Product Description

Oboz Footwear is owned and operated by a small group of passionate industry veterans and life-long outdoor enthusiasts.  They define themselves by where they live and recreate. Their name comes from "outside Bozeman." Their home base, Bozeman, Montana sits on the northern edge of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem--18 million acres of some of the wildest land in North America. It is here, in the Northern Rocky Mountains, from the Wind River and Teton Ranges to the Bridgers and Spanish Peaks, with incredibly varied geologic features, and abundant wildlife such as grizzly bears, wolves, bison, that Oboz is found. They've adopted the phrase "True to the Trail" as their guiding principle. As a new company, they're faced with direction-changing decisions every day. Filtering all of their decisions through the "True to the Trail" test helps them stay consistent with the vision that led them to create Oboz Footwear.

GREAT backpacking boot! Check out my review on the Oboz Wind River II also since I compare it to this boot. Appearance? VERY nice looking boot - possibly the nicest looking pair I've ever owned. Fit? I strongly advise anyone getting this boot to buy at least 1/2 size larger - maybe more - perhaps a full size up if you intend to wear really heavy socks that exceed the equivalent of a medium weight smartwool sock. I returned the original size 11 boot and the 11.5 size fit perfectly. This boot (if sized correctly) cradles the foot comfortably while providing extremely good, strong foot-exoskeletal type support. A very solid, fit-like-a-glove ankle support all around. The BFit insoles are VERY good with superb arch support. That may sound unimportant, but it's not. Often after buying an expensive pair of boots it is discovered that better insoles are needed. Oboz obviously did not forget the crucial importance of good insoles when they designed this boot. The factory ones from Oboz are more than adequate and actually better than most you'd buy to replace them. In the end that actually saves you 30 bucks or so since better insoles are not required.

Cons? Not sure there are any. They may be a bit too stiff for normal hiking since they are designed as a full duty backpacking boot, but that's not really a "con" since that's what they were designed for. The firm support may be a bit much for daily wear or light trail hiking. The boot appears durable, but I still don't think I'd wear it muddy terrain unless it is cleaned well afterwards. I suspect mud could cake-up in the fabric area, but with proper cleaning that ceases to be an issue. Having said that, I still recommend this boot to anyone looking for a good supporting, ground grabbing boot that has eye-popping appeal. This boot will attract complements if that matters to you. Really nice looking boots that will get you anywhere you want to go.

I discuss the advantages of the semi-rigid Oboz soul versus "athletic" souls in my review of the Wind River IIs. Oboz makes great boots. I got lots of boots - LOTS - and I've grown to consider Oboz to be my favorites for foot support and stability, which is what backpacking is all about. The Lowa Tibets are as good or better, but you'll pay a premium for them. I got them also, but they generally stay in the closet, or at least are less often worn than my Oboz.

Top rate boot, Slight break-in required primarily to get the lace tension like you want it. Once adjusted, this boot and the Wind River II become unbeatably supportive footwear for off-the-beaten-path walking.

This is my second pair of Oboz boots. I bought my first pair of wind river II from REI. I love the fit and comfort as well as the stability they provide. I live in the mountains and my boots see good hard use. From working with shovels, tracking on steep terrain, field training dogs or just walking these boots have been great. No strap failures or problems of any kind. Never had a blister and my feet were always warm and dry. If the Beartooth hold up as well as the Wind River II did I will have no complaints. In comparison the Beartooth are a little bigger and seem to be more robust in their construction. They are also very comfortable for me.

Nice Hiking boot, They have to break in for about up to a week, but they are comfortable and rugged. I read the reviews and ordered a 1/2 size larger but could have gone a full size for use with thick socks.

These Beartooth BDRY boots are great. After an ankle break I needed more ankle support at work and these are wonderful for that. They do run snug size wise but I ordered my normal size and they are fine with the thin socks and the orathotic insoles that I have to use in place of the original insoles which are very comfortable in themselves. So if you need ankle support and a narrower foot hugging boot these are very very good for that. I wore these breaking them in for a week or so and liked them so much that I ordered another pair. They have just outstanding foot support and are more of a rigid type boot. These were exactly what I was looking for, Thank-you OBOZ !

I initially like this boot; in fact I bought a second pair. After some time in the field and well under a year of moderate use the strap mount pulled apart at the ankle. As another reviewer stated, this left the boot nearly worthless and it is a fatal flaw in the design.

I'm still breaking them in 2-3 miles per day and the fit and support are the best I've experienced. (The right side is a little snug but I never had both feet of the same size so I keep the toenails trimmed and they feel great. ) Laces lock your foot in well and I'm walking lawns morning dew every day in the northeast and they are waterproof. Tread is sure footed, glad I own a pair
