About Lifetime
We've come a long way since our beginning. It all started as an idea in a garage in Riverdale, Utah. Lifetime Products' founder was a father who simply wanted to build a better basketball hoop for his family.
His passion for innovation quickly expanded beyond his initial project, and he created a company in March of 1986 called Lifetime Products. The philosophy for the name, as well as the goal of the company, was to build durable lasting products for consumers.
Lifetime Products has become a world-wide trusted brand as it has broadened from basketball hoops, to picnic tables, and to folding tables and chairs. Now our sheds, kayaks, and more are leaders in their competitive markets. From those first years in Lifetime's history, the company has grown from 15 employees in a partial warehouse to over 1,500 employees — all over the globe.
Lifetime Monkey Bar Adventure
Models: 90143 & 90177
The heavy-duty, Monkey Bar Adventure Swing Set includes 3 belt swings and 1 trapeze bar with gym rings. Each swing chain has rubber grips to prevent little fingers from being pinched, and the chain clips at the top safely secure the swings to the frame. It also has a fireman's pole and includes a fun, 9' wavy slide. The monkey bars are an instant favorite for kids and provide hours of entertainment.
Constructed of powder-coated galvanized steel and high-density polyethylene, our swing sets are smooth and maintain their strength so your kids can play safely and comfortably on a sunny day. The powder-coating is weather and rust resistant to protect against cracking, chipping, or peeling. Lifetime's Swing Sets are guaranteed to keep their design and good looks for years to come.

There was a problem filtering reviews right now. Please try again later.
The set arrived in a wooden crate wide and long enough for the slide. There were 3 boxes under the slide. The delivery guy was great in getting closest to where it would be put together, but make sure you are prepared to help unload - our delivery did not have a lift, so we tipped it on end to get it out of the truck and gently set it on the ground.
The pieces were all packed very well with plastic, foam, etc. Before my help arrived, I laid all the pieces out near the site it would be put together (I placed it on grass...might do rubber mulch later, but wanted to see placement before ripping up my yard). The hardware comes in 3 packs (cardboard backing with plastic to show what the pieces are). The labeling is pretty good - it tells you at the top if it's for the Frame Assembly, the Monkey Bar Assembly, etc. You will be able to figure out which piece is which, but it's interesting in the instructions that they will call a bolt a 3 letter code to put in the drawing, but on the packaging, those codes are not used. I'm not sure why this is, considering they give you exactly the right hardware for each section (even when many of the bolts and nuts are used elsewhere).
My help and I were not rushing anything. Once we got our wits about what the pieces and hardware were, it became very easy. So, I would recommend taking your time and don't tighten any of the bolts/nuts until the section is together. We were finished in less than 2 and 1/2 hours. I am usually quick to pick up the power tools and just go carefully, however, I only used a drill one time to bore the holes in the slide (they were there, but the plastic wasn't open to pass the bolt through). I also used a socket wrench for the several acorn nuts. Otherwise, I used the tools contained in the packaging. The instructions were well-done and easy enough to follow. We never assembled anything incorrectly and had to redo something (which isn't typical in my assembly experiences). The only thing we ever had to do again was loosen a couple bolts so other bolts could be fit into their places and after that occurred, we kept all bolts loose and returned to tighten when the section was complete. The hardware is excellent and even the allen wrenches were quality.
Since most of the construction involves the bolts with a threaded nut, I thought I'd share our technique that helped us. The bolt and nut look identical once they are joined together from the outside (which makes the set safe from anything sticking out). The nut is about an inch long and the bolt goes through the large pipes to "blindly" be screwed together. In placing them near the ends, look into the pipe from the opening to line up the bolt and nut. In other places, I found it to be helpful to place the bolt in all the way straight, peek into the hole to see the point, then place the nut inside. You won't be able to screw these together by hand too far because of the locking compound. (A few earlier reviews commented on too much compound or broken bolts...this was not the case. I believe Lifetime must follow their reviews or suggestions on this as well as handrails by the slide). I tightened these bolts with the wrenches only to the point they were touching the metal pipe. Then, I placed the others. After that section of the set was together, I went back and tightened them completely.
