Product Description
Pool Patrol PA-30 Pool Alarm
The POOL PATROL Alarm is intended to be an additional layer of security to protect your loved ones. The POOL PATROL Alarm is not intended as a life saving device and is not intended to replace any other safety considerations such as: adult supervision, lifeguards, fences, gates, pool covers, locks, etc. The POOL PATROL Alarm may not detect gradual entry into the pool.
This model has a transmitter and receiver. It is intended to alert you at the pool of any intrusion and will transmit to a receiver located nearby.
The PA-30 is ASTM F-2208-08(2019) compliant.
PA-30 contents
- Floating Alarm (Transmitter)
- Receiver with Power Supply
- String Kit (String with two black plastic hooks
IMPORTANT
Turning off the alarm in your pool will not deactivate the receiver alarm inside your house. Turning off the receiver inside your house will not turn off the alarm in your pool.
Sensitivity Adustment
Turning the black flotation base clockwise or counterclockwise raises or lowers the sensing ring with respect to the water. stops. Do not force it. This is the most sensitive position and the position that was used to pass ASTM testing. Moving the float from this position will no longer meet ASTM requirements The closer the sensing ring is to the water, the more sensitive the alarm. Turn the black flotation base gently clockwise until it.
Sensitivity Marks
The “Sensitivity Marks” can be used as a general indicator for the sensitivity position. Should the sensitivity need to be adjusted start making adjustments by turning the float only a ¼ turn at a time. Test the alarm after each adjustment. We do not recommend turning the float out more than three full turns.
TROUBLESHOOTING
Pool alarm will not work.
Low or missing battery. Replace battery with a new 9V alkaline.
Pool alarm makes a chirp sound occasionally.
The battery voltage may be low. Replace battery with a new 9V alkaline.
Pool alarm was working and now it is not.
Oxidation can build up on the sensing post. Lightly clean with steel wool.
Pool alarm gives false alarms.
Check that the alarm is not near the filter, pump or jets. Be sure the filter inlet
is pointed downward.
Water can be heard inside pool alarm.
Remove battery and return the pool alarm and receiver to Posthaste
Electronics for service.
The LED on the receiver does not light.
Be sure wall transformer is plugged into a 110VAC outlet and the power
jack is plugged into the receiver. Check that the ON/OFF switch is ON.
Receiver is turned on but does not work when the pool alarm is
triggered.
Receiver may be too far from the alarm. Relocate. Receiver may be in a
building with metal siding or with foil insulation. Relocate near a window.
Alarm sounds for no apparent reason.
A neighbor may have the same alarm.
Place the receiver in ID mode and train the transmitter to the receiver.
Alarm Placement for pools 20x40 ft or smaller
One pool alarm can be used for all pool types. This includes aboveground, in-ground, inflatable and soft side pools.
Alarm Placement for pools larger then 20x40 ft
It is recommended that more than one alarm should be used in pools larger than 20x40 ft.
One alarm
Multiple alarms
RECEIVER
Your receiver works with the pool alarm allowing you to monitor your pool from within your house. When the floating alarm is activated it sends a signal to activate the receiver.
Transmission Modes
The receiver has two modes of operation: Serial Number mode (SN mode) and ID mode. When the receiver is in SN mode it will accept the transmission of any Pool Patrol transmitter (this is the default setting). The serial number is common to all transmitters. When the receiver is in ID mode it will accept the serial number plus the ID number of the transmission. The ID number is unique to each transmitter.
RECEIVER PLACEMENT
It is best to place the receiver next to a window or wood door adjacent to the pool with-in 200 feet from the transmitter. Do not place the receiver near steel walls, cabinets, on or alongside an electrical appliance, such as a computer, or on a metal surface as this may affect signal reception. The pool alarm will not transmit its signal through the ground.

Packaging: Nice big box that protects it well. Easy to open and remove product. Not unnecessary layers of foam and plastic.
Documentation: Excellent, covers everything that you need to know. Normally I'm a "I'll play with it and figure it out" type person, and this is by no means a complicated product, but it is important that it is installed and used properly so just read the booklet, lives could literally depend on it.
Build quality: It appears well built. Nice thick foam gasket sealing the battery in held in place with two large screws. Upper and lower parts thread apart nicely, tolerances are right with no scraping or tightness.
Installation: Simple and straight forward if you read the document first. Install the battery, plug in receiver, adjust the sensitivity and test a few times, find the right placement, set up string to tether it in place, all done.
Tips:
Get an alkaline 9v battery to have on hand for it.
Install the tether anchors when sides are dry, which they won't be after testing so do it before or wait till it's dry.
When doing the initial testing to set the sensitivity, turn off the receiver to avoid driving everyone nuts. Both the float and the receiver make sound, no need for them both to scream over and over while testing.
Have a flip flop or something handy to simulate hands splashing. Throwing your toddler in repeatedly will anget the wife, despite you yelling "it's for science!" everytime. Plus the warranty doesn't cover the cost of therapy for the trust issues you create with said toddler. Good luck and be safe!
Everyone with a backyard pool, even a frame set or other soft sided pool, should have a pool alarm to protect those around the pool and any unexpected visitors. This is a great alarm, the price is reasonable, and it works as described. We are very happy with our purchase.
This pool alarm has an adjustment for sensitivity which I'm not sure is 100% accurate but I tried it anyways. There is an indoor alarm along with the actual blue pool unit they both make a high pitch sound which can be heard in my whole home (5000sqft ranch). It sometimes goes off unexpectedly which is annoying especially at night but I would rather this happen than not at all.
Pros:
1. works well enough
2. Sound is very loud inside and outside
3. High pitch sound comes from both units
Cons:
1. Very sensitive even though it's adjusted
2. Price I think Is a little much for this
3. traps a lot of pool debris on top of pool
4. sometimes needs a very BIG splash to make it go off, and sometimes it goes off with wind...seems pretty finicky

We have just acquired a "Pool Patrol PA-30" as an alarm system to put in our swimming pool because we have 3 young grandchildren. When I received the package I was very disappointed not to have the instruction manual in French because you will agree that it is very important to understand how well to use the product. Even if I understand English well when I hear it, I find that technical explanations are easier when it's in your native language. Finding this gap too important, I decided to translate the manual into French because if you have to setup the alarm at each season, as you get older, you don't always remember the instructions...
