Customers like the fit of the recoil sleeve. They say it fits great, slides right on, and is comfortable. Some mention that the small size fits the Norinco SKS well. The medium size fits Winchester 94 perfect, and the small is great on Win Model 12. The recoilsleef is tight enough to stay in place and provides perfect adjustment to LOP. However, it adds a bit of length to the gun. The opening is large enough that you can see that on the end of the stock.

I don’t get to use the stock on my shotgun that I would like. I have to make a compromise for functionality and portability. So I have a very stiff collapsible arm style stock that is a very unusual size and quite frankly it hurts. It started getting to the point where I didn’t want to use it Unless I was using the 1 3/4” mini shells and those are almost impossible to find now.
There’s some very popular products in the market but I couldn’t get them to fit on the unusual end of the stock that I use. It’s a fold out but stock that is wider than most. I actually tied a block of firm on the end of it one time and tried that out and it felt a lot better so I knew I had to come up with some kind of solution. I found this and it was very reasonably priced and I was pretty much sure it wasn’t gonna work out. This thing is shaped like a traditional stock and I just didn’t think it was gonna fit. But because it came in three sizes I ordered the largest one and figured I would give it a try. Much to my surprise it worked amazingly. The opening is large enough that I can see that on the end of my stock and it stays secure while I’m using the gun.
It looks like it has several different types of honeycomb / baffle structure in their design to absorb the shock and it’s surprisingly effective. Even with 3 inch shells this thing will save your shoulder. I sometimes go shoot with a lady friend of mine who is not a very big person and the one time she tried to use a 12 gauge the results were both frightening and comical. She can actually fire slugs using this. It’s still not her favorite thing but this makes the difference between being able to use it or not at all.
One other thing that’s a little bit funny is that my laser fits perfectly inside of the shock absorber. So when I’m not using it I put the laser inside of the cover to protect it while it’s in the scabbard pouch.
Pretty amazing for twenty bucks.

Helped out a friend who owned the gunsmith shop (Coles in Clearwater, FL), can personally attest to 100's of customers as well as my own use of Pachmayr recoil pads; where Coles was known in five counties for stocking EVERY Pachmayr pad, in brown and black, in all sizes, AND having Pachmayr Pad model for EVERY long gun ever made- not much of a joke here either. Cole is an Expert at installing recoil pads; he's the best I've seen (only one other person who worked there in 1978 when first met Cole comes close- especially when the stock must be cut to keep the Over All Length correct for shooter- to properly install a recoil pad and have it look like the factory installed the pad.
For this pad, recently went looking in my persona parts bin, there were two other Recoil Pads, both brown; however, besides needing (wanting) Black Color,,, for the KelTec KSG pump action shotgun you NEED to buy SMALL size ... which goes on the KelTec KSG like it was designed for it. Something in the order of ten minutes being MORE careful than needed- Less time than typing this Review.
The Pachmayr decelerator pads are durable, plus the edges don't hang up on clothing when mounting the shotgun,, not as much as some pads do- something due to the 'rubber' material Pachmayr uses and the rounded edge design. The Rubber part is a GOOD thing - your shoulder will love you for buying this on any shotgun,,, Pachmayr Decelerator PADS WORK. Beats the heck out of a dinner plate size bruise on your shoulder any day. Have had Pachmayr on a couple dozen shotguns over the years; firing 150 rounds, two 25-round skeet warm-ups, then 100-rounds Sporting Clays in single afternoon without discomfort. Even a lesser recoiling S&W Semi-auto 12ga. you will notice the difference. The KSG, comparing the HARD factory buttpad, adding a Decelerator does wonders.
Using this slip on Pad, does add nearly an inch to the OAL for the trigger pull on the KSG. Doubt if 90% of shooters will have a problem as LOP for KSG trigger is shorter than most shotguns, If you feel trigger pull is ALREADY an issue for being too long; then you may want to look at alternative pads (on KSG I'd have to think on what???).
CUTTING RECOIL ON A SHOTGUN. Couple of choices: You CAN cut recoil in HALF by sending the shotgun to MagNaPort International, who use EDM process to put oval 'PORTS' in the shotgun barrel-( NOTE: spend extra $25-35 and go PIGEON port (more oval holes)) . MagnaPort's PROPORTING will cut HALF the recoil, for sporting clays your recovery time to get back on target is seriously reduced. Also Magnaport works fantastic when you need to cut recoil on handguns and rifles too.
Second for some wood stock shotguns- install a mercury 'DEADMULE' which is nstalled inside the buttstock. ..
Third, least expensive and FIRST that is recommended for cost vs benefit is the recoil pad which I always recommend for any long gun with a KICK, since 'soft' is better pounding on your shoulder than 'hard' is, regardless of how much recoil the shotgun has.
Normally this Reviewer takes away one Star until product has shown durability; however, for a Pachmayr pad,, don't need more time as a couple of decades of experience has PROVED the quality of all Pachmayr recoil pads regardless of model (Decelerator is this reviewers 'Pad' of choice . FIVE stars and recommend to anyone, friend, foe or family. GO WITH PACHMAYR DECELERATOR. On the KSG- BLACK LOOKS BETTER and remember for THE KSG- BUY THE SMALL SIZE. SMALL .. FITS JUST RIGHT.
Reviewer is part time gunsmith with nearly sixty years of shooting experience including competition in many of the shooting sports and for 25yrs+ has been a NRA Certified Firearms Instructor in five areas, including shotgun.
The Bad: Nothing. It doesn't fit my rifle perfectly, but that isn't the pad's fault.
The Final Verdict: A really awesome product at a fair price. Let's face it, recoil pad technology is hardly cutting edge, but it seems that some brands price it that way. This pad is every bit as good as the more expensive [ads I have used, and looks better than any other slip-on pad I have tried. I use this pad on a Chinese Type-53 Mosin Nagant. I am usually a fan of fitted, permanent recoil pads, but I did not want to alter this rile because I like the authentic ugliness and ruggedness of it. I needed the stock to be a bit longer, and I never turn down recoil reduction because I shoot a lot of rounds when I go to the range. The pad made the gun about 1" longer, and made the recoil go from pretty intense to barely noticeable. With just the steel butt plate I could shoot about 40 rounds from a bench before I noticed the recoil becoming uncomfortable. Now I can shoot all day without a bit of discomfort. The pad does not fit perfectly, but it does stay in place just fine, and I think it will fir most rifles much better. The Mosin Nagant butt plate and stock are far from typical in shape and size. I bought the size small, and it is close enough for me. Anything larger would have been a no-go, though.

Edit and update(July 2019):
I sold my single shot in favour of a Mossberg 500 in 12 gauge. I have added this pad to it and the medium size fits nice and snug. It fits better than it did on the CVA and does not slip off as it did occasionally. Looks good on the black stock, and I just test fired it with over 50 rounds of target load, a 1 ounce slug, and 00 buck. No bruising at all, and it makes shooting the Mossberg a real treat. It increases the length of pull a bit, but it still fits me well. I could have shot all day, but the sun went down before I ran out of ammo.
