Product Description

The 2020 provides the professional illustrator with an airbrush capable of producing the ultimate in fine line detail. It is more precise, more comfortable, and more reliable than any competitor. When fine line detail or the finest paint atomization for a “soft” spray pattern is required, SOTAR is the only choice. Finely pigmented properly reduced paints, water colors, inks, dyes, and low viscosity acrylics can be sprayed with the 2020. The elongated body maintains an efficient distance between trigger and paint reservoir. The trigger and back lever assemble easily thanks to our innovative “track and winged” design. The Sotar has a mounted 1/12 ounce color cup which allows for extended use before having to add color. The fine (black) needle / nozzle will spray a "Hair” line to 3/4-inch (19 millimeter) spray pattern The medium (white) needle / nozzle will spray a "pen" line to 1-inch (25 millimeter) spray pattern The heavy (clear) needle / nozzle will spray a "pencil” line to 1 1/4 inch (31 millimeter) spray pattern.

Very pleased
After watching a lot of YouTube reviews and comparisons by artists in the miniature painting world, I went against a friend's advice to avoid Badger (she owns an art store and teaches classes in airbrushing, among other mediums). Her main complaint was primarily in the area of cleaning and durability. I've had the Sotar for about a year now and, short of replacing a needle I bent while being careless, I have had no issues after learning the basics. Disassembling, cleaning, and reassembling is pretty quick and easy once you've run through the steps a few times. If you're interested in miniature painting, the one recommendation I would make is to also purchase the kit with larger needle and nozzle for priming or base-coating your models. The fine needle is crazy-good for detail work, but using it to prime and apply a zenithal over a couple dozen models is painfully slow.

5.0 out of 5 stars Super Awesome Fine Line Airbrush
Reviewed in the United States on March 16, 2016
I decided to purchase this airbrush from all the positive reviews. For years I have been using cheap, Chinese made airbrushes for my modeling needs and for the most part they have served me well. My biggest complaints were usually spattering when trying to create very fine lines, or clogging of paint within the airbrush. But since I could buy three of the cheap brushes compared to this one ($99), I never got too upset when one would stop working. What made me decide to get the Badger Sotar 2020 was my recent shift to 1/72 scale models. I wanted the same shadowing and weathering but needed it to be more precise. The first thing I noticed as I took the Badger Sotar airbrush out of its package was the weight of it. It's heavy. The trigger was very tight and felt very good while holding it. It is completely made of machined metal except for the bottom finger grip. The trigger stop rotates smoothly and has the right amount of resistance. Everything about this brush reeks quality right down to the "Made In The USA" laser etched on the side of the barrel. It only took me 5 minutes to fall in love with it as I was able to get pencil lead width lines without any spattering or clogging. I am so happy that I spent the money and am certain that this brush will take my modeling skills to the next level.

Word of advice: The Badger hose connector is proprietary and is really small. To make things easier for you, I recommend the Badger 51-042 QD Coupler. It is a quick release adapter for easier cleaning and has a built in 1/4 inch hose adapter (just unscrew the Badger fitting) to fit most standard hoses and compressors. Definitely worth the price.
