up. This may be an issue for some but if I have to pay an additional 200 maybe even 300 more for that little feature I think I will live.
I have run this vacuum a total of one dozen times (12) and so far I had one issue where it ate a sock I accidently left out but it let me know and I rectified the situation in a timely manner. It cleaned up way more than I expected since it managed to get under beds and a few chairs that haven’t been moved in some time, but I love how it always manages to find a little more than I expect every run. If I could I would give this vac a 10 out of 10 stars but sadly amazon gives me only 5 to pick from, so if you’re in the market for a great robo vac experience that is smart and cleans efficiently then this is literally your only bet, I wouldn’t even waste the money on the others.

This is the first review I have ever done after being a Prime member for 6 or 7 years!
Because this little gem has has made me almost as happy as finding out that I have not, in fact, screwed my children up to being beyond the help that even Oprah can provide, I felt the need to share my incredible experience with the world!
When we purchased our house we ripped out the carpet in the lower level and replaced it with dark hard wood floors. The thing they don't tell you about dark wood floors, with light colored pets and children is that you will one day consider burning your house to the ground because there is no way to keep the floors clean and free of pet hair!
Since I love my pets and children and finding them all a new home was not an option after all of these years, I purchased a robotic duster that could help keep up with the areas I couldn't reach: under furniture, tight spaces and some days in plain sight because I was too tired to bend over. The duster has been an awesome addition to our family and worked harder than my ex-husband! The problem was that, unlike my ex-husband, it didn't actually pick anything up; it did leave bundles of ick everywhere, making it easier to clean. We have a central vacuum in our house (also very cool!) so spending too terribly much on a robo vac also wasn't something I could convince my husband of so a-hunting I went!
With Prime day fast approaching, I wondered if I could afford to give myself the gift of laziness? I saw advertisements for Roombas and other, cheaper, off brand devices but knew it would have to be affordable and amazing to avoid housework AND divorce! That's when I found this little gem!
I purchased the Neato D3 because of the super cool, high tech option of "room mapping"!! WHAT?? A robotic vacuum with more common sense than the rest of my household??!
So, I impatiently waited its arrival; the longest 2.5 days of my life, and as soon as I got home from work on delivery day I tried this bad boy out!
I played with Jarvis for a good 2 hours, or so, and announced to my friends that they had all been replaced, all one of her!
This sucker not only cleans without empty promises and begging, it maps the room to create the easiest route to ensure it doesn't miss a spot! Few things are more exciting than getting a notification that it's done cleaning and has a map to prove it!
When the battery gets low it even has the common sense to recharge itself and go back to exact spot it left off to finish the job! Seriously!!
If this thing did dishes or laundry I can say, with confidence, that it would be my favorite kid!

If you're in the market for some help around the house, I HIGHLY recommend this little fella! He does his job, doesn't talk back, and doesn't complain about having leftovers for dinner! Jarvis is, by far, the best investment I have made since my divorce attorney! Get one! You will not regret it!

2 months in we’ve only used it 4 or 5 times and we’re only able to get the Neato to clean most of the floors twice. The promise was to set it up, start it and come back to clean floors. The reality for us has been it takes 10-15 minutes to get the house ready (rearrange furniture, block off problem sections like thick rugs and move chords out of the way) before running it. Once it runs, it tends to get stuck, dust bin fills up quickly and never finds its way back to the base station to recharge which means you need to baby sit it. Many times, once it gets stuck it has to start over which is why we haven’t been able to get it to complete a job more than once.

I love the idea and the app is cool but it hasn’t worked for us. We have found it’s less hassle to take our vacuum cleaner out and clean the floors the way we did pre-Neato. I keep trying to get it to work but am not hopeful. If we haven’t figured it out a month from now we’ll pull the plug. If I could return it I’d do that. If I had a time machine I’d go back to when I made he purchase and not purchase it (although I’d be concerned that would cause an anomaly in the time/space continuum which could lead to any number of catastrophes so maybe I wouldn’t actually do that. It would probably be better to go back and just wager on a sporting event for the amount we spent on Neato which would be less risky).

I’ve watched all the vids and read all the FAQ’s but looks like other customers have had good success so hopefully it’s a user error on our part. SAD!
