This unit was purchased for a child's room in an older home that is 10ft by 10 ft. Overall I am very happy with this unit. The outer grate protects your hands from burns and it was easy to set the dial for maintaining the room temperature. It would have been nice to have a proper thermostat on the unit, but it is fairly easy to turn the unit on, let it heat the room to the desired temperature, and then slowly turn down the thermostat dial until the unit kicks off. I think for the price of the unit, this is an acceptable compromise.
One thing to keep in mind is that even though this unit is relatively safe to use in a child's room and has a thermal cutoff, it won't turn off by simply turning over the unit. The safety feature only works if the unit overheats. This means that if it gets knocked over, your surface may become damaged since the grate acts as a buffer.
Therefore, I only recommend this for rooms where it can be placed out of the way (preferably elevated) and secured from accidents and obstructions. If you are really concerned about child safety, I recommend a passive system like the Econo-Heat 0603 E-Heater which is a heat panel. This system lacks a fan for quick heat recovery and warm up, but it will do the job if you use it for the recommended room size and/or keep the doors to those rooms closed to maintain proper temperature.

Safe, heater heats up whole room very well
I purchased this heater for my bedroom and it works great. It has two heat settings, high at 1500 watts and low at 750 watts. It also has a fan only option and a second dial which is a thermostat which works great. I use it on low and it heats the whole room to the point where I do use the thermostat dial. The heater itself is cool to the touch while running, the cord and extention cord I am using is also cool to the touch while operating. I posted a picture next to a pack of wet wipes to show the size. It also has a wider base then the the top so it stays put and doesn't tip over. I would post more pictures but for a while now the app is only allowing me to post one picture. Overall a great product!
