The hidden heater is thermostatically controlled to operate only when necessary – you won’t be using electricity unless it’s cold outside! The water for your birds won’t freeze, so they’ll know to keep coming back all season. |
The built-in plug hides underneath the birdbath, so your extension cord can be easily concealed from view. Mount anywhere on your deck or fence and use a standard grounded outdoor extension cord of any length. |
4 “twist-on” screws quickly and easily mount on deck railings, deck posts, fence posts, and more. The birdbath body is made from compression-molded plastic for durability and longevity. |

This is the perfect replacement for winter. Our ceramic bird bath has frozen twice already this fall. As described it has a thermostat and will only heat water when temperature gets cold. Over night when temp drops to 20 it kicks on and water will steam and feel warm. But if it is 40 out so is the water. Birds have literally been flocking to it. Squirrels and chipmunks have also been visiting.
Pros:
The base has a very sure and positive lock to my 6" deck rail. The screws are made for either 4 or 6", so I have these very long screws sticking out. Easy fix ... cut them or buy shorter ones.
Keeps water melted down to 3 degrees so far. Will test it further as the winter progresses. However, I may end up putting it away if the birds continue to not use it.
Cons:
The basin screws on to the base unit in a very loose fashion. There is no positive lock mechanism and therefore, there is no way to level the basin. If you try to level the base to match the basin, the basin still settles off kilter. This wht I rate it a 3.
Thank you.
1. Water temperature routinely hits 70-80°F, measured with a digital thermometer, when ambient is above freezing. Mfr says this is normal. Basically, the thermostat isn't sensitive. If you don't mind paying to run a hot tub for birds, here you go.
2. Difficult to level. The bath is made of two pieces, a base that screws to the deck railing, and a bowl that screws to the base. If you're hoping to level the base with a torpedo and screw the bowl on it, lots of luck. I think you might be able to assemble the whole thing, fill it, and then level it.
3. Emptying it is difficult. It doesn't tilt like some others. You have to unscrew it, which means you're going to get bird bath water all over yourself. I've found letting the water freeze and then heating it enough to lift the block of ice out is effective.
4. There doesn't seem to be much clearance under the bowl. If your extension cord had a heavy duty plug, it may or may not fit.
5. I'm not happy with the quality of the plastic. You're probably going to have to fuss with the base and it can only take so much. Ditto for the bowl's threads.
Anyhow, if you need a high-powered bird bath for a frigid climate, this could certainly fill the bill. Suggest you look at competing models, though.
