Great, big, cot!
4 Stars
Great, big, cot!
Great cot. The XXL is BIG!!! So be aware depending on where you're putting it, as well as how far you plan on carrying it to your destination. Out in the open - no issues. Inside a tent - this will take up significant space. In addition, as you can see in the photos, the end bars protrude a few inches on each side (making the end widths about 44.5" wide - so plan accordingly). This may affect aisle space, especially if putting two of these next to each other (as I did inside an REI Kingdom 8 tent - see photo). Putting the end bars on can take some effort - there is a red guide pin on one end that is supposed to make the effort easier. Overall it is very comfortable - I am not using any pad, just a sleeping bag and the cot. Two people on here is snug (good or bad depending on what you are aiming to accomplish).A few gripes (I hope Teton is listening):1. The end bars do not lock in place. As this is a wide cot, moving it can be awkward, and lifting by the end bars pop them out of place. This is exacerbated when positioning the cot inside a tent and being careful of the tent floor (you will know what I mean when you try it).2. The carrying bag is a simple tote bag. I would like to have seen a zippered/fully-enclosed heavier duty canvas bag than what it comes in. Something more weather resistant.3. Although a separate product, the attachable organizer is only so-so. For lightweight items it is fine. Putting something heavier, like a "beverage", causes it to swing inward under the cot, whereby the angle will cause your beverage to spill if it doesn't have a sealed lid on it. I have a mind to add some weights to the bottom helping to anchor it so as to minimize this effect. Your mileage may vary.

This cot is almost perfect. It's comfortable and really, really sturdy.

PROS
Sturdy: I'm a tosser and turner and this thing has never budged on me, no matter how roughly I'm sleeping. I've also had me, my daughter and two 50-lb dogs hanging out on it and it didn't feel like it was even close to being overweighted.

Size: I've taken to wanting to be comfortable while car camping. I put a egg crate twin sized mattress pad on this, and a jersey twin fitted sheet over both and it feels like I'm sleeping on a comfy twin bed. And again, I can toss and turn on this like I do at home because I don't feel like I'm going to fall off of it.

Comfort: While I prefer adding a foam mattress pad, it really is comfortable both ways. It's firm enough that I don't wake up with back pain (I have a lower back injury and air mattresses are hell), but soft enough that I don't feel like I"m sleeping on the ground.

Height: This is going in both the pro and con section - the pro to the height is that I can store everything in my tent under the cot, so there is tons of floor space in my tent.

CONS:
Setup: Because this thing is so heavy duty, the setup takes some energy. It's huge - so it's hard to not take out the tent or another person while setting it up, and the bars are hard to snap in.

Height: At 5'3", I can't sit on this and have my feet reach the floor. Because I have a lower back injury, it's a little difficult for me to get in and out of this thing (which is doubly annoying when I have to use the bathroom in the middle of the night). The bars on the sides are really solid and stiff, and then the fabric dips just a little bit under your weight, so you are kind of sucked into the middle when you sit on it. Because I'm shorter, this means that I can't lean my body weight forward to get out of bed. My husband at 5'10" has no problems with this, so this is just a short person problem.

Size: This is 90% a PRO, but... make sure you have a large enough tent for these cots. They are HUGE. And because they sit high off the ground, if you have a dome-like tent where the sides come in, you can't use the floor measurements for whether this cot will fit. We got a new tent this year and got a 7 person Coleman tent, with the intent of putting two of these cots in it, and it was too small! We wanted the cots at the far ends of the tent so that we could get in and out of the door, but the width of the tent was too narrow for the cots to fit. So we wound up having to return the tent and get the 10 person Weathermaster. That tent is actually overkill, but it's pretty lush having that much space.

This is basically a twin bed for camping - so it feels really luxurious (especially if you put regular twin bedding and a nice comforter on it instead of sleeping bags - I have a crazy warm Ikea down comforter that has kept me warm even in 25 degree Northern Michigan nights).

I'd highly recommend adding a mattress pad of some sort - it will take this cot from pretty comfortable to feeling like you are on a real bed.

...I am in my mid-60's and still love to camp, but due to a replacement-hip and several damaged disks in my spine, sleeping on the ground in a tent is no longer a comfortable option for me, so for the last decade I have slept in my Dodge-Minivan on a regular mattress...But this has worn out, so I decided to upgrade...

