A Note from the Author
Welcome to REA’s Firefighter I and II Exams Flashcard Book.
Serving the public as a firefighter is a rewarding career. Firefighters are dedicated, highly trained professionals who risk their lives and personal safety to help others in a time of need. Firefighters are on call 24 hours a day, every day—when disaster strikes, in life-threatening emergencies, and in crisis situations. When firefighters respond to a call, they must be prepared for anything and know how to act quickly and safely.
To become a certified firefighter, you must pass a written exam and a physical test. This book gives you the practice you need to pass the written exam right at your fingertips. REA’s Firefighter I and II Exams Flashcard Book is a useful tool for anyone taking the Firefighter I and/or II Certification Exams.
The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) establishes, through a committee process, the standards for Firefighter I and Firefighter II certification. Every state (and in some instances, every county) determines its own requirements — the state where you plan to be a firefighter will ultimately determine your specific testing process.
REA’s Firefighter I and II Exams Flashcard Book will help you become familiar with the exams and what you must know to pass them. The material is divided into sections that correspond to each chapter in the Essentials of Firefighting manual, considered the resource for aspiring firefighters. The questions reflect the NFPA standards associated with the subject matter.
You can’t become a firefighter without passing the written test, and the only way to know the material is to devote ample time to it and study it thoroughly. REA’s Firefighter I and II Exams Flashcard Book will empower you with the knowledge you need to succeed on the exams.
Firefighters have a great responsibility to the public and must demonstrate knowledge of certain requirements before receiving certification. Being a firefighter is a profession like no other. I wish you the very best on the exam and your career in the fire service!
Good luck!
Jeffrey Lindsey, PhD, PM, EFO, CFO
Fire Chief (retired)

There was a lot of trick questions which I didn't like, for instance a ton of 'all of the above' or 'either A or B or neither A or B'.. It reminds me of EMT adaptive questions where they are designed to trick the tester.
