Product Description
Product Description
12" x 72T Thick Stock Aluminum Metal Blade
Amazon.com
The 12-inch Freud LU89M012 Thick Stock Non-Ferrous Metal Cutting Saw Blade is a heavy-duty blade that delivers a precise finish when cutting aluminum and other non-ferrous materials. Featuring 86 teeth with TiCo high-density carbide tips and Freud's Silver I.C.E. coating, which helps reduce heat buildup and prevent corrosion, this thin-kerf blade is built to stand up to the demands of frequent use and tough applications.
Triple-Chip Tooth Grind for Precise Metal Saw CutsBuilt to make quick, exact work of trimming and reshaping aluminum, copper, or other non-ferrous metals, this blade features teeth with a triple-chip grind. In this configuration, each flat-top tooth is followed by a trapezoidal tooth that's slightly higher. The trapezoidal tooth delivers a precut slot that's narrower than the final kerf, so the flat-top teeth can leave a finish that's clean and true.
Also offering custom designed gullets that minimize chip buildup, this blade is designed for optimal performance when cutting metal walls that are less than 1/4-inch thick. It has a 1-inch arbor and produces a 0.122 kerf.
Freud recommends that you use a liquid lubricant, like WD40, when cutting metals with this blade.
Well-Balanced, Anti-Vibration Design
This Freud blade is precision balanced and pretensioned for truer cuts under heavy loads. It also features laser-cut, anti-vibration slots that reduce chatter for a cleaner finish, longer blade life, and reduced noise while you work. And because the entire blade is laser cut from high-strength steel, you can trust that it will stay stable, flat, and true, even after prolonged use.
High-Density Carbide for Maximum Cutting Performance
This thick-stock saw blade's 86 teeth are finished with tips made from Freud's application-specific TiCo high-density carbide "non-ferrous blend." Formulated to extend tooth life in the face of demanding metalwork applications, this blend is extra impact-resistant--due to including more cobalt than other TiCo blends--and it still offers the mix of improved strength, density, corrosion resistance, and heat resistance that you expect from TiCo.
With teeth that start out sharper and deliver improved edge retention, the blade can go longer between sharpening, and will hold up longer--saving you time and money.
Silver I.C.E. Coating Resists Corrosion and Heat Buildup
This blade is finished with Freud's Silver I.C.E. coating, which resists corrosion for improved performance over time. This unique coating also resists heat buildup, protecting your saw and your work surface and preventing the blade from warping. Its non-stick surface also helps prevent unwanted buildups. All this translates to less drag on the motor of your saw, which means longer tool life and longer blade life.
This industrial saw blade is backed by Freud's limited lifetime warranty.

The quality of the cut was production-level, very much like you get from extrusion vendors.
I also cut a few pieces that were 1/4"x1 3/4" solid aluminum and have no problems.
Overall, I am extremely pleased with the performance so far.
We keep a spray bottle of Starret M1 lubricant or WD40 handy and spray the blade, while running, before each cut. We keep a strong vacuum system running during the cutting operations to help clear chips. Long rips in heavier material get a little hot towards the end. Cut rough and go to tolerance on a second pass. Conversely, small crosscuts in light material can be made to tolerance with only occsional "spritzing" and in a single pass.
We buy one of these blades every two to three years, relegating the old one to rough ripping of hard anodized aluminum plate, which finishes them off pretty darned quick, but they get the job done. Consistent spray lubing before cutting of clean material can produce long lived blades that will pay for themselves many times over. We keep a ready spare in the blade drawer at all times.
We find the quality of this blade to be some of Freud's best work; dead flat discs and no snaggle teeth every time, easy to hold .001 tolerances in crosscuts of .125" thickness, 6061 angle, on a well set up crosscut bed.
This is a safe blade. We have never lost or damaged an individual tooth in production use. The cruelest tasks have been repeated crosscuttings of 2.0" square, 6061 bar and rough ripping of hard anodized, .25 material, the latter a sacrificial effort fit only for a soon to be retired blade. We do not consider resharpening at this shop. Results have never met our standards. Blades are consumables. Their useful life easily justifies their cost.
This blade is available on Amazon Prime, at best prices.
1. Feed the blade -slowly- into the stock. The blade can easily hook multi-contoured pieces and will mangle the frame into a pretzel.
2. Once the blade has been fed all the way down into the saw's slot, release the trigger and allow the blade to come to a full stop before allowing the head of the miter saw to return to the start position. Again, the spinning blade can grab the piece on the way up.
This blade makes a nice finish on aluminum, but is more tedious to use than when cutting wood.
