I think of myself as a savvy shopper, so I did my research before buying this. I even looked at the IPEVO's Ziggi. The reason I went with this one is because it was slightly less expensive and could be detached from the stand. I teach high school English and hook this up to my computer, which is docked and connected to a SMARTboard. Long past are the days of passing around a single example or holding it up without the students being able to see the details. I've used ELMOs during my time in college, and while they were nice with the extra light, the price is outrageous. I'd give the quality on this camera an 9/10. It could be a little better and gets slightly grainy when zooming in, but you should move the stand rather than zoom in! I did notice the 'auto focus' wasn't worth keeping on. If I moved it a bit or the light changed it would lose focus for a second or two before coming back into focus. Simply turning the 'auto' off solves the problem and gives a continuous clear picture.
Here is my breakdown of the product:
Pros: Sturdy base, easily adjustable arm, good quality picture, easy software to install and use, USB connection is fast, and zoom works well.
Cons: Stand is kind of short, can't view a whole document unless the stand is 'perched', it feels cheap, no attached light for viewing
I'd highly recommend checking out the IPEVO website. It has solid videos showing the product and also showing how you can 'perch' the stand on its box or a stack of books in order to see a full 8x11 document. I thought this was going to be a big deal, but I am usually zooming in on a paragraph so the kids can read it on the SMARTboard anyways. A full document on the SMARTboard is hard to read on Microsoft Word, much less a doc cam. It works well in real time, showing revision marks and sample writing as well. What a joy to show students the pleasures of writing and editing! I gave this 5/5 stars because it is an inexpensive, small, and yet versatile document camera that truly is perfect for the classroom.

Think Elmo at an affordable price point
For presentations, I periodically need to have a document camera. I was even planning on concocting a stand to hold a MicroSoft WebCam until I came across this beauty. It has very high resolution (see the 3 pictures I posted on Amazon's page to get a better idea), focus to within 2" of target, a serviceable software interface, is easily portable, and has a very favorable price point, especially when compared to other document cameras (and I speak from experience, having used very pricey Elmos on occasion). The only criticism I have is that it does not have built in lighting, a bit surprising since many WebCams now have dimmable LED lighting integrated in. The software provides more control options than most, with my favorite feature being set once focus (there is also a button on the camera to trigger this), which eliminates the problem of focus resetting at slightest provocation.My OS is Windows 7 and installation was trivial. Software is supplied on CD, or if like me you don't have an optical drive, it can be downloaded from the P2V website. One more thing that might be of interest, I often need to project the image of a device with a color touch screen, something cameras often have trouble with. This one has ample settings for making that work, especially when you place it in close (think iPhone). For my travel I ponied up for the manufacturer's travel case (about $20), well worth the added cost. It takes good stills, but if you want movies you will need third party software, something I prefer since I have an arsenal of cameras for various purposes.
