Step 2Repeat the pin removal process on the link's other pin. When you have finished, you should have two pins and possibly two ferrules ready to use later. |
Step 3Once the required links have been removed the pin will need to replaced into the band to complete it again. If you need to, you can gently tap the pin back into place using your small hammer. |

The most useful tool for me was the one that helps remove the back of the watch. With my large and clunky Men's Tag it's actually very easy to do with a pair of needlenose pliers. Attempting that same trick with a Tag Ladies Link, well that doesn't work so well and get's your girlfriend pretty unhappy when you put a scratch on the back when it slips out of the notches. The tool in this kit does the job really well, no slipping, no scratching. Are there better versions of this tool out there? I'm sure there are, but not at this price, with everything else included.
I also used the link removal tool to take links out of the above mentioned Ladies Link. The tool really is a bit flimsy, but that's mainly due to the uber tiny pin in the band. With the larger Men's version I've been able to press a paperclip into the hole to get the pin to come out the other side then finished pulling it out with pliers, but that's simply not possible with the ladies version.
The little black block of plastic and one of the tiny screw drivers actually works really well to remove pins as well if you have a challenging band. Just lay the band in, make sure the pinhole is over an empty space, use one of the small screwdrivers or pin removal tools (screw drivers are a bit sturdier) and push.
I'm not sure how anyone can really complain about the kit based on the price. It's cheap, but it's effective and will likely get the job done and depending on the type of watch you have, it will save you a fortune over taking it to the jeweler. Once you've used this kit, you'll feel downright silly for having taken it somewhere and spent significantly more than this kit plus the cost of batteries costs. Pays for itself with one use.
Then I found a video on YouTube that explained my Seiko watch band. The reason you can't see any holes for pins is because it has L-shaped pins and the bottom of the L faces the outside of the band. The trick to removing an L-pin is to stick a pin punch in the underside of the band, into the hole that's farthest away from the arrow that shows the direction the pin slides out. Then tap on the pin punch with the little hammer (in the direction the arrow points) until you see the bottom of the L emerge from the side of the watch band. When it comes out far enough, grab it with the pliers and gently pull it out the rest of the way.
I would add that the block that acts as a watch band holder during pin removal does not seem to be designed for use with watch bands that use L-pins (because the holes in the block that you're supposed to position the pin over as you're tapping on it are all too small for an L-pin to fall into). However, I still found the block, pin punch, and hammer good enough for the job. By the way (as other reviewers have said), all 3 of the pin punches I got in the kit appear to have the same size head, as do all 3 of the slotted screwdrivers and both of the Phillips head screwdrivers (even though one has a much longer handle than the other). I haven't tried any of the other tools except those that I needed to remove links from my watch band, but they look like they might be useful. For the price I paid, I thought the kit was more than worth buying, even though the quality is not fantastic. If it saves you even one trip to a jeweler (as it did me), it's well worth it. Plus I feel equipped to repeat the job of removing/replacing links as needed in the future. Just be warned that you're pretty much on your own as far as figuring out how to use the tools. I suggest you read reviews on Amazon and also search YouTube for tips on how to use the tools.

Apart from the long shipping duration, the tools are perfect for me to shorten my watch's band. It was packed in transparent plastic which also labels the name of each tool. The reason that pushes me to buy this tool set is that the fixing department in the mall charges me 20 CDN. Apparently it is not worth to fixing a watch which is not that valuable. I didn't try the tools for changing battery, but I thought it will be good for family crafts.
I recommended this tool set for your family!!
However the price when I bought it was 7.5 CDN, I don't know if it will be different in the future.
