Active Shutter 3D technology offers superior image quality over competing Passive 3D technologies by means of the differing processes executed within them. Both technologies create the illusion of depth by slightly altering what users' eyes are exposed to. Passive 3D glasses block different kinds of emitted light from reaching each eye. The result is a 3D effect, but since certain light data has been omitted -- which can equate to up to half of the available lines of resolution -- this effect can not reach the level of true 1080p HD. Active 3D on the other hand does not omit light sources from the spectrum, instead producing its 3D effect through a subtle dimming process of the individual lenses. PlayStation 3D glasses manage this effect seamlessly through their infrared connectivity. The result is a superior 3D effect, at full HD quality. Infrared connections between glasses and the PS3, as well as other 3D processes are kept constant through the glasses 30-hour rechargeable battery life.
SimulView Technology Improves the 2-player Gaming Experience
Fans of co-op and competitive gaming modes are intimately familiar with local split-screen multiplayer functionality, which literally splits the visible display area of a single TV used in offline play to show the differing actions of individual players participating in the same game, at the same physical location. As advantageous as this is for group play, the quality of even the sharpest of HD television displays is compromised by the halving of the viewable area. SimulView Technology does away with this issue by enabling two players in a supported game to see their actions in-game displayed at full-screen.*** (The full requirement for the effect are: a PlayStation 3D Display, 2 pairs of PlayStation 3D Glasses, a PS3 system, a PS3 game that supports SimulView, and two players) Built on the Active 3D glasses technology and specially enhanced for gaming, SimulView technology brings players deeper into the game than ever before while still sharing the experience with a friend. Notable games supporting SimulView technology include MotorStorm: Apocalypse, Killzone 3, Gran Turismo 5, Super Stardust HD, with more titles in development and coming soon.

1) Weight: The Playstation glasses are noticeably heavier when picking them up compared to the Panasonic glasses. All the weight is in the front as you would expect. Maybe to compensate for the heavier weight in the front, Sony decided to make the back of the glasses wrap tighter around behind the ears so they hold to your head rather than slip down your face. I could just be spoiled with the lightweight Panasonic glasses, but these are probably the heaviest glasses I've worn, and I've been through my share of eyeglasses with thick prescription lenses.
2) Comfort: Because of how tight the glasses hold behind the ears, there is a definite amount of pressure felt when I first put the glasses on. It didn't bother me after settling in to watch a movie, but I could see this maybe hurting someone with a big head if they wear it long enough. The positive here is that at least the glasses feel secure and don't gradually slide down or move around if I turn my head like the Panasonic glasses do on my face.
3) Fit: Since I wear prescription glasses already, I'm always mindful of how 3D glasses fit over them. One of the main complaints I have with the Panasonic glasses is that they don't sit nicely with my eyeglasses since there isn't enough space around frame and lenses to sit over a pair of glasses. Instead, the Panasonic glasses just sit in front of the eyeglasses instead of fitting over them, and I feel like I'm constantly readjusting the Panasonic glasses since they don't feel properly seated on my face. Fortunately here with the Playstation glasses, there is plenty of space to fit a pair of eyeglasses under them, so wearing glasses underneath them doesn't interfere with their positioning.
4) Performance: I let my wife use the Panasonic glasses first, and she remarked about how dark it made the picture. I didn't really notice it before, but switching between the Playstation glasses and the Panasonic ones really highlighted how much the Panasonic glasses darken the picture. I didn't have a problem with it, but my wife definitely prefers the Playstation glasses because it doesn't seem to dramatically change the picture's brightness. Otherwise, I haven't noticed any performance difference between the 2 glasses with both of them producing a good 3D effect without any ghosting.
5) Design: Here is where I have the most problem with the Playstation glasses. When the glasses are folded up, the glasses are still very thick since the plastic holding the lens juts out a couple inches. I suppose it is a tradeoff to do this so that the 3D glasses have enough space to fit over prescription glasses, but I expected Sony to make their 3D glasses as sleek as the Panasonic ones. Instead, these seem clunky. Instead of placing the power switch in an obvious and easily accessible location on top of the glasses (like the Panasonic ones), the Playstation glasses places a switch labeled "battery on/off" on the inside right part of the frame. Instead, the microUSB charge plug is on the top of the frame is next to what I assume is a button to re-sync the glasses with the TV. The problem with the microUSB charge plug is that there is a hard plastic cover over it to keep out dust, and it is not easy to remove since it is flush with the frame with only a tiny side available to pry it up.
Overall, the Playstation 3D glasses are functional and a good cheap alternative to the Panasonic active 3D glasses. It's also great that these glasses are meant to be compatible with other brands of IR-emitting 3D TVs. If you need some cheap active 3D glasses for friends and family to watch 3D content with you, these will do the job nicely. I've seen these priced as low as $19.99 this year, so we've come a long way since the $100+ per pair of 3D glasses. However, for long periods of use, I would probably go with the lightweight Panasonic glasses especially if you don't wear prescription glasses.
After I bought two pairs from amazon, I bought two more pairs at local best-buy store. The price was cheaper at best-buy ($19.99), but you could only buy one pair per order; not sure whether best-buy still offers this deal though. As mentioned earlier, I've only been using them for watching 3D movies on Epson 3010e, but they should work on any 3D TV or projector that supports active-shutter glasses.
Note that these glasses cannot work with Nvidia 3D vision, which requires a different sync mechanism. Some people may be confused a little by this, instead of explaining how they work differently, let me just provide some typical scenarios - For example, if you have a Nvidia 3D vision laptop and want to watch 3D movie on the laptop (or a desktop with Nvidia 3D vision graphic card connected to a 120HZ monitor), you need to use Nvidia 3D vision glasses, and these PS3 glasses won't work. But if you connect your 3D vision laptop to a 3D TV or projector, you would need PS3 3D glasses, and Nvidia 3D vision glasses won't work. This is an oversimplified answer because there're exceptions, but should serve you well. Just keep in mind that Nvidia 3D vision glasses sync with the graphic card, while PS3 3D glasses sync with the 3D TV/projector.
In any case, highly recommend these 3D glasses to anyone who wants to enjoy watching 3D movies on their active-shutter 3D TV/projector. You will not be disappointed!

also vendor has increased its rare in last 10 days by 1k. thats why too much of an increase. i want to buy 2 more of these...however now might not.
Also more suited to smaller heads from say 6 years to adult. Probably would not be suitable for over adult normal spectacles but a good cheaper alternative to the more costly Sony 3D glasses.
Not uncomfortable either - was able to watch full movies like Piranha 3D without problem.
