I've been needing an ankle brace for years, but didn't realize it. My right ankle rolls inward, it is very painful, has caused a bunion that required surgery, but, while the surgery cured the bunion, it made my foot stability much worse. Doctors did not want to give me an ankle brace, because I have diabetes, but finally, I said "enough, I can't take this anymore". Started researching, looking for a brace that would not cause abrasions. I just started wearing the TriLok today, and already am pleased with it. It is very comfortable and supportive. I feel less pain already. Unfortunately, due to the damage caused by two foot surgeries, I should have ordered a large, instead of a medium. The length is fine, the width is not. If your foot is wide, consider a larger size. Also, the Velcro straps have pluses and minuses. Plus, very adjustable. You can use the TriLok on either the left or right foot, you can strap it to keep your foot from rollng inward or outward. Minus, they are a bear to put on. My husband, an engineer, could not figure it out from the diagrams on the package. I watched a Youtube video several times, make sure you watch the one for left or right, medial or lateral, whatever configuration you need. I may change the rating to a five, right now I am grumpy because all the Velcro patches keep sticking to each other.
Then when I get it on, it punches and rubs my foot and skin causing the skin to break open and bleed.
Just get a $20 or $30 ankle brace and SAVE your MONEY, FRUSTRATION, and TIME!
Top reviews from other countries
I had read that it was really difficult to put on. I watched the video on youtube on how to wear it and it was very simple! The brace consists of 3 different pieces, so just pause after each segment until you have mastered each part.
I find the brace comfortable, not too hot and very supportive. I finally feel like I am walking straight again. I wear a women's 9.5 shoe with a healthy calf size. I ordered a medium, which was the recommended size, even though many reviews said to size up. The reason I did this was because Trilock maintains it will give you "medical grade compression". A little squeezing sounded okay to me after the pain I have been in! The brace size is perfect. You can adjust how tightly you secure the top velcro if you find it too tight. It took a few tries of how to get it to optimal comfort since there are many areas to adjust, but still not a problem. Don't be intimidated by it, keep at it until you find your sweet spot!
And speaking of sweet spots, I am going to golf for the first time since my injury (which was simply overuse, not trauma). After a few tentative swings at home, I feel supported by the brace and knowing that it will keep my tendon lifted, although I will not be walking the course yet.
If you are on the fence about shelling out $150 for the TriLok brace, I recommend that you do it. Nothing else I have tried has worked even remotely as well as this. It is well made, easy to wear and will definitely help with your foot pain from PTTD.
