The first one I bought is quiet and has run perfectly all summer, every summer, for six years — still going strong.
Unfortunately, the second one I bought three months ago was louder from the start, the left fan developed a rattle after only a few weeks, and the whole thing just stopped working, apropos of nothing, in the middle of last night. Sudden silence. No storm, no surge, the other things on the outlet are fine. Maybe it’s just a single dud?
Due to this working so well, I ended up purchasing one of the living room and one for my roommate. We haven't had to use our AC yet this year (even when the temp hits in the 70s) since these work so well.
The noise level is that of a standard fan. It's not silent, but also not super noisy.
Occasionally the fans will start making a weird noise but that seems to fix easily if it's switched from intake to exhaust and back to intake.
My models don't have the remote control.
The temperature control is horribly inaccurate and useless. I just leave mine on until it gets too chilly.
Disclaimer: bedrooms and living room is not large. I would not recommend for a full sized house unless you have multiple to properly draw and circulate the air.
(example: one on intake on one side of the room and one on exhaust on the other side of the room.)
There's some stuff that is on it and is kinda weird. Like the fan power dial. If you put it to anything less of 3/4 of the dial, the fan stops working. Which defeats the purpose of that. It comes with a speed setting. If I want the fan to be not as strong, then you can set it to medium or low. Especially since, if you put the dial to the middle, or even 3/4, the fan stops working.
There's also a lock on the accordion attachment (to the fan). It locks the width of the accordion in place of the window. But, I personally find this a bit useless. Putting this on the window, it stays at the width I like in no problem. It doesn't shrink or spring back. So, this seems kind of useless. But some people may find it useful. Now, that being said, this makes taking it out annoying. If you live in an apartment that has a window who has lost it's tension, and need to be held up as you maneuver this, this would be some trouble. Because you would need both hands; one hand to hold up the fan while the other hand unlock the accordion and push it back. I've found this quite annoying. I move my fan back and forth from the kitchen & living room quite frequent during the warmer days. So, this puts on a great deal of annoyance for me.
Something I would like would be the cord to be able to be tucked into the fan. Using this in a home with a 1 year old toddler in the house, with cords loose is hazardous. On top of that, it also looks neater if the cord can be tucked in to be shorter.
But, that all aside, this fan does a great job. I use it to exhaust in the kitchen while cooking. I live in a small apartment where I can not install any good exhaust vents. Not to mention, they would also be expensive. Using apartment vents, I actually have many incidences where the fire alarm went on. So far, I am very satisfied using this as an exhaust vent while cooking. It kept the smell out of the rest of the apartment and also the kitchen. When using this as intake, in the bedroom, or alone in the kitchen, during warmer days, it actually kept the apartment cool. My apartment isn't that great because not much air/wind can circulate into our apartment. It gets very humid and muggy especially in the summer. Using this, it kept the house cool and comfortable.
In all, I am satisfied with this. It met up to my standard for the price I had paid and does what I want it to do well. It's made out of plastic, kind of cheaply made in my opinion, but because of this it kept it light. It's pretty light that I am able to hold this myself with one hand. I think my purse weigh's more than this...
