Some negative reviews complained about leaks: I have not seen this problem. All I can say is unless you get a defective unit and if you know how to put thread tape on (supplied), you should have no leaks. I can charge the compressor to 110 psi and if I don't use it, the next day it is still at 110 psi.
Some negative reviews also complained about noise: Yes, it is loud. However, it is no louder than I expected. The reviews made it sound like I would need ear protection to work around it. All I can think is that there was something wrong with their compressor, or they never listen to their music on 11...ever. :-)
I purchased this for a nail gun. It does an excellent job. I get 40 or more nails on a 110 psi charge and it takes under 6 minutes to go from empty to 110 psi. The light weight makes it easy to move as work progresses. After 40 or so nails, a quick coffee break while it recharges. A great little compressor and it is an outstanding price.
I don't know how well it will work for other types of applications, but for home projects, specifically nail gun projects, it is perfect. I am impressed and I give it my endorsement!
So to the others who have yet to buy it and have read the reviews and are wondering if they should...
I read the reviews before buying it but then I also looked at what I needed it for. We re-trimmed our home (doors, floors, and windows) and needed it to mount the trim. We did not want to borrow from friends (you know how that can go). We also knew that we did not want to spend a lot of money on something that we would rarely use again. So price was a big factor.
I was worried about what I read in the reviews but I bought it anyhow since I know that most people don't write reviews unless they are unhappy with something.
We got it delivered to us here in Alaska and unpacked it. WE READ THE DIRECTIONS on priming it for 30 minutes before use. We check to make sure the vents/valves were closed, and we threaded everything correctly... GUESS WHAT??? IT WORKED GREAT!!!
It is noisy but air compressors are noisy. We set it outside on the deck and let it run for the 30 mins that it called for before use and then closed the valves to let it charge with air. Once we began charging it with air pressure it only took about 5 mins to fill up. It then shut off and we probably did not use it for about an hour while we prepped the work area. It did not come on at all during that time and the PSI was still holding at the same amount we choose. It is very light and not a big deal to charge it on one room, bring it into another, nail several brads before you need to charge it up again in another room. (everyone finds what works best for them). Charging a half charged tank took almost no time at all. We even left it fully charged over night, to see what we would find in the morning. It was fine. We lost no air pressure in 12+ hours.
So... I was worried about what the other reviews said, but I am glad that I bought it. For us... it worked great. No hissing, No leaks, held PSI's overnight, it is light and easy to use.
Some people complained about the air hose... It is not an expensive air-hose but I was not something that I would have complained about. If you were going to use this compressor for air brushing I would get a more flexible hose and if I was going to do something like paint a car or want to use air actuated tools....well... I would not buy this air compressor. You need to know your job and know what tools will get your job done.
1) it is a bit loud. But this isn't a big deal, since I'm always outside when blowing things off.
2) it's a bit slow to fill the tank
I've not had much experience with these tanks/compressors, so this might be normal. Also, the tank isn't very big, so it will need to cycle on often. And since it takes a while to fill the tank, expect to take breaks from your work while the tank fills.
All in all, I have no regrets.

It came with the fittings and Teflon tape you will need to start (fitting threads). The air gun is not "the best" but it works good enough and I read some people buy this for cleaning computers although I would not recommend that as it needs to refill often if you are using it for that purpose. It works, but it will need to refill in about 30 seconds. If you know that and are OK with that, then good to go; I'd just get a larger one or a quieter one.
The unit is NOT quiet. It's a compressor and sounds like one. It's the same loudness as most small air compressors and tire inflators. Wear ear plugs/safety gear if you are working indoors (like you should) - no big deal.
Some noise you should expect anyway - it' a power tool, not a puppy
The unit works 100% perfectly.
I had no leaks, no surprises, gauges and valves all work like they should, etc. I left the unit with 80 pounds in it over night for testing and it was all there in the morning; Excellent.
Great little compressor to do some upgrade work around the house and a few things outside I haven't even thought of yet but my wife will, I am sure ;)
Completely recommended - I'm pleased.
