I am very happy with this tool and feel it was a good value. I was extremely skeptical even after first use as I only used water for this trial run and that didn't do anything. It's not exactly a heavy duty item, but I have determined it IS effective. At first, I thought I had been ripped off; it looks basically like vibrating water. (could I not just shake my item in a can of cleaner?). Well, here is my truthful review based upon running this bugger for THREE DAYS STRAIGHT!
I had several hundred pieces of inherited jewelry I wanted to clean. Some nicer quality, a lot of it just costume. From gold, silver, faux peals, beaded, and so on. All had come from a CHAIN SMOKER's home who also sprayed HAIRSPRAY like crazy after her jewelry was on. The stuff was dull, smelly and dirty, so I didn't have much hope I'd be able to keep any. It didn't help that the cleaning solution I ordered did not come on time. But after a quick google search, I realized I could use a dash of ammonia and a dash of liquid dish detergent in the water. like I said, I ran this little bugger for THREE DAYS straight! Using this machine with that mix of cleaning agents, each piece came out immaculate, AND no smoke odor left. That blew my mind. I ran 7-10 pieces at a time, and would run 2-3 batches thru the same solution (dirty) just to break up the goo, then I'd rinse them well under fresh water, and run them all thru a fresh batch of solution. A few pieces I ran 1-2 more times if I felt they still had an odor or I noticed the water continued to be dirty. Rinsing in between each cycle.
If you put a very dirty piece in clean solution, I found you can actually watch what happens. the dirt just starts "floating" off! The electric vibes running thru the water "gently shake" it all loose. It's simply design, but apparently very effective. Some of the old, very beat up stuff - paint chipped off or beads faded. As far as I was concerned, that just meant it was time to trash that piece. MOST pieces - (95%) came out perfect without any damage. some of this stuff was REALLY old so I was happy that such a small percentage bit the dust.
I'm keeping it and plan to use it for lots of household cleaning.
Anyway, I decided that to clear out my stash of sad looking costume jewelry, I would buy this as a last ditch effort to make it usable. I also bought the Blitz cleaner and used in my first and subsequent runs as I knew the tarnish would be difficult to remove (so I can't comment on just using water yet). The fine jewelry looks amazing. I had a gold, blue topaz tennis bracelet and the machine cleaned into all of the grooves where skin cells and soap and whatever else likes to live. It sparkles and looks fabulous. My costume jewelry mainly depends upon the condition of the finish. Several cheap silver studs cleaned up beautifully, but one that I wore quite a bit still has black marks because I think silver finish is chipped away (from wear not from the machine). On the other hand, a few cheap pieces had unexpectedly great results. I would be cautious about costume jewelry. Obviously, the machine works by small vibrations and it can vibrate things out of their settings. I would assume it's a possibility with any rhinestones, especially the small ones. Those can fall out on their own anyway so I would expect the machine to exacerbate that effect. Another example: I ran through a sentimental piece, a stone pendant with a "gold" setting. It looked aged and I ran it through twice to see what happened. I'm pretty sure the "aging" was a painted effect and it came off. I'm on the fence about whether this improves it or not. It certainly looks cleaner.
I think this machine is very helpful because it's a million times easier and possibly more effective than a polish. I did buy a polishing cloth, but I intended that to aid the machine, not to replace it (it's still in shipment). I really don't like how caustic most silver polish is. It makes a mess too. So, if you're old school, you might not see the need for this machine, but I'm very happy to have it do the work for me and better than I have in the past. It's also a pretty small little thing so storage is not a major concern (I live in a one bedroom so it matters to me).

I've been using this for a few weeks now, and it has functioned flawlessly. The instruction manual is simple (and the poor Chinese to English translation will make you smile), but even without it anyone can figure out how to use this item. Recommended.
