Advantage II Large Cat flea treatment and prevention kills adult fleas, flea larvae and flea eggs to deliver total flea protection to your cat or kitten. Within 12 hours of application, Advantage II Large Cat topical treatment gets straight to work killing fleas through contact, so they don’t have to bite your cat to die. This treatment works hard for 30 days following application, effectively breaking the flea life cycle, controlling existing flea infestations and preventing further infestations all month long.
Fleas not only cause discomfort; they can also pose other health risks. Monthly use of Advantage II Large Cat is important to protect your cat against fleas that may cause transmission of tapeworms, Flea Allergy Dermatitis and flea bite anemia.
That’s why Advantage II Large Cat makes applying treatment simple. This convenient, spot-on application goes on the back of your cat’s neck at the base of the skull. Biting fleas are more than just a nuisance for your cat. Left unchecked, they can cause serious disorders such as flea allergy dermatitis, secondary skin infections, tapeworms, and even anemia. This topical flea treatment stops fleas before they become a problem. Providing a full month of protection, it begins working in minutes, killing 98-100% of the fleas on cats within 12 hours, and 99% of flea larvae within 20 minutes. Plus, since dead fleas can't lay eggs and dead larvae can't hatch, the flea's life cycle is halted. Any new fleas your cat encounters are killed within two hours--preventing re-infestation for as long as four weeks. In fact, Advantage does such a good job breaking the flea's life cycle, there's no need to treat your cat's environment. Applied before the start of flea season, it helps keep your cat from becoming infested in the first place. Used year-round, it prevents fleas from over-wintering in your home to feast on your cat the next season. Safe for kittens as young as eight weeks and as small as nine pounds, Advantage is also water-resistant. This package includes 4 pre-measured doses in easy-to-use applicator tubes.

CONS: expensive, sometimes applicator breaks, stinky smell!
I first purchased this product in August 2015, Again in Janurary 2016, and I just purchased this again (July 2016). I purchased this product to help control fleas on my two cats, one of which is an indoor/outdoor cat. The neighborhood I live in has terrible fleas, so using flea medication is essential.
The product arrived quickly, and came with thorough instructions, which I skimmed. The medication comes in a tiny tube incased in a foil packet. I opened the packet, and took out the tube. You break the seal on the tube by inverting the cap and puncturing the seal. I did this and accidentally twisted, causing the point on the top of the lid to become lodged in the opening of the tube. This was stressful because each treatment is so expensive. I realized, however, that I could fish out the point with some tweezers and still use the product! I then pinned my cat down and applied the product to the back of their neck. While I did see a decrease in fleas, I still saw several. I increased application to once every two weeks, and added baths and flea combing to the regime. Eventually, I was able to apply only once a month. During the summer the flea population seems to increase, which also coincided with my adoption of a second cat. I noticed the cat came in with fleas and I applied this medication, but it didn't seem to do much. I then woke up one morning with about 30 flea bites covering my lower legs and feet! I was horrified, and I knew it was time to get serious!
After a bit of research I realized apart of why the medication may have been ineffective previously was that I wasn't applying it correctly (ha! Thats what i get for skimming!) Rereading instructions, I realized that I need to part my cats fur and try to make skin contact with the medication. I also learned that if my cats lick it it will taste bitter, discouraging licking behaviors of the medication. I'm going to include a few steps I took to control fleas in my house, unrelated to this product, but I think it might be useful! Scroll down to my conclusion if uninterested :) Anyways, so my cats hate baths (they were both rescued and are older so its hard to introduce new behaviors, I mean, I'm no jackson galaxy) For this reason flea baths always stressed me out and I was worried about my cats catching a cold or licking the flea shampoo and getting sick.Instead of bathing my cats, I gave them a pill that will kill all the fleas on them within 6 hours( https://www.amazon.com/Novartis-Capstar-Flea-Tablets-Count/dp/B005Z6UL1M/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1469319334&sr=8-2&keywords=flea+killer+pill). Using this pill in conjunction with this treatment, was a life saver! The next thing I did was give my pets a dry, diatomaceous earth bath. If you choose to do this with your cats, make sure you use food grade DE. DE is a great natural alternative for flea control, but the dust can be damaging to yourself and your cats! To prevent this, I wore a bandana around my mouth, and I stuck a comfy cone on my cat ( https://www.amazon.com/Comfy-Cone-E-Collar-Large-Black/dp/B000XY7CKE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1469319818&sr=8-1&keywords=comfy+cone). My cats didn't like it, but it was safer and easier than flea baths! I also put some apple cider vinegar diluted with water in a spray bottle, and I sprayed down my cats. They hated this, but I think it maybe helped the fleas? It also reduced dust from the DE.
CONCLUSION: I think that all cat owners should use this product on their cats, even if their cats are indoor cats. an inch of prevention is worth a pound of solution, and this is especially true for fleas. Make sure to treat your cats regularly and make sure you apply it correctly!

For the past year I have been battling this infestation and clearly with no luck. I tried cheap flea drops, flea collars, dusting the carpets with boric acid and then later Diatomaceous Earth when I realized Boric acid wasn't safe for the cats. I tried bathing the cats with dawn every week and it just didn't work. I felt the Diatomaceous Earth only agitated the fleas and made them bite more.
I am a self-employed freelance artist and so money is usually tight. What doesn't go back into my work goes into food and litter for the cats and there's usually not enough left over for big name brand flea medication, which is why I tried cheap stuff up till now.
My friend suggested I try Adam's Flea Shampoo on the cats since it worked so well for her dog. I did, and it gave them temporary relief but it is not a preventative and I didn't buy it thinking it was - I just wanted another tool in my box to try and battle these fleas.
Fastforward a month; the fleas are still here, my bag of DE is almost empty, vacuuming hasn't helped a whole lot because the cats are still infested and I am starting to react badly to the flea bites, even getting really itchy sores. I finally have enough leftover in my bank account to get some actual medication and so I buy this after doing a little bit of research.
I bathed the cats with the Adams flea shampoo the night before using the medicine and applied the drops to both of my cats early in the morning the next day - yesterday. This morning I checked the cat which had the infestation worse - whenever I combed him he would usually have PILES of live fleas squirming on the comb. I ran the comb through his fur today, starting with his back which is usually where the fleas would seem to congregate.
Nothing.
I thought maybe I just hadn't hit their spot that time so I ran it down the entire length of his back.
Nothing.
I figured there had to be something wrong so I combed his neck and withers and still the comb was clean.
In disbelief I flipped him over and combed his belly and thighs and still NOTHING. Just one day after applying the drops, both of my cats are flea free.
My house isn't still, so I will have to keep treating it, but it should be so much easier now that the cats are free from those pests.
I am in such utter disbelief that I've been checking the cats constantly all day just to be sure what I was seeing was true. For once in little over a year, my cats are FINALLY comfortable. And I am so happy I bought this.
i am a little confused, though, about Amazon's packing strategy. When I opened the box it was shipped in, the box the drops were in was open. Now this is the type of box that you have to tear the lid open from its perforated line, so there's no way it could've opened by itself in transit.
The box was incredibly damaged but the product itself was fine, so I'm not worried about a return or refund or anything, and I'm not going to dock a star because of it, because the product itself deserves 5 stars alone.
The picture shows exactly how it was in the box.
I definitely recommend Advantage II and I won't buy anything else until or unless the fleas start bevoming immune to it like they did Frontline.
