If you think that this watch is a 'beater' or extremely rugged, you need to do more research on watches before buying one. With the black coating type you need to be a little cautious with it. It doesn't mean it can't take a bump, but you will scratch the glass or the bezel. The case body is made of composite/plastic so it is very durable and the case back is steel. As for water proof, don't pull the lug out underwater and you'll be golden. 100M is adequate for most things, including light swimming, but its not a watch you'd wear riding a jet ski. The complaint about the smelly strap, i'm sure that might happen if you stuck your hand into swamp water or left the strap wet, but pool/shower shouldn't cause anything of the sort. Just let the strap dry since it holds moisture. Other than that, great watch, makes a statement on the wrist and the face is very legible. It is very comfortable and the build quality is on par if not better than watches in the same price range. From a design perspective, the updated original watch looks very modern. I'd recommend it for any collection.

If you're looking for a cheap watch you can abuse, buy a lumniox.

Nice watch. Is actually nicer in person. Got the all black. Set it when I got it 3 weeks ago and is still accurate to the second. Very lightweight. Cannot really comment on the water resistance cuz I wasn't caught in the rain with it yet. Gave it 5 stars cuz Victorinox is great with water proofing watches. Isn't my first Victorinox.
Despite being black the numbers and hands are somewhat metallic and shine when any light is on them. Very nice. Like the band too. Is a NATO style band. Works well. One of my few watches I don't have to wrap a hair tie around the band for the extra strap length. Awesome.
No complaints. Like it a lot.

I had seen this watch at both Macy's and Nordstrom's over the past year with a much higher price tag of $295. As fortune would have it, I found the exact same watch on Amazon, and it was well below the retail price. Why anyone would pay retail these days is beyond me. All of that being said, this Victorinox Watch strikes the perfect balance of ruggedness with class. The simple, brushed metallic face in a muted gold framed by grey, threaded by matching gold-toned nylon band is so subtle and classy. For me,understated watches are best. So many of today's newer styles are excessive in their multiple styles, colors, and excessive size. At the end of the day, you want an accessory to your overall look---not a glorified hubcap of viagra-fueled pomposity, fake tans and steroid-laden insecurity (see most Diesel watches). By contrast, this Victorinox watch doesn't have to try too hard because, honestly, its virtue is already there.

I received my first Swiss Army Calvary watch upon graduation in 1991. I've been wearing Victorinox/Swiss Army ever since. This watch came across my desktop in a chronograph version which I liked but didn't care for the use of the chronograph functionality. So I did a search for a non chronograph version and found three; black, gray and green. At first it looks cheap but after wearing it for a day I'm impressed! It's case is stainless steel covered with some sort of polymer material. First impression of the band I thought was cheap but after wearing it it is very comfortable! It is very light weight and you don't even know it's on your wrist. It is a keeper! I am sure it will take a beating after time but it will still keep time.

I had high hopes for this watch when I bought it. I needed a rugged, everyday type of watch that I could wear around a lot, without giving up aesthetics. I also wanted longevity out of the thing, since watches are expensive, and the old "original" watch lasts forever. With that being said, I've had the watch for a year now, and am 100% satisfied thus far. In terms of durability, the watch is great, and shows no signs of depreciation. The band is fantastic, and still feels and looks new, even though I wear it every day, and strap it into the same loop each time. The watch itself is excellent, keeps correct time, and has not needed to be fixed or brought in for any battery replacement. Overall a great product. I recommend the grey one, though the black is nice too. Would buy again.

I bought a Victorinox watch from this company. The shipping was on time and the product was in good condition. A few months later my watch began to malfunction. The watch dials stopped moving on its own and i had to pull out the crown and push it back in to make it work again. After a few days, the problem seemed to go away but now its running slower. I wake up at 7AM and the watch is at 6:30AM so i have to adjust my watch every day. I knew it was an internal problem with the watch because I haven't dropped it. I sent an email to the seller regarding the malfunction and asked about sending the watch in to be repaired because my watch had a warrenty on it. I received no reply. I sent another email 2 weeks later. Still no reply. They will promise you a good product, but they will not answer you if you have a problem
