Product Description

The Fiskars X11 Splitting Axe is another easy-to-carry choice, perfect for hikers and outdoor enthusiasts. The Fiskars Splitting Axe is the ideal splitting axe for small-sized logs. Our splitting axe combines perfected weight distribution, advanced blade geometry, an ultra-sharp edge, and a virtually unbreakable design to maximize your performance. This sharp blade axe is an ideal kindling splitter for outside by the fire pit or while camping and hiking. The combination of features allows the blade to disperse evenly for a more effective wood-splitting axe, offering more one-strike splits with each swing. With more blade penetration on each swing, you can chop more firewood in less time, with less effort and hand strain. This wood splitter axe is a great addition to your stash of outdoor and camping accessories. Designed to help you transform the backyard, Fiskars outdoor, lawn, and gardening tools are equipped with smart technologies and award-winning, ergonomic features that make it easier and more enjoyable to perform your own lawn care. From pruning shears, lawn mowers, weeding tools, and tree cutters, we take a holistic approach to develop garden equipment that reflects hours of immersive study, research, and validation, resulting in gardening supplies that outperform the competition and feel like a natural extension of your body.

From the Manufacturer

This superbly designed, compact axe defies the concept of size matters. Fact is, a smaller axe has its place in the world. Canoe trips into the Northwest Territories when space is tight. Trail clearing when you want to travel fast and light. And in the hands of smaller-framed people tired of being bossed around by an overgrown axe. If any of the situations above describe you, this is your axe. Plus, it's crafted with all the fine details of its bigger counterparts, including a unique wedge-shaped blade that takes fewer swings to bust through the toughest timber. The FiberComp fiberglass composite handle is many times stronger than traditional wood handles, yet it¿s also light in weight and impervious to weather. Fiskars¿ insert molded design prevents the head from ever loosening or separating from the handle. And a lifetime guarantee means you can trust to really hack it.

I want to like this... (and I do)
I want to like this axe, I do! I have used it for almost three hours over two separate sessions. The good points, this axe splits wood! It is sharp and the weight distribution is amazing. After my first 30 min trial run when I got it was fun. I did not want to quit but it got to dark to keep cutting. This axe is everything they say it is. It makes lighter work of the heavy task of splitting rounds 24"-36" in diameter. Now the only bad point for me, a tingling in my left thumb. I noticed it after the first time and just shook it off as getting used to a new axe. No big deal. The second time I used it for over 2 hours. I split a lot of wood. Wearing gloves with it was not workable. It caused a pinching and began to rub a blister on my left thumb. I took the gloves off and kept going as this axe makes splitting wood as much fun as it can be splitting wood. The tingling in my thumb began to grow. It feels like just the last joint in my thumb is asleep. Now two days later the tingling is still there, but dimishing. This is supposed to have shock-absorbing properties in the handle. But, the end of the handle is hollow. It seems like my left thumb bears the brunt of any vibrations coming down the handle. It makes it unusable for me.EDIT:I did not return the axe as I thought I would. I continued to use it and discovered the discomfort came from the gloves I was wearing. I changed to a different pair and the issue went away. This is an AMAZINg axe. I really like it. You can see from the pictures I have split a little bit of wood since I got it. It has kept a very sharp edges. I have not had to sharpen it and it still cuts though oak and hickory like butter. It has great weight distribution. And after changing gloves I can split till my I just run out of time and have a good bit of work to show for it. I like this axe!I have paired it with the 6.5 lb maul. They are a great combo.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great splitting axe
Reviewed in the United States on November 14, 2023
As a beginner in the world of wood chopping, I was on the lookout for an axe that wouldn’t be too intimidating or difficult to use. I found exactly what I needed in this splitting axe. Here’s why it’s been great for me:

• Well-Balanced Design: The balance of this axe is remarkable. It’s not too heavy, making it manageable for someone who’s not used to handling such tools. This balance helps in making each swing feel more natural and less tiring, which is really important when you’re just starting out.
• Ease of Use: This axe fits comfortably in the hands, and the grip is secure. I was worried about the axe slipping or being unwieldy, but those fears were unfounded. It’s user-friendly, even for a complete novice like me. Keep in mind I always wear glove when working outside.
• Durability: I’ve been using this axe for a season now, and it’s still as sharp as when I first got it. This durability is a big plus because it means I don’t have to worry about constant maintenance or sharpening, allowing me to focus more on learning the proper techniques.
• Effective on Various Woods: Whether I’ve tackled softwood or hardwood, this axe has performed consistently well. It’s been a great confidence booster to see how effectively it splits different types of wood.

Overall, for any beginners out there looking for their first splitting axe, I can’t recommend this one enough. It’s made my initial foray into wood splitting much less daunting and far more enjoyable.

This review focuses on the aspects that are most relevant and reassuring for someone new to wood splitting, emphasizing the ease of use, balance, and durability of the axe.
