I only buy Danby dehumidifiers because they work well and importantly come with no chemical smell! I have a larger one in the basement and now I’m using this one in my rv. I have to empty the tank often in the rv, but only because it works well and makes a huge difference in summer humidity without needing the AC. It is a little loud, but works well enough it can keep up with adjusting what time it runs.

This is a great tool for my humid house. I do have to empty it (collection bucket is easily removed and emptied with solid handle) every 4-6 hours due to high humidity. There's an option to hook up a hose for constant draining. May try later. User Manual easy to read and I have referred to it a few times until I became familiar with various displays. Always shuts off automatically when the bucket is full - I sleep easy. I recommend this well designed and functional equipment.

Reduced humidity % in 500 sq/ft room by 20% in an afternoon and smart features maintain levels with ease. Water bucket is a bit small considering how fast it pulls moisture from the air, so I'm emptying it 1-2 times per day (in New Orleans), but I'm just thrilled to be pouring that water down the drain instead of letting it seep into my walls.
Noise level is comparable to large-room air filter devices that I own. Not disruptive at all and just enough to provide overnight white noise in the bedroom.

Product is fine, shipping not so much. FedEx left at gate uncovered, no notice...not supposed to leave without being signed for according to my instruction. Will never purchase from this seller again due to shipping policy, FedEX is horrible!

I own 2 Danby dehumidifiers. Two different models. Both have performed without a hitch. I have one in my basement that goes 24/7 for a good 8 months each year. And I don't remember how old it is. It just works.
I have it attached to a small pump that puts the water down the washing machine drain. The other one handles the first floor and I've had that one for a few years now. We manually dump the water. Sometimes we use the water to water the plants on the back deck. Get one you won't be disappointed.

Do not buy danby products. They are poorly designed and have either faulty or poorly placed hygrometers so they end up running constantly.

The system worked great for about a month, but now if the fan/compressor shuts off the humidity sensor quickly climbs to 10-15% above the other two humidity sensors in the room. This means the unit runs almost constantly.

EDIT: One month later, I have finally been sent a replacement. Danby does not answer the phone for customer service, so you need to go through a back-and-forth email exchange that takes weeks. By the time I was given the opportunity to accept a replacement model, they had run out of stock and offered another, unreviewed model. I could not find it sold anywhere except walmart and it had 1 or 2 reviews. After letting it sit 6 hours and turning it on, it does the exact same thing. While it is on and running, it reads the correct humidity level, but the second it turns off it climbs rapidly, quickly reaching the "on" point of 5% above the target humidity and then it turns back on, dropping quickly to the actual humidity level -- which has not changed. This means it will shut off for about 10 min, then run for about 30-60 min, and repeat, regardless of the humidity in the room.

this is our second one. the first one is still working. there are some slight changes to the control panel, other than that it looks identical.
this one seems to pull out more water in less time. I think because it's cleaner in the coils.
it does have a loud fan, and when it kicks in the compressor it shakes for a fraction of a second.
I don't think you can find a better unit for the price point.
our previous brands all had problems with frosting up - even with auto defrost. we have had good luck with the Danby brand so far. if this changes, I will update my review.
btw - I'm only running the new one now. the old one is working but keeping for a back up.

I looked at a lot of dehumidifiers, and was perplexed as to which one to buy. This brand was recommended to me from a friend. After Ira and my basement rug was soaked, but thank God no actual flooding, I use this for days to take some of the moisture out of the basement. It worked great no regrets about buying this one. It's quiet and efficient

Problems Caused by Moisture in the Basement

Moisture in the basement is a common issue that can lead to various structural and health-related problems. Some of the main problems include:
    1. Mold and Mildew Growth – Excess moisture creates a perfect environment for mold and mildew, which can cause unpleasant odors and potential health risks, such as allergies and respiratory issues.
    2. Structural Damage – Persistent moisture can weaken wooden beams, flooring, and drywall, leading to rot and deterioration. It can also cause concrete walls and floors to crack over time.
    3. Pest Infestation – Many pests, such as termites, cockroaches, and rodents, thrive in damp environments, making a moist basement an inviting place for infestations.
    4. Increased Humidity in the Home – A damp basement can raise overall humidity levels in the house, making other areas feel uncomfortable and potentially leading to condensation on windows and walls.
    5. Damage to Stored Items – Many people use basements for storage, but excessive moisture can ruin items like furniture, clothing, books, and electronics by causing warping, rust, or mold growth.

How a Dehumidifier Resolves Basement Moisture Issues

A dehumidifier is an effective solution for controlling basement moisture and preventing these problems. Here’s how it helps:
    1. Removes Excess Moisture – A dehumidifier pulls in moist air, extracts the water, and releases dry air back into the room, reducing humidity levels.
    2. Prevents Mold and Mildew Growth – By maintaining humidity levels below 50%, a dehumidifier makes it difficult for mold and mildew to thrive.
    3. Protects Structural Integrity – Lower humidity reduces the risk of wood rot, drywall damage, and concrete deterioration.
    4. Improves Air Quality – By reducing musty odors and airborne mold spores, a dehumidifier helps create a healthier living environment.
    5. Reduces Pest Problems – Many pests are less likely to invade a dry space, making a basement less hospitable for insects and rodents.
    6. Protects Stored Items – A controlled humidity level prevents damage to stored belongings, keeping them in better condition for longer.
    7. Enhances Comfort and Energy Efficiency – Lower humidity makes the air feel cooler, which can reduce the need for air conditioning and lower energy bills.

For best results, it’s important to choose a dehumidifier with the right capacity for your basement size and ensure proper drainage, whether through a collection tank or a continuous drain system. Regular maintenance, such as cleaning filters and checking for leaks, will keep the dehumidifier working efficiently.

5.0 out of 5 stars Built like a tank

First thing you'll notice is it's quite heavy, but good thing it has castor wheels. Second thing, it is loud even on the low setting. It works quite well though, seeing as it filled the tank in about a week. Not sure how accurate the humidifier readings are, but I left it at the default 40 and it's fine. I tend to only use it when I'm not around because the noise is too much. No regrets, but I think a smaller model would have been more suitable for me.

This unit is QUIET! I can't even hear it running over my stand-up fan. However, there is an electrical noise that is really bothersome. It may not bother the average Joe, but it bugs me a wee bit. Other than that, it's a great unit and sucks up my basement humidity like no one's business!

4.0 out of 5 stars High Quality product, a bit noisy.
Reviewed in Canada on August 20, 2020
It looks cool. It is super easy to move around. It drops the humidity on my 1200sqft basement from 70% to 55% within a couple of hours. From 55% and below seems to need a bit more effort. It is very well built. No cheap thin plastics as most brands use today. The noise from the pump is very low but the fan is noisy. Even on low setting is still way too noisy for a bedroom. I usually leave it in the middle of the basement and gets the job done. I would recommend it, as it looks a quality product if you don't need to place it in a bedroom.
