This cutting tool looks and feels like something our pioneer forefathers would have used. One whack of the hammer and a plank of wood is reduced to kindling! There are four holes drilled into the base that makes for sturdy mounting on a heavy board or log. Set up this handy device near your fire pit as you will find yourself using it often. Its convenient size will allow for easy transport indoors to protect it from the elements or to take along on a camping trip. This is a fine tool for those who enjoy sitting beside a fire.

I just got this log splitter to use for making kindling for my wood fired pizza oven. So I took it out of the box and was immediately impressed with how heavy and sturdy this tool is. So I carefully set it up and put a 4" diameter log in it. Beat it with a 3lb hammer and the log split right away. This splitter, unlike its competitors, has a sharp blade that is removable for the sharpening it will eventually need. A very nice design feature that will make this tool useful for a long time. I highly recommend and would buy it again. A good value at the price too!

Meaning, it takes a bit of extra work to get it to bite into the wood. Had it come with a v, hollow, or compound chisel edge it would work much better. I would not purchase this again, but instead give one of the other brands with a good reputation a try.

When i pulled this out of the box i was amazed at the quality. There are so many awesome features. I love the fact that I can take the blade off and sharpen it. My other one was a pain to try and sharpen while still in place. It has more angled pieces under the blade to help split the kindling easier. This one has 7 my other one only has 4!!! The base has 4 holes that i used to mount it to a stump in my yard. Its nice to know it won't fall over. You don't wanna be using your hammer when your sub par kindling cracker with feet falls over. The mounting holes, and removable blade was a big part of why i bought this. You will not be disappointed with the craftsmanship in this powerhouse kindling cutter. After this product i will definitely be looking at the other tools powerhouse has to offer!

Making kindling is not easy. I did it wrong with an axe and needed surgery on my hand. This product will make it a lot safer and easier if done correctly. Don't split locust with this. 12" Maple or sassafras is best. Steel blade needed some sharpening when I received it But I am happy with the quality and design. I love the fact I can remove the blade So my 2 young boys don't hurt themselves with it.

Overall first impressions are a little disappointing. Fist off at I noticed the hand sharpened blade lacking attention. I mean when I hand sharpen a blade I check for uniformity and sharpness. The blade is lacking in both areas. I will need to give blade attention. Casting is clean howerever, but for price i would expect a little better. I'll address the blade and see how this works.