...I wanted a cot, but didnt like the small, creaky, uncomfortable cots carried in most stores, so went online and found a GInormous one that had good reviews, and the manufacturer also made a sleeping-bag in the same size...40 x 85..

...I bought both, and coupled them with a 2" memory-foam pad which I sandwiched between the bag and cot with an old quilt, holding that combo in place with light elastic cords....

..I am just sorry I did not do this years earlier!..This cot is HUGE!!!...It is very comfortable, very sturdy, heavy, well-made, with heavy-duty legs and frame and canvas!

...I would agree with all the other who commented on this product...but to really truly appreciate the size of this cot you must try to visualize a twin-sized bed!

...This thing is SO big it is probably eligible for it's own zip code?!

...It has a very sturdy feel when you lay down in it...with no creaks, and is rock-solid with no movement in any direction...and overall the craftsmanship looks solid and of good-quality materials... and this cot compares nicely with the other lesser cots on the market at a modest price making it good-value for your bucks!

...I have slept in it once, and I am extremely happy and satisfied with this cot so far!...I can move around in various positions without making contact with the side rails, and at over 7-feet in length, neither my arms or feet were hanging over the ends, and it did not sag much at all, so I was impressed!...Obviously, only repeated use and time will tell how well it holds up and performs in the long run, but I have slept on many cots over the years..and have Never found one so sturdy and Huge at a reasonable price to boot!

...This cot also comes with a very sturdy and well-made carry-sack that has handles and straps for transport...but it is fairly heavy...but if you are vehicle or tent camping, the weight is hardly a factor...

...Many other reviews have mentioned how difficult it is to assemble the first time, and I would agree...it is great exercise!..but this is a by-product of the unusually sturdy construction...and I would rather struggle a little to put it up as a more than fair trade for it performing as well as it does overall...And when I assembled it again several times...it was easier to do...or else I am stronger because of it?!...LOL!..

...The only weak point in the whole cot seems to be the nylon tabs that the end rails slide onto...But considering how well the rest of it is made, I doubt the manufacturer cheaped out on this critical piece, as a lot of good engineering went into the overall design of this sleeping cot...

...Aside from that, I am Very pleased with this product, and would gladly recommend it and the manufacturer at any time!...The cot arrived well-packed and boxed, and in a short time after I placed the order....and I cant wait to go out and do some serious camping with it!

...Also, if you are interested in this product, take a good hard look at the accompanying sleeping bag to make a terrific combo!...It is also from the same manufacturer, and is their Teton Sports Celcius XL 0-Degree Sleeping Bag, which I have also reviewed on this site...I love this combo!...

5.0 out of 5 stars Huge! As in... XXXL
Reviewed in Canada on July 6, 2017
As President Trump would say... "This is HUGE!"

This well-packaged cot arrived right on time, just like Amazon Prime indicated it would. And, when set up, took me less than a second to realize I had greatly underestimated its actual size, despite my habit of glossing through the dimensions. I wanted a large, sturdy cot, but really should have laid out the measurements on the floor. This thing is big... extremely well made, mind you... but did I mention BIG!? The finished, set up dimensions are: 40"W x 85"L x 10"H, with the end bars being a hair under 45" each, which would be no problem assuming I was using the very cool-looking
TETON Sports Outfitter XXL Quick Tent  that is designed to sit attached to the surface of the beast. However, other than using the cot as a spare bed or in a very large tent, it leaves little room for anything else.

However, the unit is cleverly designed, solidly manufactured, extremely comfortable (particularly for my gargantuan frame) and quite easy to put up and put away in its carry case (included). The surface fabric is very heavy-duty (600D Poly Canvas), tough as a trampoline, and taught enough to bounce a quarter or small child with puppy, well into the air. As such, it required a bit of extra effort locking in the end bar the first time I set it up. I presume, as per instructions, that this will get easier once the fabric stretches a bit.

I would suggest that the cot be assembled outdoors, for a day or so prior to its first real use, as there is a faint chemical odor that comes off the Poly Canvas top and you will probably want to dispel it. You may also need some maneuvering room as you get used to its size and set up.

Be assured that this is not a back-packing unit at its rated 26lbs. But, it does make for one heck of a great night's sleep at a drive-in camp. When I added the accessory
TETON Sports Outfitter XXL Camp Pad , I was happy to have spent the money. Life was good... very, very good!