There were only minor issues in putting the set together: The labeling of hardware in the diagram is not the same on the packaging, some "blind" spots putting the bolts/nuts together were challenging when the end caps were included, and the holes in the slide needed bored.
Now, the fun begins! My girls who are 5 and 6 love the different areas of the set. My 6 year old is able to handle monkey bars, but the height still concerns me. My 5 year old needs my help right now to do the monkey bars because the drop would be too great for her. I am pleased that they will grow into this (rather than grow out of it) in the coming years. Everything is top-notch engineering, construction, aesthetics, and physical fun! We had plenty of kids playing on it last night (including a 14 year old) and the set didn't move from place.
Overall, the question "Would you buy this again," can be answered this way: "I won't have to!" The set is built for years of fun...a Lifetime! Would I recommend it to friends, absolutely!
I put this swing set together in a couple of afternoons. I probably spent an hour opening everything and laying out the pieces, about 6 hours actually putting it together, and another hour cleaning up the tools, packaging, and boxes afterwards. That's 8 hours total, maybe 9 tops. That was completely by myself and, get this, in snow (day 1) and mud/slush (day 2). Because of the fine motor skills needed to line up holes and start screw threads I couldn't wear gloves so I was taking breaks every 15 minutes to warm my fingers up enough to be able to feel them again. On a nice day, this whole project would have taken about 6-7 hours I think. Full disclosure: I'm an engineer and have been turning wrenches around the house and on cars since I was about 5. You're results may vary.
Tips:
1) I had to use a drill to open up the holes on a few of the plastic end caps since they didn't line up right. It cost me about 10 minutes of time. Not a big deal. No impact to form or function whatsoever.
2) The shoulder bolt/shoulder nut system they use for this is a fantastic choice from an engineering/structural standpoint, but they can be a little tricky to line up and get the thread started since you often have to mate the two pieces blind (inside the steel tubes). Be patient. You can forcefully shove and wiggle the fasteners to get them lined up, but don't force the threads. You'll regret it if you strip them out. Which brings me to #3.
3) All the parts are well packaged and clearly labeled (Great!). There is not one single spare of ANYTHING included (Not Great). You get exactly the number of screws, bolts, washers, etc. necessary to put it together. Break one, loose one, you are S.O.L. Making this fact even more daunting is that the aforementioned ingenious shoulder bolts/shoulder nuts are not the sort of thing you can run out to a local hardware store and find. If you end up short, you'll probably have to contact the manufacturer and wait for more to come in the mail.
Top reviews from other countries
Packaging and delivery. Excellent. The Canadian Delivery service to Ottawa in June was professional and courteous. The packaging material itself was very sturdy. You need a hammer to disassemble the wooden crate. It is large.. size of a small car.
Assembly. Best if done with at least 2 people. My husband and his friends easily assembled the set in 3 hrs. Make sure to carefully count and organize the hardware.
Play. The children love this set. If two larger children - ie 60 lb plus - swing in the same direction, in tandem, and parallell, the swing set tends to lurch forwards and backwards. I remind the children to swing opposite from each other. And the set is fine. The quality as of 1 month seems great, and the children are getting lots of enjoyment from it!
This is good and sturdy enough for teenagers as well.
Easy (though long) to build, does not require anchors, even me as an adult I can swing high enough using the swing the closest to the T and it wont lift of the ground.
Paint is perfect after a year, and so are all the screws and hooks.
I definitetely recommend this set.
note that it comes in a huge wooden pallet, which I actually used for side projects.
Two adults required to assemble
It was extremely easy to assemble - all the parts went it smoothly and we had no issues with the hardware. It took 1.5 people to put it together just over 2 hours.
This play structure might not be correct for smaller kids (younger than 3 years of age).
I would absolutely recommend this product!!!
Delivery was a piece of cake as well - be prepared it comes in a big crate.
