This product is step 2 of the brand’s suggested $400, 4 step, 4 product skincare program. The program starts with instant firming serum, followed by the present product for daytime use, then firming night cream for overnight treatment, and finally, firming eye gel cream. The total cost of the 4 recommended products is approximately $400 and therefore worthy of further study before proceeding.
The primary ingredient, by volume, for this product is water. A mind-boggling assortment of more than 50 additional products are listed on the product packaging (picture attached). While many of these products are indeed “natural”, there are also many synthetic man-made materials.
This reviewer, a retired University Professor, immediately went down the insatiable “find out more” rabbit hole to learn, and share, as much as possible about this product before posting this lengthy review. Is this product worth the premium price point required? Please feel free to skip ahead to the closing conclusions if the following text is not important to your purchase decision.
The Caudalie brand has created a strict and sustainable “Cosm-ethics” charter that pledges to exclude parabens, phenoxyethanol, phthalates, mineral oils, sodium laureth sulfate or animal-derived ingredients in their products. None of their products or the ingredients are tested on animals, in accordance with European regulations. The exception would be products sold in China where government regulations require that animal testing is required before approving for consumer use.
The majority of the brand’s skincare ingredients are sourced from grape and vine derivatives. The company founder was born and raised on her family's world-famous Château Lafitte Bordeaux winery. The company donates 1% of total sales to global organization’s dedicated to tree planting activities. They also encourage consumers to refill their products original packaging rather than repeat purchasing that requires new container packaging.
Examining existing research and product claims of Caudalie products initially returned minimal and sketchy results. For example, labelling on the packaging box for this product stated that “98% of respondents saw firmer skin in 3 weeks”. The sample was reported as 21 volunteers taken over 18 days. This reviewer could not find any further, but critically important, information to examine the validity of this claim.
The sample size was extremely small and more typical of a focus group than a valid control group based research study. There was no information provided on the demographics of the sample or whether there was any form of payment or other inducements that could affect participant perceptions toward the product.
Digging ever deeper, this reviewer finally found the needed information at the Harvard Medical School website, and the news is all good! Caudalie has been working closely for more than a decade with Dr David Sinclair, namesake of the Sinclair lab, an anti-aging and genetics research Institute “driven by the belief that humanity can do better and that everyone has the right to the best medical care and maximum lifespan”.
Dr Sinclair has impeccable credentials, with more than 100 published scientific research article credits focusing on activating the body’s defences against aging. The science is obviously far too complex to explain in this review, however the bottom line conclusion is the body's loss of epigenetic information is likely the root cause of aging.
By analogy, if DNA is the digital information on a compact disc, then aging is due to scratches. Aging research focuses on searching for the polish to refurbish and replenish the scratched disk. The research behind formulating the present product under review has been built on the same premise.
Conclusion: The CAUDALIE brand lift facial cashmere cream is presented as an anti-aging daily treatment for maintaining healthy skin. Extensive and lengthy scientific research conducted in partnership with a world renowned medical school tend to support the claims of anti-aging skin improvement capabilities, providing justification support for the premium purchase price point. An overall product score of 5/5 is assigned accordingly.
