The first thing I did when opening the box and mounting them to a cymbal stand was to de tune the heads, they were cranked so high they choked the resonance out of the drum. The clamp system is high quality, I had to do some experimenting with mounting them, but the mounting system is very flexible. I chose to mount mine over my rack toms.
The only thing I don't like are the snare systems included on the drums. I found them not only to not enhance the beautiful natural sound of the timbale, but the mechanism, a spring with T-Rod that you have to pull out and lock in, is a bit clunky to deal with. They are a bit difficult to engage in the snares "up"position. I simply loosened the nut holding the snares on to the T-Rod and removed the entire assembly. Again, with the snare engaged it just sounded like a choked out, plastic toy drum, and that is not what I was looking for.
I appreciate that someone went to the trouble to make this instrument even more versatile, but it's not my cup of tea. Too hard to engage and the wires, even when in the Tucked" position (Not engaged against the head) take the ring out of the drum..Otherwise, a fine high quality product that I look forward to using.

Gives me a bunch of nice sounds until I can afford to incorporate something like an octapad in it's place.
I will say that it doesn't take the place of bongos. I had them with me in the car when we were playing improptu around the campfire and they didn't replace a pair of bongos well. Same issue with the small drum not singing out and ringing, only worse when hit with a hand instead of a stick.
The mounting bracket clamp allows you to attach these to any 3/8" rod, including hi-hat stands. This makes them conveniently available, yet sufficiently out of your way when the music does not call for this type of sound.
Construction is heavy chrome-plated steel, and the sound is awesome. Mine are mounted on my hi-hat and on my Pearl Rhythm Traveler kit (ASIN: B0002FO4R8), and the 6" and 8" timbales nicely complement the 10" and 12" toms with which that kit is configured. I typically use a modified Pulse piccolo snare (ASIN: B0002F5IVO) with this kit, which has upgraded heads and snare, and the high sound of the snare goes beautifully with the timbale sounds.
