Product Description
The Best Tools in Earth
At CobraHead we are convinced that the world would be a better place if everyone gardened. That’s why we have developed a line of gardening tools that are comfortable and efficient to make gardening work easier.
The CobraHead Story
The idea for the first CobraHead Weeder came about when Noel Valdes was working with an old five-tined cultivating hoe. One of the tines of the old tool worked loose. Noel realized that a single tine mounted in a short handle could make an exceptional weeding and cultivating tool, and with that as a starting point, started a company to produce the CobraHead Weeder and Cultivator.
CobraHead now makes a line of tools which have earned a reputation for quality and efficiency. Our American-made tools are designed by gardeners for gardeners. Tough and reliable and easy to use, gardeners trust CobraHead tools.

Gardeners LOVE this tool!
Gardening is a relaxing and enjoyable hobby, but it comes with some tedious tasks. Pulling out reluctant weeds or breaking up tough soil can be frustrating and time consuming without the right tools. The Original CobraHead Weeder and Cultivator is here to make those jobs easier so that you can focus on planting and nurturing your garden. This hand cultivator comes with a blade designed to cut through any soil, even clay. Its slender design gives it an unprecedented level of precision without sacrificing durability.
Customer reviews
Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

Pros:
1. A simple design, which is the most effective for weeding. I tried conventional weeding tools, but this is my go-to tool.
2. Forged tool head is strong. I work in soil with a lot of rocks and the steel is high quality and the spade head resists chipping and marring when I accidentally hit rocks. I also have not broken the shaft when tacking larger jobs although I can feel it bend. The super sharp, high carbon steel Japanese imports also work well, but they are designed for the perfect soils in Japan: rich and loamy, with nary a rock or stone in it. Using those finesse tools in the soil I have will chip and dull the tools in no time.
Cons:
1. Using this tool is really hard on the back. For most effective use you have to bend your back at a 90 degree angle to your legs to allow you to hook and pull up weeds as you move around the yard. After 45' of weeding, my back is killing me! They do make a long handle version so you can stand upright but I prefer to get closer in for more control while weeding.
2. The manufacturer really should make a larger version 2x the size of this tool. There is a long handle version but guess what? It uses the same size head as the single hand tool. A larger tool head would make it much easier when users inevitably tackle larger jobs due to the effectiveness of this tool.
3. The manufacturer seems unaware of something known in the metalworking industry as 'threadlockers'. To prevent the set screw on the long handle version from working loose frequently you can use a medium threadlocker such as LocTite Blue. It is used in the automotive industry to prevent nuts and bolts from loosening due to vibration. If you do need to break it loose for repair, it can be done with some effort, but nothing unmanageable (don't use LocTite Red, as that requires heating the part to 200 degrees F to loosen).
4. The tool is a bit pricey (but worth the price).
Update: I am glad Cobrahead uses good steel in this tool, because I don't know how many times I've hit rocks in the soil when using it. I also had to pry out fiddleback fern growing between stones in a stone wall (to transfer to soil). I hit the stones so hard trying to get under the roots, that I saw sparks on several occasions. Despite all this, the tool head still holds it's edge well.
Why a second one if the first one is still in great condition? Everyone keeps taking off with it! Everyone in my household loves to use it. And so does everyone else I know who has tried one. In fact, I purchased one for my dad as father's day gift the year after I bought my first one. He and my mom argue over who gets to use it. Guess I should have gotten one for mother's day too!
It makes it easy to get rid of tough plants like creeping charlie, wild violets, and garlic chives (I recommend NOT letting these grow in your garden or never letting them go to seed). In fact, the CobraHead was more effective than a shovel against the garlic chives. I broke a shovel trying to dig out these monsters. The CobraHead gets under the root mass and pops them out root, bulb, and all! In fact, my son said it was actually fun to use the CobraHead to get the chives out!
Weeding around plants with this tool is fast and easy. It easily loosens even tough, baked soil. I can dig holes, cut roots, cultivate, make planting trenches, edge, pull weeds, and move soil/mulch around as I plant and weed. There really are not many basic garden chores this tool can't do.
It's ergonomic and strong. And, as my son pointed out, now that I have two, I can garden like Wolverine.
Top reviews from other countries
Overall, this tool is a bit pricey but found it very efficient at getting weeds out without making the usual mess. The curved neck leading to the flat spade shaped blade also seemed to help, and the handle is very comfortable. The metal blade and neck feels solid. So while you need to get down on your hands and knees to pull weeds with this tool, it is worth it because we found it helps to get into tight spots you can't with a full sized stand up weed puller. Hopefully this review is helpful if you are thinking about purchasing it.
