    This was a Christmas present for my 7 y/o, but the whole family plus any and all friends who came over during the holiday week got in on the fun. This was something I remembered doing as a child, and it was really fun to share that with them. I'm talking ages ranging from 7 up to 44, and nearly everything in between. We all got a kick out of these things. They do curl while they're baking, but wait a few more seconds and they'll flatten back out. THEN take them out of the oven. Super easy and really fun to watch.

    Bought for my 71/2 year old nephew as an Easter present in his basket. He had no idea what they were, so I had to explain that Shrinky Dinks were all the rage when I was his age. (Yup, feeling old!) He didn't seem interested at first until I opened the package with him and then he was so excited when he saw he could make his own magnets and keychains! That was it - he was off running with this craft! He ripped open the pack of designs and spent several minutes going through each one and picking the 3 he wanted to color (we set a limit for that day to make them last). 10 minutes later he had his 3 designs completely colored with the pencils that came in the kit and we were ready to cook. We got a step stool out and let him sit in front of the oven with the light on to watch them SHRINK of course! He was mesmerized - the look on his face when they started to move was incredible! Follow the instructions inside the package and you'll be fine. It will take a minute or 2 for anything to happen once you put them into the oven, then they will shrink rather quickly and probably even curl right up into a ball. Don't panic! They are meant to do that. Don't take them out...just let them continue to cook until they flatten themselves out. Once that happens, wait another 30-45 seconds and then take them out. We had placed them on parchment paper on the cookie sheet, so when they came out of the oven we folded the parchment over the 3 shrinky dinks and pressed firmly (with a pot holder) for 15 seconds just make sure they were 100% flat. Worked like a charm! Nephew was so excited, that he begged us to let him do another one. We caved. And he loved it! With more than 20 items to color and all the accessories to display them when they are done, this really is an excellent, family oriented craft that grown-ups and kids can participate in and enjoy! And once you master this kit, you can buy the plain refill pages of shrinky dink paper and make your own designs from scratch.

    7 year old gives this 5 stars. He loved doing these. I got my 3.5 year old some too, a bit different set, she loved them as well. The colored pencils they come with are nice and bright, and we pulled out a big crayola set of pencils to use too, and those worked just as well. I set up the toaster oven and he could color then go put them in himself and watch them shrink. They shrink up then flatten out, so you have to wait til that happens, then pull them out. He had one that curled, then he pulled it out...we put it back in the oven later and it fixed itself. There are a lot in this kit. The cardboard stands are a little lame...more accessories like the magnets and chains would be nice so he could do something with all these tiny plastic things we now have. This is the best kind of craft...NO MESS...and they can do it themselves. Hallelujah.
