--Snow Sled Kids Winter Plastic Saucer
--Flexible Flyer Steel Saucer
--Downhill Sprinter Toboggan Snow Sled By Slippery Racer
The winner? The last one: The toboggan-style sled offered the most control, and while small at 35" long, was still big enough to fit two small 10-year-olds. The plastic held up well to lots of use on rugged terrain. However, a close second-best was the Flexible Flyer metal saucer, which was very sturdy and had a curved bottom (similar to other plastic saucers). And HUGE PLUS for not being plastic....we saw so many broken plastic sleds littering the slopes. Surprisingly, in terms of cost, it was just about the same as the two other plastic options we bought. It's heavier than the plastic versions but that should only be a consideration if you're hiking a considerable distance. The Snow Sled Kids Winter Plastic Saucer was our least favorite. It has a flat bottom, so if you're sledding on a gentle slope, it doesn't move and you have to push yourself to the bottom with your feet. We saw other people using more typical curved plastic saucers that handled the same gentle slope well. However, the flat-bottomed saucer did provide welcome friction when going down a steep, icy slope. But the kids preferred the toboggan anyway since they could ride at the same time.
*UPDATE Have used a few times to pull my daughter to school, and it glides over the snow easily. Still haven’t tried it on a hill yet.
** UPDATE: Was used on some hills at the park, and I’m told it worked well and was really fast (the fastest sled there). However, now it has dents in the bottom. I wasn’t there, and I think the dents are from a full-grown man riding in it, but it says on the label that the max weight is 250 lbs, and he’s maybe 170. Still works though.

Great product - great value - don't waste your money on those cheap plastic throwaways - this thing is stamped out of heavy guage Bethleham Steel. Could be used as a shiled in the event of a meteor shower or bazooka attack.
I placed my sweet 6 year old daughter on this sled, remembering how much fun I had as a kid on a similar toy. I gave her a gentle spin and sent her down the local hill. I also coated the base with Herzoggs Death Wax 2000. She made three revolutions in about 3 feet and that is when I realized I didn't need to add any rotation to the ride. She continued down the hill with increasing speed and maxed out at about 200 rpms by the time she hit the flats. Thats when the speed wax kicked in and she took off across the snow pack like a Jamacian Bobsleeder with his dreds on fire.
She finally made it back around suppertime and proclaimed that was the best ride of her little life. Tommorro we are going to attach her with a tow line behind the snowmobile and see how she does.
