Here's why:
- The net is stretchy but holds its shape well.
- Worked in the back of my Subaru Outback like a champ.
- Very versatile. I've used it in several different positions and applications, all with great success!
Tips for use:
- Ditch the sticky pads and find hooks to attach to. The sticky pads fail over time and leave a mess. I ended up attaching mine to some existing bars in the back of my car.
- Use a few small carabiners to close the top of the net. I folded mine in half like a cargo net, so that it could hold things. Then I put a few small carabiners across the top to prevent the two halves from separating. Works great!
- These are the super handy carabiners that I used. They're great to have in the car in general. I've used them a bunch of times for other odd jobs, plus they're super affordable and strong. The corners have loops and the attachments in my suv are loops, so I had to get connectors. I found Cable Cuffs (small) to work really well. I bought them locally and they are pretty cheap. Another possibility is those fake caribiner clips (cheaper than the real ones, but still work well for this).
The net comes with some "hooks" that you can install, but I don't think they would work in my car. On a shelf or something like that, they might work well.
I bought this to replace the old cargo net I used to be sure my 85# dog doesn't fly up into the front seats when I have to stop suddenly. I knew it wouldn't be super quality based on the price but I saw that others were using it for a pet restraint and thought it would be worth a trial. Not good. My old cargo net was one that came with my Nissan so I figured it wasn't top of the line either. But the differences were significant. The Nissan net has a binding on all four sides. That seems to help the net maintain it's overall shape. The elastic cords on the Nissan net are significantly heavier than the ones on this net. The Nissan net lasted 3 years before it got really stretched out of shape. After 2 days, this net was stretched out of shape and has not rebounded. To be fair, my dog likes to use the net as a "hammock" to some extent. He lies right next to it and kind of rests against it. After a few days, it was so stretched out, he could lie on the bottom of it while resting against the upper part. I assume that is quite a stress on the net. It still functions as a barrier to him sliding forward when I stop suddenly but it's not attractive hanging there all stretched out.
In a nutshell, it would probably function fine for lightweight cargo and dogs. It just wasn't made to be a hammock for an 85# dog.
