Because of COVID, I only used it for about 8 months but I still used it daily and it has exceeded my expectations.
The size is great for traveling since it is lightweight and compacts down to about a liter sized water bottle. It is very easy to inflate and deflate as it tells you which side the flap thing is up. Less than a minute blow up time and even when you have it blown up for several months, the creases are still there upon deflation to guide you to fold it up properly to fit in its pouch. Just fold it in half twice length wise, then roll from the bottom to the top.
I’m most impressed with the comfort of this. I am a side and stomach sleeper and when you sleep on the ground on your side you need a lot of support. Whether I was laying in my side or on my stomach I did not really touch the ground much. I actually deflated it just a little from fully inflated because I needed it to be more squishy!!
***Keep in mind I am on the smaller size (5’2” 110lbs) so I can’t speak for larger folks
You’d think that after 8 months of use there would be some holes or punctures, and I was honestly expecting to have to use the patch kit, but I didn’t need it. There are no holes at all and it doesn’t deflate overnight. Inflate once and you’re done. But even if you do have a puncture it comes with an easy to read patch kit and it’s in a smaller pouch inside the larger pouch that hold it so you don’t lose it!
Overall very satisfied with this product. So much so that this is the only review I’ve ever written for a product!
But, overall, this guy saved my life with my camping trip!
Originally I had a thermarest and while that one was technically more compact, easier to blow up and take down, and lighter weight than the static V, it only was 3/4ths size where as this one easily covered my whole 5'3" body from head to toe comfortably. It takes some effort to blow up, but you won't be blue in the face when you're done either. Also, the thermarest is great for hammock camping, but this guy turned out to be wayyy more versatile. Overnight layover in the airport? Just pump this guy up and voila, a comfortable place to sleep right on the floor while you wait for your flight to not suck anymore. It made last minute camping on the ground not awful, and I got decent sleep if you can believe that in an airport of all places. In a tent? The thermarest left my hips and shoulder (as a side sleeper) feeling sore and awful the next morning.. Slept totally fine on this guy though the following night (brought both and tested them out each night). Also, the thermarest left my feet fairly cold since they were on the ground directly, this is a full length.
If you're a glamper and want the rolls royce of pads, I would go with the Exped 10 mat.. it is comfortable as a dream (it was better than my ikea mattress at home!), good enough to use in a longer term camping situation (like crashing at a place for a couple weeks, guests staying overnight, etc.) and folds up muuuch lighter and smaller than those old school bulky air mattresses that you can find a dollar a dozen and always have holes in them.... But! That thing is not portable for backpacking. For the price, this guy will fold up super small, and will go anywhere. Stuffs easily into luggage or backpacks for a quick overnight stay. I definitely found more uses for this than just hammock camping. No real cons to this, I would definitely buy this again.
Thermarest does make a small, compact device for blowing up larger air mattresses without all the lung effort, so if you're the type that gets lightheaded easily spend the $25 bucks getting one of those for this.. but I'm a small person and I didn't have much issue blowing it up, taking a break, and coming back to do the rest a minute later. Seriously, for $50, this guy does it all. It does not seem as durable as a thermarest, and that's a slight downside, but hammocks are not rough on pads at all so I'm not worried about that, and it did not get ruined when I was cramming my backpack FULL to the brim and cinching it down super tightly with stuff.
