The beauty of this tool is that the tip is narrow enough and the blade sharp enough to cut off an individual weed that is growing close to something you care about without doing damage to an adjacent shoot. And if you need to cut off a well established clump of Johnson grass, you can attack with the heel of the blade and slice it off at ground level or slightly below with a couple of strokes. The blade is long enough to clean up emerging shoots with a 4" swath. I now carry it with me when I inspect the rose garden and I can reach under a low growing bush far enough to clear out new weeds growing near the base of the plant without any trouble (or pain), and I can cut off a new broad-leaf weed or a tiny spurge growing between two closely spaced alyssum. It is like doing surgical weed removal with little residual damage.
When I am done, I wipe off the blade and run a ceramic rod sharpener across both sides of the edge to remove nicks and true-up the blade. Then put a drop of oil on it and lightly rub both sides to fully cover the exposed steel. It goes back into the factory sleeve (which looks like it should last a few years before I have to make something to replace it) and it hangs up to await the next use. I have had it for a few weeks and have yet to find a weed that it can't handle with the flick of the wrist. I just ordered another one for a friend.
