-Shot glasses can be tough to take out of the mold, and
-Even with distilled water, the shot glasses don't come out as perfectly-shaped shot glasses - there are large bumps that form on the inside of the ice shot glass. I'm not sure if this is because the water is expanding in the mold while freezing or if it's because some of the gas that's dissolved in the water is trying to escape and causing a bubble.
The latter gripe that I have experienced is something I've found somewhat of a workaround for. I've been filling these shot glass molds half full (in terms of overall height of the mold) and letting the water freeze, and then filling the rest of the mold and letting the rest of the shot glass freeze. This seems to alleviate some of the large bumps that form on the inside of the shot glass.
When using these shot glasses, it's best to use chilled alcohol, because room temperature alcohol does obviously melt through the glasses a lot quicker.
Also, I've found that these ice shot glasses make handy little dissolvable jiggers. I'll usually place an ice shot glass into my whiskey glass, fill it with my spirit of choice, and then fill the rest of my whiskey glass with my mixer. However, I usually do over-fill the jigger with alcohol just a tad because I like my drinks a little bit on the stronger side, but it works all the same.
-Works great as a shot glass and you can make many of them for a more entertaining evening.
-Plenty of room between the bottom of the ice glass and the bottom of the inside liquid to prevent leakage.
Cons:
-Good only for a couple of shots
-Can't really set them down anywhere because they'll get the surfaces wet. Careful where you guests leave em.
-When opening the box initially, this thing STUNK with chemicals. Even after rinsing several times, smell didn't go away. I suggest making the shot glasses and popping them out after no more than 24 hours in the freezer. Just pop em out and flip em upside down in the freezer so no dust get's in.
Other items:
-They are kinda hard to pop out each one out but that's not really something big enough to be a con unless your making 100's of these.
Now we can do it at home!
A couple of tips... make sure your liquor is cold. If it's room temperature or warmer, and it's hot outside, the liquor will likely melt a hole in your "glass" before you have a chance to shoot it.
Also, fill the water up to *just* below the top of the mold. Too short and there's no bottom in your glass. Too high and it will swell up over the edge upon freezing (the four vessels might freeze together, and it makes each "glass" hard to balance/set on a flat surface).
Finally, make sure there isn't a window next to the brick wall you're smashing these against. Drunk people tend to have poor aim.
