How to epilate: tips for first-time users
Evenings are the best time for epilation; you’re more relaxed, and any minor bumps will be gone by the morning! The best preparation is exfoliating in warm water. It will leave your skin clean and relaxed and will help to reduce those dreaded ingrown hairs. Use an exfoliating scrub or mitt, or we recommend our Braun Silk-épil SkinSpa innovative exfoliating brush for 4X better results than manual scrubbing.
When epilating, hold your epilator so that it feels natural. Hold at a 90-degree angle to your legs and run the epilator in an upward motion against the direction of hair growth. There’s no need to press down too hard; simply touch the epilator lightly on the skin. Braun Silk-épil Wet and Dry can be used in the bath or shower for additional comfort. The massaging rollers also help to minimize discomfort. With regular use, epilation becomes virtually painless.
The golden rule is to moisturize after epilation, not before. Apply body lotion for the best results and get set for super-soft, silky skin in the morning.

Epilation itself is a painful process of removing hair, especially when removing the underms area, this is probably not the epilators fault. I should mention that my first try epilating my underarms was super painful, I almost teared my eyes. I wouldnt blame the epilator as I know and willingly agreed to tolerate the pain. So if you think you are not strong enough feeling pain then epilation may not be the method for you. However, epilating my arms and legs were not very painful, infact I would say it probably wasnt painful at all. But I guess it depends on individuals.
The epilator is NOT chargable, it needs to be connected to the power outlet at all times of use, which I thought was advantageous as well as disadvantageous. Advantageous because it eliminates the use of batteries and you do not need to care about having enough charge on it for a long body epilation time. However, the fact that the epilator needs to be plugged in for usage requires the need to be near an outlet at all times. It is extrememly important that the epilator does not contact with water while it is plugged in.
The provided parts such as the shaverhead, and the trimmer cap is quite useful too. shaverhead can be used for shaving, while the trimmer cap helps lessen the length of hair, I hope u know which hair I am referring to. The two differnt epilation caps are fun to use as one of them massages the skin, which I found interestingly cool. Even though it takes a several turns for a certain area to be completely smooth, but I believe it depwnds on the the hair growth as well.I personally have fine hair on my arms so Iits wasnt at all painful epilating my arms. My underarms have fine-medium hair growth so it was super painful epilatin there, I am really hoping I would get used to the pain and feeling some day.
Cleaning the epilator can be annoying as it takes a while to clean with the brush, but certainly not impossible. Since this epilator can be opened to a certain extent cleaning becomes easier, just time consuming. Hpwever, the epilator can also be washed under running water, only when it is competely unplugged from any power source and turned off. Make sure, to comletely dry yourself as well as all ghe parts that were washed under water before putting it back into place and before the epilator is turned back on.
First time epilating my underarms, I was able to get rid of atleast ninety five percent of the hair I had but it definitely took a few strokes to get to my desired results.
Overall, I am enjoying my experience with the epilator as it does what I had expected of it except that I thought it would be chargable. I bought this item for 54 dollars and if it does not break for any unfortunate reason, I believe that purchasing this item will be worth spending my money. I am happy with almost everything about this epilator.
Yes ,my first one was in 2002 which was also from Braun(See pics inserted) !!! The epilator head is still in a working condition, but the shaver doesn't seem to do the job well now, hence decide to go for a new one .
I am so happy and glad for once again opting for Braun and not any other brand, and these are the reasons why-
(1) It does what it claims, i.e picks up the tiniest hair and even the flat lying hair .In other words ,it's precision makes it more efficient, saves time . Epilation that required 7 -8 time of rolling over a particular patch of skin now can be be done in 3-4 rolls. That's nearly half the time and energy
(2)The shaver too is very sharp, efficient making it easy breezy to work on those sensitive areas.
(3) A smart light right below the roller head gives you clearer view of the area being covered which helps maneuver your moves where there is more growth or not going over again n again where not required. This feature of light wasn't there in the older models.
(4) Fully washable. Although it wasn't a major issue ,being fully washable is a big added advantage over the older model I had. Cleaning under running water makes the job really easy n quick.
(5) Cooling pad helps prepare your skin before epilations and soothes afterwards.
Would like to add a golden tip which is also beneficial in epilating without undergoing the excruciating pain that ensues and that is to use a natural Loofah or Luffa every alternate day while bathing. Gently scrubbing your skin with a loofah (where you are eventually going to epilate or even shave ) every alternate day or once in 3 days will weaken the hair roots and also wear off the in growth to a large extent , which ultimately brings down the pain during epilation to barely 10 % . Mind you if you have very heavy or thick growth then scrubbing with loofah may be done every single day while bathing. Just remember to be 'GENTLE'.! If this method is applied on regular basis one doesn't have to dread the pain that's associated with epilation, in fact you would always opt for epilation rather than going for waxing(which removes the epidermis of the skin ) or bleaching.
