Product Description

From the Manufacturer

The Gorilla Gripper is a unique construction tool that allows one person to lift and carry heavy sheet goods (such as plywood, drywall, particleboard, melamine, tempered glass and granite) from the top, with much less strain and greatly reduced risk of injury to the back, neck, shoulders, arms & hands! The gripper works by clamping onto the top of the material, creating a sturdy temporary handle for the person who is carrying them. It allows the user to lift and move them with a straight back, eliminating the requirement of bending over to get under the bottom, thus avoiding the torqued back and the aches and pains that are far too familiar to construction workers and do-it-yourselfers. It's made of aircraft-grade aluminum, very rugged and virtually indestructible. It is continuously self-adjusting from 3/8-inch to 1-1/8-inch. Rubber gripping pads mounted on both plates protect the surfaces of the materials from being damaged or marred. There's just nothing like the Gorilla Gripper...it works!

Grip pad on one side started to slide off. It would move an eighth of an inch with each piece of 23/32 advantech decking that I moved. Had 60 sheets to carry into a basement by myself. It was going great up until the 40th sheet when I noticed the glue had released on the grip pad and it was sliding off. I was able to stick it back on every so often to get the job done but I dis not try to pick up a sheet without the pad in place. I was too worried about getting dirt in the glue and rendering it useless.UPDATE: After gluing the pad back into place with gorilla glue, this thing has held up well. I use it often when remodeling and makes carrying plywood much easier for a one man show. Highly recommend

A 3/4" 4x8 sheet of plywood is not only heavy, but bulky. You need another person to move it unless you don't mind dragging it on the ground and ruining the edges and corners. The Gripper makes it extremely easy to move it by yourself. I take mine to the lumber yard when I pick up plywood by myself.
Even if you do manage to lift it up with one hand on opposite long edges, you can't see where you're going on one side. With the GG you can.

Just be careful when you buy it - there are 3 versions that have different ranges of thicknesses. Find the right one for you.
I got the middle size which goes up to a double pack of sheet rock. But it won't grip a 1/4" plywood sheet. But that's easily fixed by using a block of wood with the gripper.
Funny thing, though. The web site for the product doesn't mention the 3 different size ranges, but they do exist.

It is a very useful product for me and is well-built and easy to use.

I highly recommend it, even for occasional use, because when you need it, it's a godsend.

I love this tool. I'm no youngster and I frequently work alone doing cabinetry and home remodeling. The handle is well-padded and very comfortable. The Gorilla Gripper allows one person to move 4' x 8' panels of plywood and drywall around the shop or work site without bending awkwardly. This, in my opinion, significantly reduces the probability of a lower back strain and eases the load on arms and shoulders as well. While the sheet goods don't get any lighter, the unique grip action and lifting angle of this tool makes it possible to get a firm, properly balanced grip on full-sized sheet goods. By grasping the panel at the center of the long edge, you can easily carry a full size sheet by yourself. Moving the gripper a few inches to either side of center causes the panel to hang from the gripper at an angle suitable for going up or down stairs. The rubber padding and nice wide grip distributes the gripping pressure allowing you to carry 4' x 8' drywall panels without damaging or marking the panel. This is a well-made tool suitable for around the house/shop as well as commercial applications. This is worth the price and has already gotten rave reviews from my arms, shoulders and back. Recommended without reservation.

I work in a small cabinet shop where I have to haul material from one end of the shop to the table saw at the other end. Over the years I have injured both elbows carrying heavy sheets of melamine and plywood. This little device works beautifully! It's built very sturdy and allows one to lift with their whole body. It allows one to carry material in a more comfortable position as well. Yesterday I carried 5 sheets of 3/4 oak ply and 11 sheets of 5/8 melamine. No joint pain at all! The material is still heavy, but the Gorilla Gripper allows better body positioning for the hall the the back of the shop. Well worth the money.

If you are reading this, you need to buy this tool. I will never again lift a sheet of plywood by myself without it. I take it to the hardware store too. Yes you need to be able hoist the sheet up onto your shoulder with one hand but the carry is very comfortable. The shape of the handle is very easy to grip and the weight is in the right spot that you can slightly arch your back and get the weight onto your back a little if you want. That said, this thing is subject to the laws of physics. The gripping force is limited by the weight of the payload. It does not have a hydraulic clamp that can squeeze multiple sheets together firmly. It doesn't work well with multiple sheets. I also wouldn't use it with drywall but that's not the fault of this tool. Build quality is excellent. This is a real tool not a gimmick

I read over a lot of reviews, especially the 1 - 2 star ones and decided to give this a try anyway.
We run a custom cabinet shop and work with heavy sheet goods like 3/4" mdf. We load our sheet goods from the
truck right on to our panel saw but even so working with these sheet goods is tough on our aging wrists and usually
one guy will work with the panel saw.
The tool works as described, however you cannot unweight the sheet at all or it will slip right out. Example -
on the first sheet I tried -3/4" MDF I wanted to shift my grip slightly on the tool to get a better
hand grip. I snapped the weight of the board up slightly to do this and the split second
that the weight of the board was gone as it "bounced" it slipped out of the gripper and dropped. No toes crushed so
I tried again, this time I lifted up quickly on the board and bounced the weight again on purpose and it slipped
right out. So moral to the story is go slow and steady, if you need to change a grip or body position -set the
board down and then lift again. We watched the video on the gorilla gripper site and if you watch he never
unweights the board, and moves very smoothly and slowly and we know why. I'm not sure about
using it on ladders or scaffolding, but I would certainly give it a try with the above comment in mind.
But now we always use the gripper to handle our sheet goods. We have had
no problem with the slick MDF slipping out of the unit as noted on other reviews. Hope this helps your decision....

I've had two of these in the shop for years and they are fantastic for moving and carrying sheets of plywood. It's an ingenious little device that allows one person to relatively comfortably carry very heavy sheets of plywood.

I've read some negative reviews complaining that it fails if used to carry sheetrock. It is not for sheetrock! It should be obvious, but carrying a full piece of sheetrock from a single friction grip at the top is a recipe for crushing and tearing it.

This little piece of gear paid for itself the first day I used it. Moving around panels of cement board, drywall and plywood with this sucker was a breeze. Oh how I wish I had one of these 40 years ago when I was a young labourer schlepping 3/4" plywood around a construction site. But what better time to discover this tool than in my geezer years when a day brute force hauling gets you a down day with geezer aches, pains, pulled muscles and a crippling back injury. This is simply a brilliant design. It is a very well-made, high-quality item. Worth. Every. Penny.
