I owned for 17 years the bread machine that everybody totes as the best the best, you know the one that starts with the letter Z??!! I'm probably the first in history that's going to say I had nothing but problems with it and I had the top of the line one. First of all the bread pan coating peels within 7 to 8 months of consistent use and the paddles do the same oh and let me mention to replace the bread pan it's close to $90 and the paddles well you can guess that price is up there as well. I didn't want to spend after the machine finally went out that kind of money again. I just didn't see the purpose of it, especially I like to take my dough out shape it and work it the way I want, I don't like the crust that bread machines create when baked inside of them. I just had a good feeling about this elite gourmet machine and I thought let me give it a shot and boy am I impressed! I don't know what it is, it brings out such a beautiful tasting and flaky crust and texture, just amazing I can't even explain it! Although, I like to take the dough out and not have it baked inside a bread machine I did bake a few loaves in the elite gourmet and they came out really well. This machine outshines when using just the dough setting. I felt that Z machine that everybody totes is the best over kneaded the dough to the point it fermented it and made it very yeasty and dense tasting and this elite gourmet does not do that! I will say one caveat to this machine is do not overload it, it does its best with smaller amounts of flour in my experience I feel no more than four cups and that's pushing it. For the money I can get six of these for the price of one of those others. LOL I think for me more than having the best the best that the industry puts down your throat is how does it make your bread taste is your bread fluffy and squishy and have that nice creamy taste not yeasty fermented taste then this machine is for you! I use the exact same recipe in both brands of machines and believe it or not both loaves tasted and texture was completely different. I can be very fair here in my review since I owned the other one for 17 years and actually repurchased a new one and was very unhappy and returned it and actually bought a second one of the Elite Gourmet for backup. It's a little noisy compared to the other one I'm talking about, this one is nice and light has suction cups on the bottom so it doesn't jiggle around, it's so easy to set. I'm literally in love with this machine and financially wise I could do any of them and this one won me over! I did get the mint color, so much prettier in person and how cute they put a fork and spoon inside their leaf logo just a little detail that makes it not like any of the others. I've never seen a company put more effort into the packaging the plastic the cardboard so the machine arrives to you in perfect condition, no scratches no dents just a company that really takes its time to put that attention to detail!

Impressed with this bread machine!
This is a real value in bread machines: does 19 functions, 3 crust colors plus "fruit" (preventing burning?), jam, yogurt and dough. And three loaf sizes from 1lb to 2 lb. What more do you need? The recipe book is small that comes with it but...it's fairly complete and you actually can find a recipe book for this particular machine in paperback if you want more recipes.Performance: flawless. I've made a 1lb loaf of regular white and one of raisin bread (I used the sweet bread recipe plus added raisins.) Both came out perfectly baked and the 1 lb loaf is great for one or two people at home.1. 19 settings including basic, quick, whole wheat, rye, French, Gluten Free, Rice, sandwich, cake, jam, yogurt, defrost, cook and dough settings (whole meal, pizza, knead, leaven and mix.)2. It's very light weight. So lifting it on and off the counter is easier than most. There are suction cups to keep the machine steady, however a heavy dough and large dough could shake the machine around. So watch where you put it. I didn't have shaking with a 1 lb, white loaf but I can see that it could happen with heavier batches.3. The controls are very very simple. An LCD screen walks through the menu with push buttons.4. It comes with a recipe book, a measuring cup and a measuring spoon (tsp and tbs) The recipe book instructs you to use those measures exactly to make your batch, and I did that for the 1 lb loaf and it came out absolutely perfectly.5. It comes in two colors, black and retro aqua. I got the aqua. Very cute.6. It is affordable especially for all the functions.If you don't like fishing out the paddle and leaving a scar behind in your loaf, a trick is to remove the paddle from the dough ball before the last rise. The LCD screen shows your progress and the steps, so after the last knock-down you can fish out the dough and pull out the paddle. That way you'll only have a small divot in your loaf on the bottom. Watch a few loaves for when is the optimal time to retrieve the paddle. It means you can't go completely unattended, but you'll get a prettier loaf. I fished out the paddle on my raisin loaf (oil your hands first...) and the loaf was far better looking when sliced.My measuring cup cracked (it's rather thin) so I had to pick up a spare so be careful with it; the plastic wall is thin and somewhat brittle.The recipe book gives proportional recipes for best results, but testing with a breadmachine-specific recipe book can yield good loaves. I actually had to add a bit of water to my dough (used bread flour) and I could see it needed two more Tbs water from the consistency (dough was crumbly and flour left at the bottom of the pan.)A good adjunct to breadmaking at home are bread-specific plastic bags. You can buy these online and they are narrow and long bags that let you store bread on the counter or in the freezer.Summary: this is a budget-friendly machine and yet it has gluten-free setting, which means you can make your own GF bread and save quite a bit at home. If you are celiac, you can reserve the machine for GF free ingredients only and avoid cross-contamination. If you are not worried about GF like me, you can make your own small loaves suitable for one or two.
