There are a couple of problems with using the DaVinci tool for occipital release. The main one is that if you put it on a bed or massage table to lay back on it, it will sink into the table unevenly, tilting toward your back, rather than toward your head. This will sometimes cause it to move on your neck to an uncomfortable position. While I was hoping to be able to place the tool and leave it there while I work on the legs, instead, I have to manually hold it in the correct position, at least until the client's head has sunk back into the table. With some clients, I can then leave it there and go to work on the legs, but with some, it starts to move into an uncomfortable position when I do. When use the tool on myself it works great on a yoga mat, but I have to manually hold it in position on the bed or massage table, which is not a big deal.
The other problems with using the tool for occipital release are that only the rounded edge is remotely comfortable on the neck. The other two edges are entirely too sharp, even on the softer tool, and this is coming from someone who prefers intense pressure during massage.
I also don't see why one would need the harder blue tool. The red one works just fine and is not overly soft for any sort of self therapy, but then I only weigh 130 lbs., so maybe some people might cause the soft red tool to bend under their weight, as some reviews have suggested.
P.S. This tool gets ride of muscles knots between my shoulder blades that not even massage therapist can get rid of that’s how good it is.

Wish they'd make it softer or have more rounded sides to not just stab the neck.
