I recently purchased the 1980s Monopoly board game from Amazon, and my feelings about it are a bit of a rollercoaster. Let’s break it down:Pros:Aesthetic Appeal: The board itself looks fantastic. The nostalgic design takes me back to childhood game nights, and the vibrant colors evoke a sense of excitement.Packaging: Kudos to the packaging team! The game arrived in pristine condition. No dented corners or crushed edges—just a neat, well-protected box.Cons:Folding Fiasco: Now, here’s where things get tricky. The board is supposed to fold in two, right? Well, mine decided to defy convention and fold into quarters. Yes, you read that correctly—four sections instead of two. It’s like Monopoly met origami, and the result is… perplexing.Sadness Quotient: Despite the visual appeal and careful packaging, I can’t shake off the disappointment. Every time I unfold the board, I’m reminded of its rebellious folding behavior. It’s like having a well-dressed guest at a party who insists on doing the worm dance move—it’s unexpected and leaves you feeling a tad deflated.Final Verdict:The 1980s Monopoly board game is a mixed bag. If you’re a collector or a die-hard Monopoly fan, the quirky folding might even add character. But if you’re a stickler for tradition (like me), prepare for a few raised eyebrows during game nights.Would I recommend it? Well, that depends on your tolerance for unconventional folding methods. If you’re up for a conversation starter and don’t mind your board games breaking the mold (literally), give it a shot. Otherwise, consider other options.Remember, life—and board games—are full of surprises. Maybe this Monopoly board just wanted to stand out from the crowd. 🎩🏠🎲

As a child of the 80s this was the game I wanted to share with my preteen. I was amazed at how many varieties of Monopoly there are now (over 300+!). It was just too much, so we went with the classic from my childhood.

It is great! Really enjoying the bankers tray to organize the monopoly money and for storage between games.

Great purchase! Lots of game night fun!

What is there to say that has not already been said? This is a great family game that all can play. I have played this since I was a child and still love to play this game.

5.0 out of 5 stars High Quality Game, Superior to Recent Versions
Reviewed in Canada on January 30, 2023
This is very close to being exactly like the Monopoly that I learned to play on, back around ‘88 or so. That game had differently coloured Chance and Community Chest cards, and it had the iron token. Besides those minor differences, this game is the same.
The quality here is far superior to the $20ish current game you can buy at a toy store. The board folds in half and lays perfectly flat, as opposed to the cheaper games released recently with boards that fold in quarters. The cards and deeds are printed on nice thick card stock. The included money tray makes the banker’s job very easy. Tokens are metal, and are the classics I remember, like the wheelbarrow. You won’t find any cats or rubber duckies here.
I do wish the $500 and $100 bills had a slightly greater colour difference, to make a mixup less likely. And I’d prefer that the Chance and Community Chest cards had markings on the back to indicate which is which. Other than that, I think this is perfect.
I paid just under $50 for this and I consider it a worthy investment. I have purchased some classic board games, like Clue, that have been manufactured recently and I can tell you they do not hold up. The boards that fold in quarters tent up in the middle and they break easily with repeated use, and the thin flimsy cards quickly become ragged.
The cheap versions have their place. If you aren’t sure you’ll play it much, starting with the recently released Monopoly is reasonable. If you know you’ll be playing this game frequently, though, definitely invest in this one.

I couldn't believe how hard it was to find the orignal version the Monopoly, thank goodness it was available online. It's a classic great quality and we've had many fun nights playing it. Nice solid pieces and good solid board.

The community and chance cards are not original colours. The game pieces are not as heavy as I remember them being but that's like most things these days, thin/flimsy, cheaper. Overall I'm happy with it. I enjoy playing the game with the pieces that I grew up with.
