My husband has celiac disease and I really wanted to have a mil that could beat the rice down with zero grit. I wanted something easy to clean and able to give me silky whole wheat pastry flour without a fuss. Despite reading that many people had issues with flour flying all over the place, this has not been my experience. Is it loud? Yes. But what do you expect? It's a very powerful motor made of metal. Did it make a mess? No. If you're afraid of that happening, cover it with a dishcloth while milling and BOOM, problem solved. I like the idea of one review that mentioned using a hair dryer to clean it after use since the flour is so fine and therefore can be a little static-y. This baby is a work horse and I'm so looking forward to many years of milling my own whole wheat pastry flour as well as any kind of gf flour to make my family culinary delights.
For improvements, perhaps somehow incorporate a handle so that users do not accidentally break off parts. Perhaps a better guard to keep grains from flying out. It is already a very good product so these improvements would make it even better.
You don't have to be a prepper to appreciate the value of an electric grain mill. Anyone who wants to provide a healthier alternative to store-brought breads for their family but needs to stay within a budget will love the Blendtec Mill.
Pros
There are several mills to choose from, most of which are honestly much more than I can afford. Blendtec solved that problem for me. It's been the perfect mid-range, cost-effective mill for my needs and I couldn't be happier. I paid close to $180 for this mill when the average is over $200 and even upwards of $400 for other grain mills, though admittedly the prices seem to have fallen on the others since I purchased this one.
I've used this for hard red and white wheat and soft white wheat. There are a range of settings for a more coarse flour to a pastry flour setting. I've used them all with success in making hearty and lighter wheat bread and waffles. I'm having fun experimenting with my whole wheat recipe books. This mill is easy to operate and clean. It also comes with an extra filter. It's very fast. I can get 2-4 cups of flour in under 2 minutes.
Cons
The biggest con is the noise. This is an understandable issue and one where I have to admit that you're probably getting what you pay for as there are quieter mills on the market that come with a higher price tag. Also, you can't do nut butters with this mill. I have noticed that some flour escapes during milling. It's not a lot and not too big of a deal to clean up but it is an extra step. I give this product a 4-star rating out of 5, only knocking one off because of the noise and flour escape.

result. I believe that this machine will give many years of good service.
The instruction booklet doesn't have a lot of info in it and then there is the price.
These grain mills are way over priced for the quality of the product.
I 'm sure if there was more competition, the price would come waaaaaay down in a hurry.
That being said, I am glad that I have it and will just have to hope that it will stand the test of time.
