I love the weight. It is not too heavy for me, but has enough weight to do the job without beating on things for days. I have used cool mallets that are light before and I find they ware you out. But, massive mallets with too much weight do the same thing. I feel this is the best compromise for weight/balance/performance. It can take on big jobs and smaller ones as well. I love traditional wood handles, and this one is just that. Solid and no frills. The part I think that makes this thing a beast is the metal head. It is obvious they designed this head to stay put. If it doesn't, I will not only be surprised, but i will update my review to say as much. I dig the non mar side a lot, but wish the materials were a little bit more dissimilar. I would prefer on a mallet that one rubber be much harder than the other. These are too similar for me, but that is a minor issue.
This is a heavy duty tool. I recommend highly. I give it 4.5.
A must for everyday use.
Just as an example, this one paid for itself ten times over when I had to dissemble a bed in a hurry so movers could move it - as they waited on the clock - because nobody thought to check if it actually came apart after 15 years of use. Oops. Even the big huge movers couldn't budge the components by hand, but a few taps with the mallet and the job was done with no damage.
