The box was fairly large. I'm not sure how heavy it was, as I'm 8 months pregnant and not lifting. It was very easy to put together. I sat in the floor in my nursery and put it together very quickly. It's just a few screws and an Allen wrench. You'll need a Philips head screwdriver, though.
The first thing I put together was the ottoman. The glide on it is exceptionally smooth. The only thing that you "put together" on it is attaching the cushion with 4 screws. The cushion is very thick and the "leather" is smooth and attractive. It has a nice feature that the description doesn't list. It has "leather" flaps on the side that secure to the ottoman to protect you from the moving mechanisms inside. Thoughtful.
The glider was just as easy to assemble. 2 long screws secure the back to the sides. I checked every single welded area on the glider. They were welded well for the type of metal involved. The only part that concerned me was the support slats for the bottom and back. They are thin metal bands that bend when manipulated. They are welded to the sides (I included pictures under customer images). I showed this to someone who works with metal. They reassured me that even though this looks like a weak area, it was much stronger than I could give it credit for. They said around 300 lbs might be pushing it for durability, though. I looked everywhere for weight restrictions on the glider, but couldn't find anything. I weigh 115 lbs and my husband is around 200 lbs, so I don't think this will be an issue for us, but felt it important to mention as the manufacturer doesn't give any guidelines.
The padded arms are thick and secure in place with 4 screws total. I didn't have any issues with the side pockets looking or being poorly sewn. They don't "fall open." Granted, the pockets aren't tight, but they aren't unattractive in my opinion. The cushions are amazingly thick! I was shocked. It's soft, and the "leather" is smooth. It doesn't look like pleather, leatherette, or bonded leather at all. They did an amazing job of making it look and feel like top grain leather (just missing that new leather smell). It is in our safari-themed nursery, and it fits in well with the decor. It's very classy-looking, and would look great in an office/study (our plans for it after the nursery) or a living room with the right color scheme. It's also very comfortable. The glide is smooth and effortless. It reclines back perfectly for me. I don't want a glider that reclines to almost a flat position. I want to be able to recline just far enough to rest my head and be able to fall asleep if I wanted. This reclines to that exact position. It locks via side handle in whichever position you prefer and continues to rock in the locked position. I'm 5'2" and feel like I fit perfectly. On the other end, my husband is 6'1" and he seems to fit in it perfectly, as well. He can rest his head on the back when he reclines. It's such a versatile glider.
*** 3 year update: I STILL love this glider! It is still performing just as it did when brand new. There were some rather noisy squeaks that developed after a few months of rocking a baby every night, but they were easily resolved with lubricatuon to the mechanical parts. It's metal, people. Mechanical metal requires lubrication. It's no different than door hinges or car parts; the more it's used, the more lubricant needed. It has sustained many hours through many nights of rocking without fail. Keep in mind, this is not a living room furniture piece for me. It is used in a child's bedroom, which means it hasn't been used daily in the sense of getting up, sitting down, getting up, sitting down day after day. So, that may be a contributing factor in its longevity for us. The cushions do not even appear worn, three years later!
