I have one complaint, but will not affect me giving this a 5 star review. I've lifted religiously for 8 years, and only wore gloves for the first 2 years. Over the past 2 years I've put an extra emphasis on building up the toughness of my hands: knuckle push-ups, heavy deadlifts, lots of heavy farmers walks, doing pull-ups with 2 inch anchor rope, etc. And I use chalk, never straps. Point being, my hands are very tough but the knurling (grip) on this trap bar is quite rough even for my standards. Below 200 pounds was fine, but once I got going over 200lbs it started to be painful on my hands. This actually doesn't bother me because I just see it as another way to toughen my hands and callouses. But if you are a beginner or just do not have good callouses, the handles are going to be a bit painful. It did not break skin on my hands, but it will puncture your hands if they are not built up enough.
That said, do not let that affect your decision to purchase this f*****g awesome trap bar! If you are worried about the tough knurling, get gloves (which I don't personally recommend because it motivates you to grip weights in the wrong part of your hands), wrap the handles with lifting tape, or sand/file it down a little bit (which is what I will end up doing probably). Or just man up, build those callouses, and buy this product!! :)
Also, I'm 6'4" and had plenty of room to do farmers walks inside of it.
Physically, the bar is in excellent shape. It shipped quickly and came packaged very securely and safely. I did not find any rust on the bar, as some other reviewers reported finding. The welds on the bar look pretty clean, and I trust that the bar will be durable and hold up for a while (updates will tell if otherwise).
I initially started looking at this bar as I kept screwing my back up with traditional deadlifts due to my bad form. I was deadlifting last year, and I unfortunately ended up hurting my lower back very badly due to sloppy form, and I stopped deadlifting altogether. Come around to this year, and I'm getting back into lifting again, and I'm doing back squats, bench press, deads on one day, and front squats, military press, power cleans on the other, and I rotate between the two every other day, and I'll throw in some accessory exercises on those days. So I started with this new routine, and it seems as though my deadlift form is either really off or I've hurt my back pretty bad form in my initial lifting stages because I ran into the same injury that i had last year that hurt my lower back so much that at times it felt numb, so again..I took deads out of the equation. Lo and behold and one month later, and my back feels great again, but now I'm a little timid to start deadlifting again at least until I can get some proper advice how to do the lift properly because I think it may have been some sciatic nerve injury (as my non-professional diagnosis).
Now for the actual product review...I really enjoy this bar. I took someone's advice on a forum and I use smaller plates (25lb or 35lb plates that are smaller in diameter compared to the 45lb plates so the bar "sits" lower to the ground) and I stand on top of some 45lb plates to help me get a better ROM in the lift, as it really felt a lot more like a squat without these changes. It's been fun to start "deadlifting" again and my back has been pain free. I'll be curious to see how well this exercise transfers when I finally go back to the olympic bar for deads. Hope that was kind of helpful for anyone with a back injury. I don't think you can beat this bar for the price and I say go for it if you're still thinking about it. I don't really use it for anything else, but I know people get some good workouts using this for shrugs and farmer's walks.

I am very weary about regular deadlifting. I have seen many people get injured due to overextending the back or just bad form. I think the hex bar offers a safe alternative to still activate the muscles but reduce the chance of getting injured. Before anyone gets upset, yes I know many people deadlift safely, but many more people, almost all novices, have bad form. And this is a great alternative to getting injured.
I know that at this price, it's a no-brainer for me to buy this and stay safe and healthy rather than to not and regret it later.
Other than that the product was delivered quickly, is of high quality (it balances when left on the ground and all of the angles of the hexagon are aligned), and was fairly priced!
Win win win!
Thanks :)
The things I didn't like about the bar:
- As mentioned by many reviewers, the bar is definitely crooked. When it comes to working out, I do not like the idea of using uneven equipment or working on uneven surfaces. Over time it might negatively affect you physically and create slight imbalances.
- The knurling is gnarly. Once you start putting a lot of weight on the bar (when I started getting to my 5 rep max weight), it feels like it's going to tear your hands to pieces which makes the exercise very uncomfortable to perform. I don't like using lifting gloves but I would recommend you get some for this bar.
- The sleeves. The sleeves aren't rotating like on an olympic barbell which is fine with me. It's the fact that they're not very smooth at all that bothers me. It's kind of hard to load the bar as the plates will not slide in easily and take a bit of an extra push to get in and out (compared to a regular olympic barbell). It's especially hard when you're loading and unloading weight when there's already plates on the bar (more so when there are 45s and you're trying to load more 45s or remove them).
For the price, I can overlook the flaws. You get what you pay for. If you don't want these negatives, then you'd be better off spending a couple hundred dollars extra. But if you just want to experiment with a hex bar and don't see yourself using it that often, I would definitely get this. For me, with workarounds, this bar is more than usable.
