Customers are mixed about the size of the stovetop kettle. Some mention it's clean, functional, and the right size, with a smaller diameter that works best on small to medium burners. However, others say that it'd be too small for their needs and decor. The diameter of the base is too small, so even on low heat, the flame from the gas range can reach the edge of the kettle. Shipped product was clearly used but that was not disclosed anywhere in the description. The display photo indicated a brand new product. If I had know it was used and the price was lower I might still have bought it. I can't accept this discrepancy and am returning it for a refund.

So it is not the most beautifully designed kettle whose stylish exterior would enliven your kitchen. It also does not open and allow easy cleaning. BUT I have used mine since 1976 and it is still going strong. Never, ever had a problem with it. The whistle can be heard all over the house, so you know when the water is ready. No guess work here. It is light-weight and can be lifted and used with one hand. All of it's wonderful qualities that I took for granted were magnified for me when I recently decided to buy a new kettle. After all, 28 years warrants a new kettle, right?

I bought the Analon, which had no reviews, but looked oh-so-pretty. It is so heavy I need both hands to just lift it, when it is not filled with water! The snazzy squeezable handle that operates the spout barely opens and it is awkward to use. The whistle is almost non-existant, and the water takes forever to boil. It makes the tea preparation process a chore, not a joy.

Having learned my lesson and scouring these pages for reviews of good kettles, I decided to buy this model again. After all, it is the kettle that could perform on all the necessary levels. Tried and true.

This was the tea kettle that I grew up with back in the 50s and 60s. This same design still does the job for us, though we've had a few since then. Not that they really wear out, but one got smashed in a move, another got left with the spout over a gas burner, which melted the whistling lid. Sometimes you just have to replace things. We've tried other kettles, but there is always something we don't like about them. My wife finally said, "I just want another Paul Revere kettle, so that's what we got, and it's been whistling daily for 15 years. The copper bottom heats quickly, the handle is strong and cool, and the cap can be hooked open, for easy filling. Just don't over-fill it, and it will whistle loudly when the water boils. (hooking the cap open will also silence the whistle if you need to heat water while someone is sleeping)

Some things don't need to be improved. This kettle, identical in every way to the one we had when I was a kid, is simply a classic. Perfect in every way.

My previous Revere tea kettle was 20 or 30 years old and worked fine but had lost its shine, so in the interest of brightening up my kitchen I ordered a new one. Silly me, it never occurred to me that this, of all iconic American brands, would have been outsourced to China, home of cheap, shoddy, and toxic knockoffs of once reliable products. Within a few weeks, a crust formed at all the seams, something that never happened with the original kettle. What is the crust? I have no idea, but I can't assume it's safe to drink anything made with water boiled in this kettle. Looking through Amazon for a safe replacement, I find none; everything is from China now. There seems to be no stopping the tidal wave of outsourcing... Even though the product has been ruined and eventually people will stop ordering it. Apparently this is a way for companies to cash out and walk away. I bet they saved some original tea kettles for themselves. Meanwhile as of this writing (May 2019) this item still has an average 3.5 stars; that's because the reviews of the original product predominate. I would encourage Amazon to pay attention to this phenomenon. When the country of origin of a product that Amazon sells changes, they should assign a new ASIN to it so the new version can be reviewed on its own merits, and not inherit the reviews of the original product.

This tea kettle is 2 oz lighter than a twenty years older kettle, probably due to thinner gauge steel, and/or copper. Otherwise it is identical except for the whistling cap, the design of which has been changed, probably due to the defect which caused me to buy a new one: the metal whistle portion falling out. The new design is indeed not quite as loud. The difference in weight doesn't seem to make any practical difference, and might even be welcomed by some. The only problem I see with mine is that the handle wasn't perfectly aligned with the spout before the front strap was attached, but it's hardly noticeable. The handle, incidentally, does not get hot, or even very warm, by the time the whistle whistles with a normal load of water, provided that you keep the heat in the middle of the copper. If you heat up the stainless shell at the same time, it will make the handle hot. I could imagine it would get a lot hotter, too, if emptier, which I would caution against also, because that would over time undoubtedly cause the copper bottom to bow outward, making it rock on the stove. New, the bottom is bent inward slightly probably to allow for expansion. Whether that was true two decades ago I can't say. But this tea kettle's basic design hasn't changed since being introduced at least a half century ago, although they've experimented with other handles and changed the cap, because it is practical and efficient, and safer than a normal kettle. Filling it via the spout is a least as easy as any other way, and it really doesn't need cleaning unless you have very hard water, in which case you add a little vinegar to the water and boil it. Any increase in price or skimpiness of material is no doubt due to the increase in the price of copper. Copper-clad bottoms have always been Revere's signature, tho they could substitute stainless in this instance, it might well spread the heat more easily to the handle. It should go without saying that this pot is only for boiling water, not making tea in, and one should be careful not to heat anything in it which might react with the copper as it is not tinned or lined.
