After using it a few times, we can certainly verify that the JawSaw ‘worx’ as advertised. The JawSaw appears to be a solid construction of durable plastic and some metal parts. The saw is recessed inside the jaw opening (inside the corner of the jaw versus the middle…it cuts from one side of the jaw to the other) to protect any limbs not belonging to the trees themselves (i.e. your personal limbs). Concerning this opening, it is of a fixed size which prevents the cutting of limbs larger than the actual opening (probably 3-5 inches in diameter). Regardless, it works well to cut limbs above your head, at eye level, near the ground, and works especially well to trim up larger branches that you have previously felled and which are lying on the ground (no dulling of the blade on the dirt due to protecting by jaw opening keeping the saw blade away from the ground itself).
A potential shortfall of the JawSaw is that it is fairly heavy with the weight not evenly distributed (i.e. top heavy). On its own there is not too much of an issue, but once the extension handle is utilized you will definitely need two hands and some practice to figure out how to cut limbs above your head with ease. I recommend taking breaks in between overhead cuts! Also, if you’re going in close to the tree, you will have to angle the JawSaw correctly, without the extension handle, to cut limbs while amongst all the other branches. Finally, though common sense, read the warning labels such as “Do not force the cut”. I have had a bad angle on a branch and/or tried forcing a cut once or twice which subsequently resulted in the chain coming off the JawSaw. Fortunately, with a quick look at the instructions and some practice, reattaching the chain is very easy/simple to do. So the product definitely gets points for the ease of reattachment…as compared to some chainsaws.
In summary, the Worx JawSaw is safe to operate, fairly inexpensive, performs numerous functions, works well when you follow the instruction manual, and cuts anything that fits the jaw opening. Otherwise, the only minor issues include the weight of the product and the balancing of the JawSaw after cutting a limb above your head.
Pros:
For those concerned this is some sort of toy, it's not. It will readily cut through any branch that fits in its jaws and it seems built well enough to serve the homeowner for years.
It's extremely safe compared to any other chain saw, or even a hedge trimmer. Almost anyone could operate it and still have all their body parts afterward.
Using the saw without the extension is just about as easy as it looks on TV (which is to say "very easy"). Also, as shown on the infomercial, the jaws work well at preventing the blade from touching the dirt. This allows the user to quickly cut-up limbs lying on the ground, without the risk of dulling the blade.
Cons:
When used with the extension handle the saw is very top-heavy and clumsy. It's Ok for a few branches but you'll quickly tire of using it in this manner. I usually found it easier to climb higher in the tree and use the saw alone. Still, for the price difference, it pays to get the extension, as it did come in handy a few times.
Summary:
In general, it works great for what it's designed to do. Although it cuts slightly slower than a gas chain saw, it's much safer and easier to use. I'd buy it again.
This is both a huge time and back saver! Position it over a limb, push down and zip! The same work I did in a couple of hours would have taken me a day with a chainsaw. Assuming I could last a full day cutting twinkie limbs on the ground all day with a chainsaw... NOT.
Generally a nice additon to my arsenal of tree trimming tools which includes an electric polesaw, manual pole saw, loppers... several chainsaws of various sizes (gas and electric) "The right tool for the right job". It appears to be sturdy and well made.
Generally:
>It is a cord powererd tool so pay attention to the cord! An orange extension cord is recommended.
>It likes oil. Check the oil every 20 minutes or so. It squirts oil on the chain each time the handle is pushed down.
>Make cuts 90º to the limb-log, vertically. Diagonal cuts and horizontal cuts can cause the chain to come off the bar.
>the chain did come off a couple times during break in. easy fix. It took a little while to figure out the self tensioner.
>When done cutting, clean all the chips and oil gunk out with compressed air. Same post use care as a chainsaw.
>I bought an extra chain so I can have a sharp one on hand. Always good to have a backup.
>I bought this as a kit with the extension handle... On the chance I would ever use it. (pricy to buy the handle seperate). I think using this overhead would be tricky. The saw is moderately heavy so extensive overhead cutting would get old-fast. Maybe better for waist high or on-ground cutting. I haven't tried it so I can't comment, really.
I have used an electric chainsaw/polesaw on many occasions...and can tell you there is a learning curve... If the limb is large and splits horizontally from it's weight, halfway through a cut, it will bind the saw in the cut. Then the fun begins. You will be up there with an extension ladder and handsaw cutting the limb to free the powersaw. Some foresight and skill is involved. I mention this only because I can envision the same scenario trying to use a jaw saw overhead. Cutting overhead, start at the end of the limb and take it off in short pieces to reduce it's weight. Start at the tree trunk and whoops. Been there.
First impressions: This is a decent tool for homeowners and "hobby arborists", so long as you recognize its limitations. I could see a number of applications for this tool, around the home...
I have 40 acres... Trails around the back that have become overgrown with these obnoxius Autumn Olive bushes that are like 20' tall weeds with 2" thorns. Nasty Nasty Nasty. Try to cut them with a chainsaw and they bite back... I have a 1000w portable generator and will try the jaw saw on these. THAT will be the acid test.
I'll add to this later. I would recommend this product for waist- high trimming and clean up applications. Nice tool.

I would have given it a 5 star rating, but the chain did come off a few times. It's really easy to put back on, but I have to take one point off for that. All in all, it's a great tool to have for yard work, especially if you have lots of trees to content with.
I would still give it a 5* rating for stronger people
