The replacement came the next day (I am very pleased with the whole return process with Amazon, that's a big reason why I bought it here). The replacement arrived, again in the original B&D box, but not nearly as damaged. The blade was only bent a bit, it was easy to bend back and it seemed to work ok so I decided to keep it.
I tried it out first on a very overgrown privet hedge, then some junipers, small tree branches, and rose bushes. My 17 year old son was aching to play with it too, so he gave it a shot. Did better with it than I did, so another plus! I was very pleased with the performance. Easy to use and does not take much practice or skill to do a good job. Also glad I got this 24-inch, rather than the 22-Inch that I was seriously considering (HT512 has more powerful motor and lower price than the HH2455). The HH2455 has a 3.3 amp motor (compared to the HT512 with 3.8 amps) but seems to have no problem cutting ¾ inch or more branches so the power is fine. The longer reach is more important to me since I have to reach high and far for some trimming, so the extra 2 inches makes a big difference. Also easier to reach lower when trimming near the ground - don't have to bend as much.
The dual action blades work well and cut clean and quick, and the whole unit has low vibration and good balance- a good design - it feels good in the hands if you know what I mean. The rotating handle is very useful too - it has locking position at 0, +/- 50, and +/- 90 degrees (refer to the product video). I also liked that the power switch can be locked on, so you don't always have to clutch the on switch to keep it running when reaching far or at difficult angles. This trimmer also has the power cord retention tab so you don't have to tie a knot with the power cord, you just hook the power cord on the tab and it stays. Overall, this trimmer seems well made and I expect it to last a long time. And a 2-year warranty too.
I only used this trimmer once this year so far, and it's already cleaned up and hung in the garage till next year. I'm not sure when/if/how I'll need to sharpen the blades. But I did not notice any degraded cutting performance from when I started to when I finished trimming, so was pleased at least this far. On the one hand, the blades are not bomb proof, but they do not appear to be cheaply made either. The blades and bar are pretty solid and heavy duty enough for a trimmer.
On the negative side, other than the shipping container issue, I noticed that the 0 degree handle position does not lock as solidly as the other positions. The 0 degree handle position does not lock firmly, there still is a bit of sloppiness, maybe like +/- 3 degrees - just enough to notice and make me wonder if something is worn or not adjusted quite right with the handle rotation mechanism. Not a big deal though, I did not even notice it while trimming.
The 2450 (Silver/orange/black) body performed outstandingly, until it just finally stopped like an old tired, worn-out horse!
Of course, I take care of all of my equipment and conduct some Pre & Post-maintenance, ie, like Pre/Post Lubrication, adjusting & cleaning blades, so to prevent any Debris or Rust buildup, since we live close to the ocean, where rust is viral.
2 days ago I put this new one, the 2455 through the paces for 5 ours straight, by trimming a very large (6-foot wide by almost 6-foot tall), overgrown, long (50-foot) hedge row + an over-grown, open lot, right next door, with a population of small tree saplings, from 1/4 to 3/4-inch in diameter, although I did notice that you have to let the blades cut on their own when using on 3/4-inch saplings. Motor: 3.3 Amp.
Pro's - It's A No Brainer! For Moderate to Light-Heavy use x 1 to 5 hours continuously; this trimmer is Perfect. Otherwise, your arms may start rebelling beyond that, but that also depends on the cutter's conditioning, endurance, and weather conditions, FYI.
1. Excellent Trimmer like the old 2450. Slices and dices like butter! Warning - it works so well that during my ground sweeps, I accidentally cut through the electric cord, without noticing until it suddenly just stopped. I thought that the electric cord had dis-engaged, or that I threw a breaker.
Nope! It was the cord, which is exactly what happened the first time I used the old 2450 for the first time too!
2. Longer reach + adjustable handle positions.
3. Electric power and Light-weight.
4. If well-maintained, can last more than 5 working years.
5. Two-year B&D warranty
5. Good price!
Con’s - Minor
1. No blade removal wrench included for either the Trimmer, and/or, was ever included with the 2450 Replacement blades.
2. The built-in Cord Retention system built into the back of the handle to avoid accidental unplugging is not as good as the one on the HT22 or my old HH 2450; as my electric cord fell out a few times during my use.
Comment - A 4 AMP Motor would definitely be a perfect match-up for this trimmer, and make it a bit more useful when cutting 3/4 + saplings. Perhaps B&D could release an XL Version and called it the 250-x - XL. Before you do B&D, send me one for Beta-testing ( ;
Cheers!
