Harpoon review, I mean a bed step!

Harpoon review, I mean a bed step!
Thins thing is awesome!I sanded it lightly with sandpaper and sprayed 4 layers of bed liner. Now it has a solid, non-slip feel.Harpoon, I mean a bed step, was secured with 5/8-11 x 4" Grade 8 USS Coarse Yellow Zinc Finish Hex Cap Screw-Partially Threaded with corresponding washers and nut from US Bolt Kits. To make it more semi-permanent I also used red loctite since I don’t tow.I still had a bit of wiggle from side to side and adding CZC AUTO Hitch Clamp Anti-Rattle Stabilizer completely secured the step. This thing definitely keeps tailgaters away now 😀

5.0 out of 5 stars ***Excellent Bumper Protector With The Added Benefit Of A Step***

***Excellent Bumper Protector With The Added Benefit Of A Step***

In all honesty I bought this primarily as a bumper protector.

Here in Chicago we have plenty of idiots who just think it is a normal thing to lightly hit you in traffic or while parallel parking.

But the bumpers on vehicles today are completely plastic over the steel and even a small hit can cause major damage and be very expensive especially if you have proximity sensors.

Well...now these careless drivers can run into this instead and see what happens.

This unit is VERY heavy duty and solid the whole way through. I was quite impressed when I lifted the box it came in and felt how heavy it was.

And yes...the step function is also very sturdy. The step can be a bit slippery when wet but I think I'll follow the other reviewer's advise and apply an anti-slip covering to it.

The only other small complaint is that it is a bit small for a 2" receiver and fits a bit loose as other commentators have pointed out with their negative reviews. But this is a rather small complaint if you ask me and giving a 1-Star for it is petty. Anything inserted into the receiver is going to be smaller and rattle a bit. Hence do yourself a favor and get a Hitch Titan at the same time. Even if this step was a bit bigger you would probably still want something like this to silence the annoying rattle for this or anything you insert for that matter. Rock Solid & No Rattle. Here is the link...

[[ASIN:B01IO2N44E The Hitch Titan Hitch Tightener | Anti-Rattle Hitch Pin Reduces Noise and Swaying | For Use with 1.25" or 2" Tow Hitch Receivers | Made of Heavy-Duty Black Powder Coated Steel]]

Check out my photos here.

That arrowhead shape with the backup camera looks pretty cool...lines right up and points in the direction you are backing.

If anybody ever whacks this thing I'll be sure to update the review and add some more photos of what the other person's care looks like!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent accessory, but needed modification
Reviewed in the United States on June 10, 2017
Got this step to make it easier to get into my Ford E350 Econoline Van's rear doors. Very heavy duty, weighs 15 lbs. As others have noted, there were two things I wanted to change about it. There was another safety thing I added too.

It has a slick glossy surface, making it a bit unsafe as received. I bought a package of Slip Guard, non-slip tape 6 x 18. It was the exact size I needed. I'll use the other pieces of non slip tapes around the house. I took off the backing, laid it carefully on top of the step, and used a utility knife to trim the non slip tape from the bottom.

The step was very loose in the hitch receiver. I took some black duct tape, and wrapped it around the male part of the hitch. One wrap position was on the other side of the lock holes, The other wrap was positioned on the other side of the lock holes. I kept adding layers of tape to the two positions until the step fit in snuggly. The picture shows the position of the tape. I added another 3 layers after taking that picture. The step is still a little loose, but much tighter than it was and when it moves, it doesn't make any noise.

Because the hitch receiver and the step are positioned low, and it's black, I was afraid that a driver behind me wouldn't be able to see it at night. So I added some reflective tape, different colors on the back side of the step.
If any of the tape begins to come loose, I'll just sand the step a little and use some contact cement or E6000 to stick it back on.
