Installation:
It took me about an hour to install (but I was working at a very leisurely pace). It super easy to install, most of the work is in cutting the supply hose to the proper length. Since I was replacing one almost just like it I was able to put the 2 hoses side by side and make it look exactly like my original. But I would think even not having the original hose to compare with it would have only take a bit longer. Next I attached the hose to the pool cleaner tube at the top and hand tightened the nut. Then I replaced the universal wall fitting. Using channel locks I unscrewed the original one and than replaced with the new one. I probably didn't need to replace it but since I had the new one I went ahead anyway.Next I installed the bag ( I used the one we had just replaced from our old cleaner as it was pretty new, now I have a spare). After that, I dropped it in the pool and turned the pressure pump on and it was off and running.
Cleaning:
I have 5 palm trees that have started dropping little seeds that are driving us crazy. This cleaner does an amazing job of cleaning those up. I run my cleaner for about 3 hours a day. Those seeds also get in the hot tube which is attached to the pool, but we found an item on Amazon that looks like a big windshield sunshield (you know the big hoop that you can twist into a very small size). Here's the link https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FT6GH3Y/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 .
Durability:
Speaking from past history, the one I am replacing I had for 13 years and only had to replace the debris bag (several as they only last a season or 2), tires (probably 3 times), wheel bearings (1 time), the sweep tube (1 time), and the backup valve (1 time). If you keep the unit maintained it will last for quite a while.
Pros:
- Has 4 wheels which makes it very stable.
- Very easy to setup.
- Cost, I paid $450 on Amazon which is a bargain compared to what the pool stores are charging for the 3 wheeled ones like a Polaris
- Uses almost all of the same parts as my old one
Cons:
- Parts are on the expensive side (but that's with all pool equipment)
All in all this is a great pool cleaner and I highly recommend it!
Pros: its hauls butt(according to my friend who has another brand cleaner), does not lay over, has not got stuck on stairs, goes up the walls easy, cleans large leaves and twigs, backup on it works well, has a large bag.
Cons: It is a bit difficult to reattach the hoses back on when you first cut them to the proper length but that is about all that is hard on setting it up.
Things you might want to keep in mind when you are setting up... make sure your booster pump is working good that means turn it on and if you can't hold your hand on the water outlet or stop the water then you should be good. Clean the basket where it connects to the wall often otherwise it will not get the water pressure you need and it will look like a dead fish in the water. Also remember that your pool filter needs to be fairly clean so the added positive pressure from your main pump can help the booster pump pressure. The directions say lay the hose in the sun for a day so it will straighten out I didn't and its a bit curled up but if you bend it the opposite direction it will straighten out not a big deal. I would recommend leaving the rear jet pointing straight out too but follow the directions if your Kreepy starts doing wheelies point it a bit down. Remember it might not get all the leaves in an hour but most of them and I am fine with that.
This cleaner replaced a similarly designed 10+ year old Pentair Letro Legend Platinum which came with the pool, but whose glory days were now memories. In the Letro's healthier years I was happy with its service, and always liked the four-wheel design, versus three on Polaris models. The Letro rarely tipped on its side unless the ballast-bulb needed replacement or the debris bag was too full. One of my concerns, based on some reviews here, was the ability of the LL505G to climb the steep incline in my pool, where it transitions from deep to shallow ends. The older Letro had two jets in the back to assist its climb, compared to only one on the LL505G, yet it still became challenged with cleaning sections of the shallow end (especially as it aged). I was concerned that the LL505G’s single jet would not be sufficient for the task (or would it?..read on..).
The package arrived with everything necessary; the Kreep Krauly cleaner, 30ft of feeder hose with floats, a debris bag, and the wall fitting valve (booster pump sold separately). Since the Amazon description does not include a full contents listing, I mistakenly bought an extra wall fitting valve, since it was “recommended” under the “Frequently bought together” category below the LL505G. Don’t make that mistake. The valve, btw, is a step-up from its predecessor (Letro era) in that it has quick disconnect ability that allows easy access to the filter screen inside (which I never knew existed, so didn’t know to keep clean).
The feeder hose(s) need to be custom fit (cut) to accommodate individual pool dimensions. In that regard, I mostly followed the detailed instructions that came with the LL505G, and it took me about an hour. However, following the instructions, the hose would have ended up four feet shorter than the older cleaner hose, so I split the difference and kept an extra two feet, just to assure it wouldn't come up too short. It can be trimmed later if necessary, but I like the way it turned out.
Once installed, and booster pump engaged, the LL505G took off running. Compared to my elder Letro, this cleaner ran like a fit teenager, doing acrobatics that the Letro had forgotten long ago. It traversed the steep pool incline reasonably well, in large part due to its front-wheel drive, and although it still prefers the deep end (gravity), it covers all parts of the pool (even hopping onto the steps occasionally, crazy kid). It climbed walls to the water line, which the Letro never did, and the tail wagged like a happy puppy as it churned and loosened winter sediment that had collected on the pool bottom. Ah, youth!
While I worked elsewhere in the yard, it zig-zagged around the pool trying to impress me, and within a few hours it had sucked up all the pool-bottom debris (silt, sand, and leaves). Although I've only run it once so far, my new pool buddy definitely earned its Scooby snack on its maiden voyage. I expect it will live up to the "Legend" of its predecessor. Thumbs up!