Regularly using a loofah and then epilating once in every 15-20 days has significantly reduced the hair growth over the years. Some times its past 20 days and hair are fully grown , but they are so thin and scanty and barely visible that I can go for another week without removing them.
I even use the epilator of my upper lips.....YES!! Upper lips!! B'cos I scrub it with a natural Loofah!
If you want to avoid spending hundreds of dollars per year in a waxing parlor ,plus save time , invest in any of the Braun epilator and reap the benefits for atleast next 10-15 years !!

Now, I'm a man, and I recommend this for men too. Ladies, if you want your man to have a smooth face and he just hates shaving, this is the answer to both your dreams.
I'm of Mediterranean descent, so I have coarse, dark whiskers which are a pain to shave. Literally, a pain. And even after I shave it looks like I haven't. Years ago, I went for lazer hair reduction, which helped a lot. It killed about 50% of my whiskers, mostly under the chin and on my sides. But the mustache and ball of the chin were hardly affected, since these areas have the coarsest hairs.
Recently, I had been waxing my face. After 6 months of waxing, it has become really easy and painless to pluck out my whiskers. The first few times were very painful. But after a few times, it becomes easier and less painful because the hair root is less dense and less tethered to the skin.
So I went online looking for a home lazer kit to try my own lazer treatments at home, since waxing once a week was just too time consuming and messy. I didn't even know about epilators until looking for lazers. So when I found epilators, I starting comparing different types and brands. From the customer reviews I decided to go with this one because it has 40 hair pluckers instead of 20, and because it's a little better built and more durable than the cheaper models.
Well, it just arrived and I just tried it and it works absolutely brilliantly. I didn't feel a thing, because my hairs had already been plucked out many times, and their roots are not so stubbornly attached to the root system. Honestly, all I felt was light tugging on my skin. No pain what-so-ever. And it even gets the small fine hairs around the lips, which are so-o-o-o time consuming with tweezers. With a 40-plucker epilator, I did my whole face in about 10 minutes, and it's as smooth as silk.
To reduce the redness afterward, I just rub an ice cube over my skin for a couple of minutes, and then apply some Jergens lotion.
Now, here's a little tip for both men and women... If you haven't plucked your hair before, the first time will be painful. But trust me, it gets easier with time. I did my whole face today and didn't feel a thing.
So, to ease the pain when you're first starting out, simply tap the epilator onto your skin and then immediately remove it. Wait 10 seconds or so, and then tap again. Short little taps will pluck out a few hairs at a time, making it far less painful than sweeping a longer section. Also, hold your skin down with your free hand. This way, the hair removal is quicker and less painful, since your skin won't be pulled up with the hair. If you don't hold your skin down, then the skin will be pulled up with the hair, making the removal process more painful because it takes that much longer for the root to pass through the skin. By holding the skin down, the root just pops right out quickly and with less pain.
Doing little taps at first will take more time to cover a large area. But after a few times, when the pain is less, you'll be able to stroke the epilator across your skin in longer sweeps without having to tap, and you'll get the job done faster.
Remember that the more a hair is plucked the easier and less painful it gets. And men, try this on your face so your sweetheart can have a nice smooth face to kiss. But only if you know for sure you won't be growing a beard or mustache later, since plucking can kill some hairs, leaving you with bald patches if you try to grow a beard afterward.
The only downside I would say is that compared to the old machine I had, the on and off switch that also allows you to set the speed of the machine is quite difficult to operate using a single hand. So you have to use both hands after you're done with epilation to turn it off or switch to a different speed.
All in all, very pleased with the machine so far.
It's made in Germany like a lot of Braun products.
- It doesn't pull all the hair in one go so i'll have to make a couple passes.
- The size of the area that pulls the hair is a little small for my liking as I use it for larger areas of my body like legs and arms, but it's not a big deal for me because I have smaller arms and legs.
- It has a light as well that will light the area you are epilating but it's a little blinding for me. I usually epilate in the bathroom with the lights on, so I don't need extra light and because that light is really bright, I have a hard time seeing where I missed after I pass it. I wish there was an option to turn the light off. The idea was good, maybe some people need the extra light to see, but for me it's too much. My solution for this was to just put a bandage or some kind of opaque tape over the light. Doesn't look pretty but its only me looking at it so I'm ok with it.
The epilator itself still does what it's supposed to do and it does it fairly well for the most part. I still prefer this epilator over shaving so I'll continue to use this.
