From the Manufacturer
The DEWALT DWS780 12-inch sliding compound miter saw, has been designed to be precise and accurate enough for fine woodworking, yet durable enough for framing and deck building. The DWS780 is ideal for a variety of end users, including cabinet makers, trim carpenters, framers, installers, and many other professional contractors who require a product that delivers the accuracy, capacity, durability, portability, and ease-of-use that this saw offers. For visibility and accuracy when cutting, this saw features the XPS LED light and cut alignment system that casts a laser-like shadow on the work surface, showing users where the blade will come in contact with the material. Since it does not require recalibration over time or when changing blades, this alignment system can be more accurate and durable than traditional laser guides. The saw’s dual bevel system includes the ability to bevel right and left from 0 to 49 degrees with positive stops at 0, 22.5, 33.9, 45, and 49 degrees in both directions, as well as a high visibility bevel scale. The saw also miters 60 degrees to the right and 50 degrees to the left and features an adjustable stainless steel miter detent plate with 10 positive stops, allowing for fast and easy adjustments. A cam lock miter button allows users to lock angles between detents for versatility on the jobsite. The saw features a powerful 15 amp motor that delivers 3,800 rpm. For convenience, the power cord is routed through the rail in the back, eliminating interference with the slide. Additionally, the saw offers an industry-leading combination of cut capacities, which includes 6-3/4 inch vertical capacity, 7-1/2 inch nested crown capacity, 13-7/8 inch horizontal capacity, and exclusive back fence design that cuts up to a 2 by 16 at a 90 degree angle and 2 by 12 at a 45 degree angle. To simplify and maximize vertical cutting capacity, the unit includes a rail lock latch for holding the head away from the fence.

The positives are; the saw is very accurate and it has a huge capacity. The dust collection is the best I have used. My Festool dust extractor attaches to the saw perfectly without an adapter. The vacuum picks up almost all the fine dust. There is some larger dust particles that collect behind the saw but the dust doesn't seem to drift through out the house. The LED light is wonderful. It is accurate, it doesn't need to be calibrated when you change blades and it provides enough illumination to clearly see my cut mark in a poorly lit room or garage. Pretty much every one who has seen the saw has been impressed with the light. It is a big plus. All the saws adjustments are fast and easy, the scales are big so they are easy to see and easy to set, even to quarters of a degree.
The negatives are; the saw is BIG! To be fair that is also the reason I bought the saw in the first place. The saw needs to be set up several feet away from the wall to get full travel. The dust bag adds quite a bit of depth to the saw requiring you to move it even further from the wall. It would be hard to use this saw in a hallway. This saw would really benefit from a soft start motor. The motor has enough "kick" when both starting and stopping the motor that the blade jumps up to an inch. I ruined several work pieces the first few days I used this saw until I got used to how much the blade moves on start up and stopping.
I am a professional trim carpenter, sometimes I set my tools up for a month at a job and other times only for a few hours. I have decided to not carry this saw in my van every day, it takes up too much room and is too heavy to carry, if my trustily old 8 1/2" miter saw will do the job. If i am going to be set up for a few days, am doing crown molding or need to set up inside a house and use dust collection this is the saw I bring to the job. The saw is good enough that if I could only have one saw, this is the one I would choose. All things considered, I really like this saw and would recommend it to anyone who has enough room for it.
The good: 16" cross cut. Thumb lock works great. Easy to adjust the miter detentes to dial them in perfectly. Power! Pretty smooth glide. Nice light. Easy to bevel. (My last saw the Hitachi 12" was really clumsy to bevel) Love the bevel stops that pivot out of the way if you want them to. Very handy idea. Fence has a durable feel. Excellent Teflon glide for the miter base. Weighs less than other 12" saws and is way easier to carry than my old Hitachi.
The "oh well": The glide rails do stick out the back so it takes up a lot of room on a bench. The blade is not so good for finish work but then complaining about the bade a saw comes with is kinda like complaining that your new car came with bad wiper fluid. Just replace it. No big deal. The included blade would be great for framing lumber though. I recommend staying away from a thin kerf finish since it's more likely to wobble on a 12". Get a good 100 tooth full kerf.
The bad: I have not found anything bad about it just yet other than be careful in regards to "pull up" of the work piece since the blade plunges so far down into the base. But it's no big deal if one is careful. It's actually no big deal to simply not plunge the saw all the way down. Or, one could adjust the plunge stop up and then install a sacrificial fence. If you need to have the full 16" crosscut just remove the sacrificial fence temporarily. No saw will do absolutely every task without some modifications. For instance if you are one that can't figure out the math in order to cut crown flat (shame on you if you call yourself a carpenter) then build a sled jig with fence that is sized for the crown your working with and cut it standing up. Heck back in the old days with radial arms we had jigs for everything.
In conclusion: Good saw for the money, smooth and powerful, be careful of "pull up" if you have the grace of a neanderthal , buy a nice full kerf finish blade while your at the store getting your saw. Google up some you tube videos on making sacrificial fences and jigs.

I read reviews about the poor stock blade that comes with it - i was cutting some maple pallet wood, without realizing i had missed a nail, the saw never slowed down, didn't even dull
I just can't stop praising this miter saw
My only suggestion is to wait until it comes on sale
